Question, if our life is in danger, are we allowed to defend ourselves? confusing

Yes we can and don’t listen to anyone who says you can’t. We have orthodox saints who’ve defended themselves and orthodox soldier saints.

This is a good question for a priest (like Fr. Mousa!), but as I have generally understood from holy people, the teachings of the saints, and the teachings of the Lord Himself, context is very important. The best thing I have been taught to do is pray for illumination from God what to do in any given situation because He knows the best answer, and we should try to follow his guidance in our lives. However, a general rule of thumb I have heard is that if you are defending someone else, or if your death will cause some one else suffering (let's say I have a family) then it may be best to fight someone for the sake of others out of love. There are definitely cases of Orthodox saints (who were filled with love for all men!) that fought for the sake of love of their brothers.
I think that it is important to understand here that Fr. Mousa is not advocating for us to be a pushover, rather that our motives should always be out of love for everyone, in all circumstances.
Again, in general, in any given situation where one may be at a loss at what to say or what to do, I have been told by holy people that we should simply ask God to illumine us with the right answer in our heart. God does not make mistakes :)
      God bless you!

"Bless those who persecute you" (for the Faith is implied here)... This does not apply to children standing up to the schoolyard bully, for children do not understand what turn the other cheek means. How is it good parenting to have your child terrified of going to school? And which priest will not fight to the death to protect his household from a home invader?

what Saints teach what you're saying and how is sending your kids to school profitable for their salvation?

@@seraphim3r It is you and this priest who should tell us where self-defence is a sin for children or a man defending wife and children from an assailant. Furthermore, the "schoolyard bully' is not limited to school. But let us not pretend as if all households can home-school their children "for their salvation".
