  • Want to truly challenge your DND party? In this video guide, we discuss the DM's perspective on TPKs and why, sometimes, it's okay to let someone else do the dirty work.
    TPKs (Total Party Kills) can be a scary and controversial topic in the TTRPG community, but they can also make for some epic storytelling. In this video, we'll share our GM advice on inviting someone else to assume the role of an evil player character set on a TPK.

    Could you go over the individual battle master maneuvers? And I know you kind of already did in your sorcerers are broken, but could do the same with metamagic

      I may circle back to do that once I’ve finished the guide for barbarian but we are also nearing the end of 5e so I might be moving on to the next edition whenever that comes!

    Fantastic video mate. I think it goes to show your players are a fantastic resource when playing D&D. It also makes things more unexpected as a DM so its way more fun running the game

    When i run combat that is difficult. My players will take over 20 minutes deciding what to do unless i put a timer down

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  5 місяців тому

      Fair point! It probably does help that we run on a stream and I put a strong emphasis on them making decisions more quickly to keep things moving. I do also enjoy reminding them of who is “on deck” during each round of combat so the next person can prepare!

    I have never seen players happy to see and cheer on rust monsters.
    You missed the most important minor detail. The party was so close to TPK that everyone in the chat used every Chaos point we had over two weeks. Hold on you did tell the people seeing this they could *see the actual play sessions on this channel and gave them a link to exactly were to see it*
    Right?
    ((FYI is you kept reading - this was never an issue for me in 1E and 2E cause hey characters took dirt retirements all the time. File this under 5E DM styles.))

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  5 місяців тому +1

      Hahaha yep! I linked a bunch of the live sessions but I wanted to keep the video mostly applicable to those who watch it. I ALMOST spoiled the ending with that super hype moment from chat but they’ll have to watch the stream for that one!
      Also, you nailed it! A few of my upcoming videos will address the lack of… umph that encounters have in 5e and how to up the stakes!

    WHY YOU LET HIM BE THE BAD GUY!!!

  • @nealbutler3332
    @nealbutler3332 5 місяців тому +2

    I don’t kill the players the dice do. The monsters do. Their bad decisions do. The DM isn’t “god” as some believe. The DM represents the cold unfeeling force of nature. They implement the rules, narrate the story, and operate the NPCs. They are not the one swinging the ax. They are the one telling you that it hits.

    my question is how to deal with a player cause tpk cause I was running a wild west campaign and one of the player forgot their cart was full of dynamite and threw a stick of dynamite at a bandit up on a cliff it nat 1 and rolled back down to the cart. the entire party was surounding. (actualy now I'm not sure if that one was player caused or the dice gods did not like them that day it was their 7th nat 1 that session and they were rolling poorly that night.)

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  5 місяців тому

      I’d say there are a few ways to solve that problem! Most importantly, YOU decide what happens on a nat 1! Maybe the dynamite doesn’t make it but, instead of rolling back down, it explodes early and causes shrapnel to pelt them for some damage (if that’s what you’re looking for). Alternatively, you could offer a Dec save against being hit by the exploding dynamite pack so not everyone is dead!

    • @sethteamcrashgaming1770
      @sethteamcrashgaming1770 5 місяців тому +1

      @@ConstructedChaos well I thought that on the save but nobody was playing a rouge and well there was a lot of dynamite they were trying to take it to an abandoned gold mine one of the players won a map to in a game of poker hoping to strike it rich

    • @ConstructedChaos
      @ConstructedChaos  5 місяців тому

      @@sethteamcrashgaming1770 characters can still make a dex save without being a rogue! If it was that much damage, they can even save and take no damage! Maybe the dynamite didn’t combust instantly and there was time to get away from the bag before it did. Just because most dex saves are against half damage doesn’t mean that’s the rule! 😊
