Great band! and would have been nice to be there for the show, so i didn't have to watch a video taken with a cheap cell phone with a terrible mic. But,... I like the band enough to sit through the poor audio,...
They use to play such wonderful bluegrass music as the Lovell Sisters. They are becoming their uncle as mad hatters.
So....because they are progressing as musicians and trying new things...that makes them "mad"? Or somehow not as good? (Is that what you're inferring?....if not then I misunderstood...but I hope that's not what you meant...and yes I know the reference to their Uncle being Mad) I have seen them 5 times...when they were the Lovell Sisters....as well as when they first came out as Larkin Poe....and I just saw them again last night here in Atlanta....and I can tell you that their shows have only gotten better and better. Any true musician who is worth a damn changes and progresses.....which is part of what makes them great. They are versatile. As a professional guitarist myself...I can tell you there is nothing worse than being pigeonholed and being expected to play only one style of music over and over and over...it is completely stifling as a player and it sucks all of the life right out of the music. I love all the old Americana/Bluegrass stuff too....but they are going into some exciting new areas with their material and they are growing tremendously...... if you have written them off because they are no longer simply playing bluegrass.....I highly suggest you go see them live again soon. They have never been anything less than brilliant. Not trying to be a jerk here at all....but do yourself a favor and go see them live again and see what they are doing.....I cannot imagine in a million years that you will be disappointed with the show. Cheers.
Other sister jess called it quits in 2010 or some while before this show. Kinda hard to do bluegrass with just 2. Gotta have the fiddle, picking and rythm, on steel guitar, usually at least, as well as percussion- sometimes drums, often bass fidler in bluegrass. But they do got some mad vocal and slide guitar chops!!
heather bedor the older sister didn't like being on road so much so she settled down to concentrate on family Rebecca and Megan wanted to explore more on blues and rock they renamed the group Larkin Poe after their great great grandfather and been making all these great videos and recording their own material since.. Jess does make appearances with her sisters on occasion
