  • A review of one of the most classic rpgs ever made! No wonder the game is getting a remake! Enjoy the review!
This video was originally made in 2019, however I never uploaded it. However with the reveal of the DQ3 remake I felt motivated enough to put this online.

The hardest thing but most rewarding is starting off with three goof-offs and getting them to level 20 and making them sages.

Actually, there is a caveat to the Switch version of Dragon Quest III: it's missing content, and besides the update to 16:9 there are no improvements to it over the Super Famicom version. It doesn't even have all the content from the Super Famicom version that the mobile version, and in turn, Switch version are based on. The board game suguroku (previously translated in the GBC version as Parchisi and relocalized in DQ5 DS as Treasures'N'Trapdoors) is missing from the mobile and Switch versions of the game. What's more, the GBC added a collectable known as Monster Medals that unlock a second bonus dungeon that is also missing from the latest release.
The only complete version of DQ3 is the GameBoy Color version of the game, which is unfortunate as it is the least visually impressive version. Hopefully the HD-2D remake includes all the content present in the GBC version.

If DQ4 is ever brought to Switch, I'd enjoy seeing what you think of it. :) It sounds like you never experienced the originals on NES. The NES version of DQ3 was my first RPG ever, and DQ4 was my favorite NES RPG. It's nice to hear that you enjoy these games so many years after their original release.
Although only the first 3 remakes are on Switch so far, the mobile ports of the remakes are surprisingly good. I'm going to start streaming the mobile version of DQ3 on Twitch tomorrow, actually!

Dude. "The enemy are defeated" isnt bad grammar. Enemy works as plural.

That's right. "The enemies are defeated" and "The enemy are defeated" are both correct. The first is preferred in North America, the second in British English.

Nice review. The more exposure DQ3 gets, the better.

DQ3 is legendary. And the new remake has the art style which is perfect.

This is my second favorite game in the series narrowly beaten by IV. This is where the series became great IMO. I hated the first game when I was younger and why I don't dislike it as much now I still consider the first game the franchise low point and while I definitely think II is better thsn I its my second least favorite game in the series while this is a massive improvement over both

I don't mean to be "that guy", but you really could have done a lot more research with this one. DQ4 you can also chose a boy or girl hero. DQ 4 is where mini-medals were introduced. A lot of what they use in every remake of this game is from the Japanese-only Super Nintendo version of the game and the Game Boy Color version.

You could play as male or female in DQ4 as well.

I like to consider DQ3 as 2 games in 1: one for the male protagonist, and the other for the female. The differences are minimal, sure, but given the fact the choice is goven at the beginning it's cool you can choose the version of the game you prefer to play.

All out-of-battle tiles and sprites are pulled straight from the Super Famicom version of the game. Battle backgrounds and animations are upscaled and/or traced from their respective SFC versions. Monster sprites are the cheap clipart-style images often used in DQ promotional material. Many of them are fine, but Slimes tend to look off (pretty bad for the series mascot) and many of them are censored (for example, Putrefido is missing some gore present in the original sprite).

I stopped playing this due to the HD2D one coming out, but I may get back to it. I’ve been told the Switch version isn’t the best version and the Gameboy Color ver is the best.

No, DQ4,9, and 10 allow you to play as either sex as well. Dragon Quest Monsters 2 stars a boy or girl depending on which version you buy: Tara's Adventure or Cobi's Journey (or which character you select in the unified remake).

"The first few hours are incredibly difficult"
Really? Did you and I play the same game? I have no problem early on. As long as you earn enough money to buy some decent equipment for everyone, you shouldn't have a problem.
