The Tiger will always escape if there is a chance BUT a pressed Tiger that has to fight until death have the upper hand in strength and size, and the tiger is way more aggressive. A solo Lion doesn't have the same pride as when it is protecting it's pack.
Take a Mainland Bengal Tiger Vs Solo African Lion, or a Siberian Tiger to make it even funnier. Why I said "not in nature" is because Tigers in captivity are weak and fragile, The Lions fighting instinct is much much stronger.
