I generally prefer to rent a bike from a good bike shop wherever I go. Not having to deal with packing the bike and worrying about damage to it outweighs bringing my own. I have a few go-to bikes I like to rent that are almost always great for all mountain riding.

I agree... nothing like showing up and just riding! Although I always wish I had my own bike most of the time.
