Firebox Fry Pan Seasoning Instructions. Works For Cast Iron Pans As Well
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 лют 2019
- Seasoning Instructions:
1- remove the sticky dot.
Warm up your pan, then slowly pull. If your pan is warm enough and you pull slowly enough, it should come off cleanly in one piece.
2- wash your pan with soap and hot water. Towel dry.
3- place pan or pans in the oven and preheat to 500 degrees Fahrenheit. This will burn off the food grade silicone sealant which was applied to the pan at the factory.
4- when your oven and pan has reached 500 degrees Fahrenheit, remove your pan and carefully (use tongs to hold a crumpled paper towel) apply the first coat of oil. Food grade non Lignan flax oil is best (generally found at health food stores) however, any food grade fat will work (most people use canola or vegetable oil). Spread it on liberally with a saturated paper towel, then wipe it back off with a dry paper towel. Wipe off all the wet, shiny oil until you're left with a mostly dry looking satin finish. (This will smoke quite a bit so turn on your vent fan and or open the windows)
5- place your pan in the 500f oven for 30 minutes, then take it out, (look closely at the seasoning layer and you will see a pattern. Most oils bead up into dots. Flax oil lays flat in a bark like pattern) apply another coat of oil using the same wipe on, wipe off technique previously described. Repeat for at least three coats. The more coats the better, I wouldn't do more than six. This builds a polymer layer
6- Let the final coat, cook for a full hour at 500f. This hardens and strengthens your polymer layer
Seasoning continues with use, I recommend using a no stick canola cooking spray until your seasoning has fully developed.
No stick sprays contain lecithin, which helps the oil get deep into the pores. It also Burns easily so I recommend spraying it on then wiping it back off (to avoid a burnt popcorn flavor) prior to adding your preferred cooking oil or fat. When you're finished cooking, wipe your pan of excess oil and bring the heat up until it starts to smoke at which point turn off the heat and allow to cool slowly.
Use instructions:
Contrary to popular belief, your season layer can be scratched so avoid abrasive scrubbers and use non scratching utensils. The good news is that scratches aren't the end of the world small scratches get filled in with newly polymerized oils with use.
Firebox Pans conduct heat extremely well, so you'll notice that less heat is needed so start low and work your way up slowly until you get a feel for the improved cooking performance.
Don't walk away when preheating, these pans heat up fast so don't risk overheating an empty pan.
Firebox Fry Pans are special in the fact that its cooking surface is hard anodized rather than being non stick coated. The hard anodizing process transforms the surface layer into a highly conductive ceramic which has a micro structure that accepts a seasoning. Yes, like cast iron but better. Not only are the Firebox Pans much lighter they also handles better. The Firebox Fry Pan's a heat conductivity is way up around 237 where cast iron is only about 52. Your Firebox Fry Pan will respond quickly to temperature changes and will heat evenly. Cast iron is slow to heat, slow to cool and can develop hot spots. It's kinda like the difference between driving a big truck VS a sports car.
Got mine in the mail today and I just finished seasoning it. I’m leaving for an overnighter in the morning. Thanks for the great products and knowledge you’ve given to this hobby.
My pleasure! I hope you have a great time!
I received my stoves yesterday they are so beautiful the pictures don’t do them justice! The packaging and presentation of the stoves are over the top. Thank you cannot wait to start using them.
Thank you, we appreciate the kind words. I am glad you received your items and can start using them!
I also just received my FIrebox frypan yesterday. I was impressed by how sturdy the pan feels and its looks. Also ordered the short and the long handle. Once I get use to car camp cooking, I’ll order your FIrebox wood stove. You now have a new fan of your products. Thanks.
Thank you for the support, I really appreciate that. Glad that you are enjoying your products!
I got the large and the small kit last week, seasoned them this weekend as instructed and made some eggs in them (how could I not after watching Steve do it 100X!) and they worked perfectly cant wait to use them in the wild!
Nice! I'm liking my sets more and more with use. So far they just seem to get better and better 👍😎
Love it Steven!!! Look forward to seeing you soon!
Thanks Dylan! I'm sure we'll have a good time then!
Great, thank you, I have seen a lot of videos about the initial use of cast iron pots. The principle of this method is basically the same as what you introduced. I have subscribed to your channel for a long time and this is the first video about an aluminum frying pan. thank you very much!👍. I wish you and your children happy!
Thank you for watching, I appreciate your comment. Glad you enjoyed the video!!
Seasoning my 10in. frypan and Cowboy plate in the oven as I watch this! Taking them backpacking to The Bob in 3wks. Looking fwd to wringing them out on some Sun River trout!
Sounds awesome I have hope you have a great fishing and delicious dinners!
You've got that pan looking really good.
A real work of art! Thanks!
As always very informative video. You are one of the few who explain with ease. Thank you .
Thank you! Comments like this make the effort well worth while.
Thanks for the tip
I recieved my Nano, in the mail, last week. Such an amazing little stove. Now, you've got my attention set on your small pan, cook kit. Damnit...
Wishing the best for you and your family, Steve.
That is awesome, I hope you get many chances to get out and use it! You will love the cook kits, they just are so versatile. Thank you for the well wishes, I wish the same for you and your family. Cheers my friend!
Nicely done ! Gotta love it !
Thank you Craig!! I appreciate your videos as well!!
Thanks so much for the video!!
My pleasure! Thank you for your support!
My new pans just arrived! Thx Steve looks like a nice set up can't wait to try them.
That is great to hear, thank you for the feedback. You will have to let me know how your first few times cooking in it all works. Thanks for watching!!
Just ordered my fry pan yesterday! Pretty excited about it! Just watching for it to ship! 😁
That is awesome, you will have to let me know what you think when you receive it. We will email you a tracking number when it ships and thank you for the support!
It came today! So excited! Do I season just the cooking surface on the inside or the whole thing like cast iron?
Hello Steve! I just placed a order for some items from your shop. Your representative that helped me was great! The guy from Ohio
I've never seen anybody prepare for the outdoors as well as you, especially the food. I look forward to purchasing the Firebox. I wouldn't have to make a big fire - gotta be mindful of mother earth.
Camp cooking is a big part of the fun for me!
As always Steve really good information thank you. now let's hope that the crazed how to season a fry pan community does not get going on this. There are so many ways that people do this I say do what works and that's what you did. Thanks again Steve
Yes I agree there! Trying to offer clarification that is helpful so hopefully it is taken as that. Thanks for watching Michigan Hiker!!
Thanks for the update. I received my order a 2 or 3 weeks ago but haven’t had tome to use them yet. Maybe this weekend I’ll start the seasoning process. Now I have to 10” and 12” set. One for lighter solo stuff and the other to splurge.
That is awesome! You will have to let me know how it goes. I think you will thoroughly enjoy it. Thank you for the support, I appreciate that.
I love my new firebox pan as with everything else that firebox has, looking forward to what you come up with next......
Thank you Ben, I appreciate the support! I am glad you are enjoying the products, great to hear.
I want to apologize mate. I've been watching your videos for a while now and just realized I haven't subscribed yet! I smacked that button real quick. Very detailed video which is what i like. Keep em coming
Thank you for the sub and support, I appreciate it. Lol thanks for watching!
Love your work bro!
Thank you, I appreciate that!
lovely!
Thank you for watching!
Oh, the instructions are out! I'm holding my breath for the Kickstarter shipment to arrive any day now 😄 Meanwhile I'm out trying to source the spray. Thx Steve for those experiments - a hardened Lecithin layer may indeed work very well.
Remember, I only demonstrated what to do after the initial seasoning process which is outlined in the description of this video.
watching u frying egg.. just egg... is enough to make my day.. 😘😘
Lol! Thanks!
Just bought a 10inch pan kit and also added the shallow dish, can't wait to check it out down here in Australia, going to get my moneys worth out of it, cheers mate
That is great to hear, let us know what you think when you get to try it out. Thanks for watching and Cheers to you as well!
Cool, lookin forward to my new kit from your kickstarter!
Thanks Phil!
I love your products. So ingenious but common sense really. Just goes to show hoe great American made products really are. I cant wait to get some money together to purchase a whole slew of them! I will be recommending them to others and doing my own review of them when I get my hands on them. Great work! Love the videos.
DigIntoEverything….Like that handle - I resemble that! Cast Iron fan here. I season my cast iron or touch them up in the propane bbq while waiting for it to come up to cook temp. Keep the smoke outside. Just a thought. Like that pan, Firebox.
Thank you! I look forward to seeing your videos!
That's a great idea! They do fill the house with smoke!
My review
Having watched and read about this cook kit I decided I needed one.
Have owned the 10" frying pan cowboy plate and thinner plate for about 3 wks.
Followed the instructions and tried an egg..(stuck)
Seasoned it another 15 times on the hob..set the fire alarm off twice lol.
Now been using it near everyday indoors .. couple of times outside.
Works great . Not as non stick as teflon but who wants that nowadays.
Used the pan to cook over 15 dishes and love it..can even put it in the oven.
Would of liked the bag , but it's so expensive her in the UK..
Would also like the pizza stone but that isn't available also here..
So stick with it guys it will become non stick in time..the bottom inside becomes near black in colour..
I'm happy with my purchase.
cost £72 for the 3 pans .
Thank you Steve 👍🏽
Thank you Scott I really appreciate your feedback 😎
I need one of these in my life!
Doesn't everyone?
A Firebox Steve or one of his cook sets?
Very, very happy with my 10” set. I followed seasoning instructions very carefully with just normal vegetable oil. Next morning I got my sunny side up skating on the pan! Wife did complained tho about the smells and energy bill for hours of seasoning in the oven at 250c. Doesn’t feels like the need to use a non stick spray at all, but I will see how it’s goes after keep using more. Cheers.
Thanks for your feedback 👍
I dont really prefer eating sunny side up eggs but for some reason I love watching them cook!
That is interesting, I am glad that I could help you out there! Lol thanks for watching!
Just ordered my pan set in the UK. I'm like a kid a xmas can't wait till it arrives 🤤🤤🤤
That is great to hear, let me know how your first time cooking on it goes. Thanks for the support!
@@fireboxstove had a fun time seasoning it this afternoon and cooked my first egg with the nano as the fire source. Its a thing of beauty
New to your channel. Love your videos. So do my kiddos. Plan on ordering some of your products. My wife wants the coffee kit
Thank you, I am glad you are all enjoying it. The coffee kit is amazing, best part of camping. Thanks for watching!
The best way to keep food from sticking and simultaneously develop a good seasoning, is to heat the pan dry until it is hot, then add *cold* oil to the hot pan. This works because the pores of the metal open when the pan is hot and empty, then, when the cold oil hits it, the pores contract and grab the oil, this fills the pores up with oil making a smooth seasoned surface and making it non stick. The hot pores of the pan contracting around the cold oil is the exact same reason food sticks, the expanded pores contract when in contact with cold food, thus grabbing the food and making it stick. This effect happens less when the pores are already filled with oil. An additional thing to do is season the oil with salt before placing the food in there, the salt acts like ball bearings, reducing sticking and making everything taste good, win win. Adding cold oil, to a cold pan then heating them both together is less effective at preventing sticking because the pores of the metal have not contracted around the oil, so when you add cold food, the pores contract and grab the food even with oil in the mix.
Thank you for the comment, that is great!
I also notice that heating the pan up, removing from heat and adding butter till its melted (not burning) helps as well. Once back on the heat I believe the water in the butter creates a temporary layer of hot gas for eggs not to stick until they quickly set.
Man, I can't wait to get my ultra cook kit and firebox stove! Both looks absolutely amazing! (I am a european, so I rarely use such a strong words like "absolutely amazing")
Nice! Thank you very much Jan, I hope you get a lot of spare time to enjoy your new Firebox gear!
Cool vid man 👌🏼
Thank you, I appreciate that!
Cool man , I live out here in Hawaii bro , born and raised , can’t really do much but spearfish catch and cook , but idk if I wanna start yet lol
I like the notion of being able to use/treat it like I do my cast iron, but, with the weight savings for hauling it around out of doors.
For stainless steel, get it good and hot, rub some coconut oil/wipe off (a few times). When hot, a drop of water begins to dance on the surface like mercury does on a smooth surface.
Thanks!
Seasoned my small kit 5 times over in my oven, both the frying pan and the dutch lid. Worked great. I have always used some kind of lid over my frying pans when preparing a steak outdoors, as I like it well done and also like to conserve fuel when using a alcohol burner, liquid fuel- or canister stove. Been using a tin plate for that. This kit provides more room under the dutch lid, so I can add more vegetables and stuff I'd like to just simmer on top of the steak when it is close to done. Using the dutch lid also help conserving fuel. Love it! Btw; I only used olive oil and coconut oil (alternated) for the seasoning, no spray.
Nice! Good work!
Good instructions on seasoning pans. I get in trouble with my wife though when I bring the heat up to smoke. She's not allowed near my cast iron though.
LOL! Thanks Dave!
Good
I just bought your large pan. I wish you had made a few more videos with this pan. Mostly you use the GSI non stick pan.
That's because you're watching videos from before I had my new pans. I haven't used no stick pans since I've had these.
WELP, MY BEAUTIFUL PAN COLLECTION IS STREAKY & DARK IN SOME SPOTS AND SPOTTY IN OTHERS, LOOKS NOTHING LIKE STEVES NICE DARK PAN. WAH, WAH, WAHHHH. MY CAST IRON LOOKS GREAT!
Hi Pamela, if you shoot us a quick email to info@fireboxstove.com we can gladly help you out with this.
Then you season it with a good meal... Bon appetite! ;P
Thank you!
Hey Steve finished my initial seasoning in the oven and it turned out great. Now just got to have some cooking time with it. Once you started cooking with yoursb about how long did it take yours to become non stick?
That is really hard to say exactly on a time frame. We are glad that you have the seasoning done and it worked great. Getting out and using it will make it better and better.
Funny, my home pans are basically treated like that, but never thought about doing that with camping stuff. I suppose that's partly because I use camp stuff way less than my home pans.
Do you tend to use these pans at home as well? I’m in love with my cast iron but there seems to be a lot of obvious benefits to these pans... just curious, and I love the videos!
Yes, I use them quite a bit at home. Not ideal for home use because they don't have a permanent handle but I like mine enough that it's what I use for making my egg sandwiches for lunch.
👍💯🍀
Thanks!
Just picked up my order with the small skillet. New to seasoning. Doing it now as the instructions from Firebox that came along.
1. Handwash cleaned with soap and lukewarm water.
2. Dried it with soft towel.
3. Put it 30 minutes on 250 C in oven
4. Went to supermarket to buy canola oil (I had only walnut oil, sunflower and extra virgin olive oil and canola seemed better after some research).
5. Made the layer with canola oil and dried it with paper
6. Skillet is upside down in the oven now for 1 hr on 250 C (max for my microwave oven)
7. Waiting now..
Edit:
8. Took it out and let it cool down.
9. Put the oil again and put the skillet on my stove untill I saw the smoke. Repeated this quite a few times.
10. Decided to throw an egg in. Big mistake. It's a skillet and not my regular frying pan. Not enough oil and the pan was way to hot so it stickes awfully and thought I messed up my new skillet. Cleaned it.
11. Tried again. Failed again another egg.
12. More oil. Less heat. Now it went fine!
Not sure if what I did was right but I'm ready to use it on my next adventure.
I admire your tenacity! Good job!
Sorry if this is a silly question, but the Camp Plate, Cowboy Plate, and Frypan are all the same hard anodized aluminum, right? Are these seasoning steps recommended for all of them?
Just got my Kickstarter order today! Was bummed I didn’t find a Firebox sticker, but was pumped to find a Firebox patch! Bonus! Super excited to try out my new gear! Thanks for creating such high quality products!
Not a silly question at all. Yes they are all hard anodized. You only need to season them if you plan on cooking in them. You can cook in the pie tins but most people don't, they will just use it for a lid to bake in.
I am glad you got the patch! Thank you for the kind words, I appreciate that. I hope you have many great times and memories with the gear. Cheers!
Ah, I see! That makes sense! Thanks for the reply!
Firebox patch!! I need one of these to put on my pack 😁👍
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
Hey Steve. Thanks for all these amazing videos and products. I have one question. You said it's a two step process. One in the oven and two seasoning as you cook. What's the oven process? I didn't know I had to season it in the oven and I just bought a cook kit and don't want to use it until I know how I am supposed to care for it. Please can you advise? Thanks
When I say two step process what I mean is that you need to go through the process of applying light coats of oil then cooking that oil to a temperature which causes polymerization then repeat several times the second part of the process is actually using your pan which is continually building the seasoning layer 👍😎 the pans also come with detailed instructions.
@@fireboxstove Awesome. Thanks for taking the time to clarify that. Happy New year and all the best for 2022👍
Great video, nice looking egg. Great looking pan. I have a Trangia 27-8... do the pans fit?
Interested in one that fits.
Thank you for watching, I appreciate that. I am not sure if they fit exactly, have never tried it before.
Pans and Skillet lid that comes with the 27-8 will fit just fine on the Firebox stove, you will have to use the tabs on the 27-8 in the flipped up position to use Steves new pans on it ,if that is what you are asking.
@@RobertPerk1... Thank you, looking at Steve's pans for the Trangia stove.
What’s you favorite alcohol to burn? I’ve watched the comparison video you have. I used the 91% isopropyl alcohol. It was soot city(it wipes right off)… but what is the one you like to use over the other.
I generally use denatured alcohol from the hardware store 👍😎
Hello. I am seasoning my new pan for the first time. Do I put oil just on the inside or on the outside/bottom also? Thank you so much. I love my Firebox stove.
You only need to season the inside. Thank you for your support!! 😁
@@fireboxstove Thank you for responding! I just seasoned them both, and there are some spots in the pans that are like dark little bubbles. I used some Pam spray for the lecithin and avocado oil. I must have done something wrong. Maybe it's because my oven goes a little above 500°and I had to adjust the temp. I'm not worried though and am hoping it will clear up as I use it and season it again.
Firebox is the best! Can hardly wait to use the billy pot oven.
So I’m new at this camping/backpacking thing. I spent a few years in the Marines and got used to eating MREs so I never had to worry about keeping food.
When you go out, how do you keep your food fresh until you’re ready to cook. I don’t have the funds for a yeti and I plan on being gone for a few days. Do you have any tips so I don’t end up getting sick on my trip?
I usually freeze everything I can and then wrap it in my winter gear for insulation. It works great and I use it before it goes bad, it does really well actually. I hope you can get out there and enjoy your time camping, it is a great stress relief. Thanks for watching!
biutyfull
Thank you for watching!
Can those can burners be used in a closed environment? My home is total electric and I need a safe way to be able to cook indoors if the power goes out in the winter.
The stoves were made to be used outdoors only and we would not recommend them being used indoors at all.
I just got my ultra kit yesterday. Is the instruction that came with it, the updated one? Or follow the instructions in this video? thanks in advance!
You will want to use the instructions it came with and these instructions are more for upkeep on the pans. Let us know if you have any questions, happy to help!
I followed the instructions to season my new 10" firebox pans. The pans now have a very mottled coating, which feels slightly rubbery. Should I just continue using the pans with the non stick cooking spray?
If the finish is sticky you need a hotter temperature. Either way using no stick spray for a while will probably be best.
@@fireboxstove Thanks, I've picked up some of those non stick sprays. Pan is starting to look good after a couple of uses!
Steve great video I seasoned my firebox pan in the oven with canola oil should I season the pan ever time I use it or after I finish cooking thanks
Simply using it will be adding to the seasoning but wiping it out and heating it up after use will season it that much more.
Also, you'll notice these updated instructions call for a much higher temperature. I've found that makes a very big difference in the hardness of yours seasoning layer
I believe the instructions said 400 for 45 minutes
Thank you for getting back to me so fast wow 5 minutes. I love the firebox products best of luck with your company I’m looking forward to some more new products from firebox
Thank you so much for the support, I appreciate it. Happy to help!
Did you season the deep and shallow pan as well?
You can if you plan to cook out of them but it is not necessary if you are not planning on it.
so is the no stick spray only for the first time ?
The instructions for seasoning are in the description of this video. I only demonstrated what to do after you have completed the initial seasoning instructions
I tried seasoning several times in oven and some more with just cooking oil in the gas burner at home. I still have my eggs sticking. Will Pam do the trick? Or I need more seasoning. It will be nice if the pans come pre-seasoned haha
You can email us at info@fireboxstove.com and we can help you with this and further instructions for seasoning. Happy to help you out!
@@fireboxstove ok
How are the Firbox pans different from the GSI bugaboos you previously used?? Thanks Steve, keep on cooking!!
They do not have a non-stick coating. They need to be seasoned like a cast iron pan.
Firebox Stove awww ok thank you they look like they have a coating prior to seasoning. I'll have to pick up an 8" to use on solo trips with the Nano!!
I followed instructions that came on pan. I didn’t bake off the nonstick stuff at 500. Just put it in with canola and baked at 400 for 40 minutes. I didn’t get great results honestly. What is the best course to get back on track in your opinion? The baked on canola is no longer visible on the bottom of the pan but nearly impossible to remove along the sides.
If it were me I would just start again using the new instructions. The stuff on the sides won't affect the performance. The seasoning will just be a little thicker in those spots. If it is something that you're not happy with please feel free to contact our customer support and we'll take care of you.
I’ll give that a go. If I have problems I’ll contact customer support like you suggest. Thanks for the info!
I noticed the instructions that came with the pan advise to bake at 500 for an hour rather than half hour as indicated here and on the product page online. Which is better in your experience? Thanks!
The hour for the first seasoning and then the half hour for maintenance seasoning when needed. Thanks for watching!
I bought gen 2 firebox and teh extra grill plate warped altho i used it twice only, I only set the grillplate before grilling, and never under fire only under charcoal. How do i prevent this in the f uture?
It's a little like a fry pan on the stove needs to have food in it to regulate its temperature. If you keep food on it you should be good. If the temperature is hot enough to warp the grill plate you will definitely be burning your food.
My pan set arrived. Are there anyway to season them without oven? Thank you.
You can use anything that will get the temp up to over 500 degrees. Oven is the best though if you can. A grill would work though as well. Let me know if you need any other help. Cheers!
Hello! I got my kit today from company here in sweden.
What I dont get is from the the instructions is, should repeat step 5 - three times , before i continue with step 6?
sorry for my bad english.
Your English is great. You can find the instructions here: www.fireboxstove.com/Pots-Frypans?product_id=364 at the bottom of the page. If you need more help feel free to email us at info@fireboxstove.com. Thanks!!
Silly question. What kind of "cooking alcohol " do I get for that alcohol burner? I bought it from you guys but am not sure what to burn in it. Thanks ahead of time.
I use denatured alcohol but you can also get the yellow bottled h e e t from the gas station which is methanol
Thank you for the quick info.
Great product and presentation, Steve! What size skillet would work best for the firebox nano stove?
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. The small one is a 8" and works great with it but the large 10" works as well. It depends on the amount of people you are cooking for. I would say the 8" Frying Pan is for 1-2 people and no more than that. I hope that helps.
Steve does your company ship to Canada.
Every day👌👍😎
On the stove at home....simmer some oil till the pan turns golden yellow, a couple times.
Thank you for the input!
Hello! I received ultra cook kit last week. I tried pan seasoning but i failed. My pan is covered by food grounds. How can i wash it? I did wash several times but i didnt eliminate. Plz let me know how to wash without damaging pan cover coating.
If you get it just a little hotter the old seasoning will flake off. You can also use vinegar to soften the old seasoning. Personally I would just leave it how it is and keep seasoning it and keep using it. Everything will eventually work itself out.
😙
Instructions say when u first receive pan to heat pan to 500 degrees to remove factory coating and allow pan to take seasoning. Is that still applicable? Also, before you get to the stage in this video aren’t you supposed to season 3 times using something like BuzzyWaxx?
That is correct!
Wondering what alcohol are you using in the stove for this demo?
I use denatured alcohol. Thanks!
I just recived mine, I rly dont know what to do with it, should I follow the instructions that came with the pan or not?
The latest and greatest instructions for seasoning your pan are detailed in this videos description.
Reload this video. I noticed a typo. It's fixed now so if you reload the page you will get the corrected instructions
@@fireboxstove thanks!
Pans upside down in oven like cast iron?
Yes if you have enough oil that it will drip then you will need to turn it upside down but if not then you are fine to keep it upright. Thanks!
Great instructions Steve. Thank you. Not trying to be the pronunciation police but it is pronounced "LE-SI-THIN"
Thank you for the information, I was not sure on that. I am glad you enjoyed the video, I appreciate that.
What material is that pan? I’m guessing there isnt a nonstick coating on it since youre talking about seasoning?
Correct, it is hard anodized aluminum 👍
Firebox Stove how does that material stand with metal utensils or simply lasting over time? Any scratches or wear and tear over time? Also how does it compare to stainless steel? I like stainless frying pan for its durability, but it sticks like crazy and is hard to clean without a lot of water which I hate. From the video, it seems like the pan seasons pretty well and doesn’t stick a lot, but I’m curious about its durability over time.
Just recently I discovered that the thing with the little slidey flap on it was not meant to be used all the time. Game changer...apologies to all the peeps that had to wait much longer than they needed to...;)
I have thrown away my new firebox pan, because I was not able to get a smooth nonsticking surface. Bought a GSI nonstick teflon pan instead. I dont want to hassle around. Just cook something, clean it fast and easy and walk on.
Different things work better for different people and different situations. The non-stick pans are very convenient and easy however some people really appreciate the ability to season their pans and have very good success with it.
But you are right it does require an investment of time and a development of technique while the non-stick option is ready to go from the very beginning. I don't like knowing that a customer may be less than 100% satisfied please contact my customer service department so that we can work something out with you. Thank you very much for expressing your feedback 🙏
sir where can i buy a firebox im from the phillipines
You can order from our site here: www.fireboxstove.com/index.php?route=common/home. Thank you!
I was just gifted one of these by a good buddy of mine @grumpy grunt here on youtube. Im looking forward to using it
That's awesome! I hope you get lots of free time to enjoy it!
Why could you not do this seasoning of the pan on the gas stove for the initial seasoning? Just wondering!
There are lots of ways to season a pan it really doesn't matter how you get it hot. You just need to get it hot enough to polymerize the oil.
@@fireboxstove Cheers thanks for replying! So it's all about getting the pan hot enough one way or another I see now thanks.
So with these pans after you are done cooking do you have to bring your heat up to smoke point every time you cook with it? Also how long would you reccomend using the non stick spray? I know you said until seasoning has finish developing but how do you know when that is exactly? Thanks steve!
You don't have to bring it up to a smoke point every time, doing that just polymerizes more oil. Not doing just doesn't do that, it won't hurt anything though. Use the no-stick spray until you don't feel like you need it anymore. Hope that helps, thank you!
Got the kit yesterday. Followed the instructions, but end result was blotches of almost rust colored spots. I sent a msg. To fireboxstove asking for suggestions. Used virgin olive oil btw
If the color was fairly light your temperature is not hot enough. Being blotchy means you're leaving too much oil on the pan. Not to worry you can't ruin a seasoning job just keep doing it. I do recommend using multiple kinds of oils. You'll notice that each kind of oil you use behaves just a little bit differently. Same rule of thumb for all oils wipe it on then wipe it back off. Many very thin layers is better than less thicker layers. Increase the heat until the color becomes quite dark not quite black. I would recommend using a toaster oven and you can stack up your pans. I stack all my pans up all with a light coat of oil and put them in the toaster oven after each trip👍
@@fireboxstove thanks
Toaster oven is not an option. With oven I kept it at 500, so I don't think it was a matter of temperature.
I will retry using different oil and (less of it) will also reduce bake time to about 30 minute. I assume that ultimately, the pan should be black in color after fully seasoned?
Thanks again for your support
You bet. If you have any troubles you can also email us at info@fireboxstove.com and we can send you more tips and tricks there. Take care!
Don't you have a non stick version then?
Yes we do carry a non-stick Pinnacle Frying Pan here: www.fireboxstove.com/index.php?route=product/search&search=pinnacle. Thanks!

I like my eggs sunny side up please
LOL, thanks Tim!
Whats the sticky dot?
At one point we used a sticky dot to adhere the instructions to the inside of the pan but since it was difficult to remove we have now omitted it.
@@fireboxstove can we use soap on our pan? I followed instructions perfectly but when I cooked bacon it left residue on the pan. It still kinda stuck.
@@fireboxstove also. My pan isn’t getting black like yours. I followed instructions and have been cooking all my bacon on it to continue the season process. It’s still gray and the bacon sticks in places
How much for a custom pre - seasoned pan ?
🤙
Have not used my stove for ten years
Yes ... ten. 🤔
Time to get out there and use it!! Lol thanks for watching.
Wish I saw this before I ruined my set.. *please see edit that says I ruined the appearance (elbow grease and bar tender friend might bring it back), but the performance has been amazing. So I made an initial mistake assuming I messed up the pan.. But I did not for cooking

Followed seasoning instructions. 500 degrees is obviously too hot (I've only used cast iron and lots of success). Could not clean pans up to original. Never ruined a set of pans before I got to even see how they preformed. I guess Aluminum is not for me
I don't see anything ruined. I don't think it's even possible to ruin your pans. Just keep seasoning them. If 500 degrees seems too hot then do it at a lower temperature. Seasoning pans is not a science, more of an art. All ovens run a bit differently. If it's not for you send us an email to info at Firebox stove.com and we'll give you a refund.
I used it and the performance is great so actually I am very pleased because I can't maintain the appearance of aluminum. I seasoned it well I guess because I had a great first cook
I apologize. I won't delete me comment. As I obviously made a seasoning error. I did kill the perfect appearance of the plate and pan, but it also seems to be non stick as much as cast iron . I would love the opportunity to maintain a perfect set, but it works
@@fireboxstove yes, I over reacted. It performs awesome. I apologize. We all make mistakes
Alright . . . .Who are you and what did you do with Steve?!?
Steve always opens the spatula with a click on camera.
The geometrical shape of this product is pretty disturbing, it’s not perfectly squared.
That is how it folds flat without having to be taken apart. If it was perfectly square it would not be able to fold flat.

I very rarely use a new stove unless I know I'm not going to burn wood in it. You have to realize I have over 600 videos.
