The only thing is, with the glasses on, you don’t have color as a guide to finding pieces, only shading and texture. That would make it a lot harder, I would think

The “glasses” feature is really cool to allow you to try the puzzle in different ways! The peach drawing is a sea urchin! I’m pretty sure 😁

My parents purchased this puzzle for Christmas after my sister watched your video! We have now completed the puzzle 3 times together and have LOVED IT. We even got the assorted animal puzzle to add to our ocean one for more fun! We actually challenge ourselves instead of using the “glasses”, we use the led lights in my room to switch colors every 10-15 minutes. This allows the blue side to be clearer and useable as well

Now a three color puzzle with three different gradient-like dithering patterns overlaid, that would be crazy.

  • @awarose
    @awarose 4 роки тому +1

The human eye is more adapted to seeing in red and green light since sunlight is a lot of red and green. We have a hard time seeing in blue light, so that could explain why the blue glasses looked so much darker.
As a nerdy sidenote, I have a few saltwater aquariums and for them you mostly use blue light because red and green gets filtered out by the water, and corals have adapted to this light and can actually be sunburnt by adding light colors that they aren't adapted for. Since blue light is harder to see you need a lot more light to make it look bright and not super dark.
If you ever try to take a picture of a saltwater aquarium you will probably have a hard time and need to do some color adjustments because the camera is "seeing" all light equally and therefore the picture will look a lot more blue than what your eyes see.

Unfortunately I gave up on them because I had the feeling it was kind of expected of me as an adult. just saw this on marks & spencer for £3.75 on sale, apparently it's £12.50 usually, what a good price for a versatile puzzle like this, if the quality holds up like shown in the video.
edit: just looked closer and the m&s one is called "under the sea" and apparently an exclusive m&s image, looks a bit more crowded than the "ocean" puzzle. So who knows if they also changed the quality, the pieces look pretty thin in the picture, but everything else seems about the same.

those color glasses remind me of those cheap 3D glasses, the ones with one red and one blue lens that you get in a Happy Meal or something and that you always break or lose within a day XD
I'm pretty decent at filtering out images and patterns (the perks of being a pattern-based thinker), but this puzzle looks like it would give me a lot of trouble! from the video, I can fairly easily see the picture for which you need the red glasses and I can also focus on the picture for which you need the green glasses with a little effort, but the picture for which you need the blue glasses... I have a very hard time focusing on that pattern when we're just seeing the image with all the colors.
I also have a bit of a problem with the patterns on the Jungle and Animals puzzles, since the glasses don't seem to be filtering the entire blue/red/green pattern on those and since they are busier than the Ocean puzzle those would probably be too difficult for me. but the Ocean puzzle looks doable, though it would probably take me a week XD

I'm good at differentiating patterns too. But I can't pick out the yellow in either of the puzzles. Idk if it's bc red and blue are strong competitors or because I use yellow light at home and have my blue light filter switched on on my phone, but the yellow lines are almost impossible to see.

If I were designing this puzzle, I would make impossible to finish without changing filter.
I watch "Cracking the Cryptic." They do various logic puzzles, sudoku variants. Some of the best variants are combinations of different logic puzzles which are hard in their own right. But they require the solver to use both rules to complete. They can't exhaust one rule set or the other and then go the unused set. Same thing here, need to change rule sets to complete.

Aside from the cool "gimmick" with the glasses, they picked three great designs. The one you did on camera seems the easiest because there's some overlapping but the picture's still quite clear without using the glasses. Then the one you did off-camera seems to be intermediate, and the final one is the most difficult, with the image being a big colourful mess if you don't use the glasses. So it's a great product line for both beginning puzzlers and experts like you!

NOTE AFTER POSTING COMMENTS BELOW: Why is it that I am the only one that doesn't get a "LIKE"...because of the "disclaimer needed" that I posted below??!
Karen, from one "professional" jigsaw puzzler to another, you GOT me! This is a wonderful twist to traditional jigsaw puzzles! I have never seen this before. I have thoroughly enjoyed your serious comments, your funny comments(such as StarWars Extra), and others ("they may have some questions"...I thought of that one, too!).

Okay, these totally impressed me. Do plan on snagging these up. I've basically tried just about everything under the sun like yourself and have similar likes and dislikes when it comes to puzzling. Strong love for unique and colorful while utter distaste for photograph retirement home style puzzles. That being said, these look AMAZING. Last time I was actually impressed with puzzle designers coming up with something new was around the 90s when the crazier colorful stuff came out such as gradients, fractals, octagons and one puzzle type that I've yet to see you do that I'm honestly brainfarting the "technical" term for without digging out my collection to track it down. It's basically photograph but done with a lot of overexposure to produce trippy colors. As much as I dislike photograph puzzles, I found that distinct series of puzzles "mostly" enjoyable. The one exception was ofc of a damn mountain >.> Should really dig those out to be more specific since I think you might get a kick out of them too.

Seeing everything in magenta after taking off the green glasses is a superb demonstration of not one but two of my favorite things about human vision, specifically in how our brains deal with color:
    - magenta isn't a "real" color in the same sense as most other colors; while color exists not as an objective property of matter but as a result of how the human brain (and the brains of any animals that possess color vision to any degree) parses different wavelengths of light, most of those specific colors are associated with one specific frequency of light waves. There are, however, no magenta light waves, because it only exists as our brain interpreting a mix of red (i.e. relatively low frequency) light waves and blue (relatively high frequency) light waves as a single color. In between red and blue light waves are green light waves, so what we're really seeing when we see magenta isn't a color so much as an absence of green light. Basically, magenta is really antigreen.
    - the reason it feels like you've lost the ability to see green is that the neurons in the visual cortex of your brain are too "fatigued" to process green, so to speak; "fatigued" isn't exactly accurate, because it's not a thing we understand very well inasmuch as we understand anything about human visual processing, and so it's hard to be accurate about exactly why your brain emphasizes those colors, but it's why you can trick your brain into seeing a monochromatic photo as color if you prime it by first staring at an inverted color version of that same image, or why you can see the inverted colors of something you've been staring at for awhile if you look away at, say, a white wall. This weird visual "fatigue" can actually involve motion, so if you look at a moving picture of a spiral or similar moving pattern for a bit and then look at a blank wall it'll look like the wall is wiggling.

Hopefully the next set uses a slightly lighter blue. Also, the full color option with no glasses gives you a hard mode of a sort for extra challenge.

What a cool concept and at a great price! I wonder what they’ll put on the next wave of puzzles. Maybe glasses and vases?
Anyway, I’d probably work with one pair of glasses until I felt stuck, then I’d switch to a new pair.

OMG - love this one, the ocean scene is so beautiful. Must get my "glasses" on and use that Amazon GC I got for my birthday to purchase this!!

Nope, definitely not for me at this time. Glasses on top of my glasses 😂 is pretty challenging. I hope one day soon I will improve on my skills. You are amazing at puzzling Karen: with or without Glasses 🥰

These puzzles are beautiful! Just ordered the "Animals" puzzles and can't wait to try it. Don't know which "Glasses" I'll use, but I'm excited to give it a go! Thanks for the recommendation!

The field museum of natural history in chicago has wallpaper from this same company up in their Wild Colors exhibit and they use colored lightbulbs to show the different animals. I loved seeing that and its super cool finding this puzzle channel and puzzle just a few days afyer i went there!
