    There is a reasoning behind the imperial system which makes it easy to use if you learn how to. The metric system however takes 10 seconds to learn.

    Metric is great for everything except temps. Celsius gradations are way too large.

    The US standard system is a conglomeration of multiple different measurement systems. That's why a mile equals 5280 feet, and not 5000 feet. It has more versatility, The mile was also a roman unit for distance. It started in Britain, and was adopted by the US when the US gained independence.

    It was based on units that were easier for common people to measure. For example, a foot is close to the length of a foot, so you could get an approximate measurement counting your paces. Everyone has spoons in their cupboard which are approximately a tablespoon.

    Why? Institutional inertia, plus we won't let the government shove it down our throats like they did in Australia.

    American children learn the metric system as early as kindergarten, especially what 9 millimeter is.
