The video i put up yesterday talking about building this synth and what it is. check description
thank you my friend, im such a lazy person. I have my ms20 mini, i adore it but i dont play it. first i need to clean my set up. i cant finish learning the thing ..i know its simple but i cant underst5ad the utube tutorials at all and i cant memo. Its crazy because i know if i want this daft punk sound i jus click a video. but i still dont memorize simple thing, any way i like pretty much the sound withoput plugs connected tho lolo
Alien encounters in a sea side town?? 🤔
Its a Beast
Sam doing the work to put this "DIY" synth together for the first time from old/new parts and partially functioning pieces of other people's projects was inspiring, especially now that it can make sounds like these.
That really is a legit synthesizer - so many of the D.I.Y. models were little more than toys...
Really nice sounds . I love synthesizers . im 65 and have followed the birth and production of music with them. Just fantastic thank you for your performance.
As I said yesterday absolutely brilliant sounds, well worth the effort of putting it back as it originally should have been.
Impressive machine. The faceplates make this machine look really really good.
The Eurostile font gives it that classic 70's sci-fi technology look.
@@Respected_GentlemanEurostile, or Microgramma perhaps? Either way, the fonts totally suit the look and "vibe" pun intended of the synth.
@@TachyonDriverFrom the same font designer. Microgramma came first and is now considered the compact version of Eurostile. (sorry I'm a tech design geek)
@@Respected_Gentleman geek away, good sir! I have far too many fonts installed on my works PC due to customers wanting personalised workwear . I don't know the history of many of the fonts, but recognise the names sometimes. 😄
@@TachyonDriverHelvetica rules the world. Every sign you see, every ingredient listing on a product.
Even the text you are reading right now is a variant of it.
The way you took unknown, outcast, and in some cases non-functioning bits and pieces and finessed it into something so very, very musical is such a beautiful thing. Not too different from your efforts with Joan's organ.
Sumptuous and scary sounds. Beautiful, looks and sounds like a starship engine. I can smell it through the screen and I’m totally jealous. Synth heaven.
I have a few modern analogs... A couple behringers and a couple arturias, plus a Waldorf filterbank. When I switch on my gear, my bedroom studio smells like burnt rubber. I imagine these oldies even more so
Hey, pretty good sounding for a "scrap" synthesizer - brilliant rebuild.
This beautiful synth looks like the ones in the old Whole Earth Catalog..LOVE IT!!!
This synth has found its forever home✌️
My GAWD that thing sounds beautiful! It's got this warmth and gooeyness to it!!😮❤ how many oscillators and which filters are you using?
Stand alone loveliness. I can imagine smoke and lights in a field somewhere. Good work.
There'd certainly be lots of smoke and lights (from a fire engine!) If I'd tried to assemble this machine and plugged it in! Sam's done a great job.
What an awesome Cosmic Trip through Electronic Bliss !
You should get Vince in for a play......
Vince Clark of Depeche Mode, Yazoo and Erasure? Hell yeah!
I still use a Refill from his 1993 sample collection, hilariously titled "Lucky Bastard".
@@KeritechElectronics Indeed, Vince Clark
Dammmm, this synth sounds like a dream! So, so good!
Looks beautiful and sounds fantastic! Wow!
Nice work getting it to play at 100%. a joy to hear it.
Ok....good start.......now an hour long demo please!
The sounds from this thing are so rich and full. Great work to put it back together in working condition!
sounds absolutely enormous! has real sizzle
So great to see this magnificent synth in action. It's a thing of beauty and a joy for ever. I love the elegant design.
What a glorious machine - excellent work Sam! I can't wait until it gets that second cab on top too :)
Thank you for the GREAT SOUNDS, I LIKE THIS VIDEO AND THESE SYNTH SOUNDS!!!
Sounds as great as it looks, nice work on fixing her up.
This sounds really, really nice!
Sounds amazing unbelievable that's from a DIY magazine, I always thought elektor projects were a bit to top end when I was a kid, using unusual and very specific parts so I stuck to epe and eti but in retrospect I think that elektor ocd pays off
Back when a handful of TTLs and Op-Amps cost several month's worth of pocket money :(
@@NeungView true but there were more options back in those days parts could be salvaged from gear at local tips and peoples bins, and none of the parts were fakes lol. that's how I got by, got pally with all the local tv repair guys too for free parts and A local arcade machine rental outfit for logic chips all before the fake" recycling" was invented I can't take anything from a waste dump now
One thing Elektor taught me (as a fledgling electronics engineer) was the concept of 'TUPTUNDUGDUS'*. In other words, stop sweating about the specs for transistors and diodes, and design your circuits to work with more or less anything. I couldn't afford to build anything too complex as a hobbyist, but this concept stuck, and over the years must have actually saved me ... well, several pounds. *Google it :)
Very impressive Sounds
That synth sounds extraordinary Sam!! ❤It 😎
Loving it bro all your songs are banging 😅
Mello yet trippy great work
Fantastic. Please play clockwork orange on this 🙏
G'damn Sam, that Formant is a totally giggable synth. What a great sound, this was obviously designed by someone who really knew what they were doing. Admittedly the keyboard is dodgy AF but nonetheless the sound! Very full, very vintage. Well done with your massive restoration skills, yet again you breathed life back into a basket case. I'm looking forward to the extension module built from the leftover bits.
This is the best looking & sounding Elektor Formant I've seen.
You made this old pile of tech sing! Thank you for the music!
Nicely done..impress tasty sound👍
Very nice sound!!!
This goes hard. Love it!
you are a genius, this is unreal
Wow @0:34
Sounds superb
Full body goosebumps!
Nice! Sounds great!
mind blowing man. So Dr Who, excellent
This synth seems to be a keeper! Can't wait to hear it with the other oscillators up and running.
This is one chunky synth, for a home built job someone has aced it. Nice one Sam
another amazing vid
🟦... I can't help but think of ELP when I hear the sounds of this synth.
This is SO COOL!!!
Wow, sounds amazing!! Time to step away from the PC and jam with the synths.
My god, you’ve got to love analogue.
best looking set of grey knobs.
The first part sounds like a perfect complement to human interaction on a celestial sojourn. The second part sounds like the sense of anticipation while changing clothes.
Very nice machine!
Thanks for making the build!
**grabbing audio with Dirtywave M8 Tracker.'s sampler**
Shit. I am sorry, just read about the Patronite, which I am happy to join right now!
beautiful machine 😃
After watching that last one, I fired up some old software and farted around with some pseudo analog stuff into the wee small hours.
Sadly, I don't have the cash for hardware. But this machine you restored makes some stunningly powerful sounds!
What you're doing here reminds me of Heaven and Hell by Vangelis. Or perhaps Larry Fast/Synergy. Great stuff!
The free Vcv rack is a good little virtual modular
software modular is my jam! it's super cheap and hella powerful - need another 6 VCOs? No problemo, just dup and go! Voltage Modular for me!
It is so cool, what you are doing
Sound's great
genialny sprzęt 👍 Pozdrawiam
once again: i love it
Painting he knobs grey was definately the right thing to do
Gettin' into the Logan's Run soundtrack area......
"dirty" sounding.brilliant👍
inspirational~
oh what a growling beauty!
Nice !
much wow
You may have built the best sounding synth ever.
Oh that sounds really cool. Hope the keyboard's contacts dont get stuck again!
Such a chunky monkey synth! Deep and rich voicing and subs too! 👍🙏👽
Just Wow!
You started playing and I immediately thought of the song by Magic Sword
IM now doing an animation.., but i really want to do a machine that could produce nice sounds! Like this here!
VCV Rack has a free version. You should look that up.
(I am not employed by them)
Absolutely beautiful and fantastic! The best in the entire Universe.
Totally giving me early Pertwee Dr Who vibes, love it!!!
That legato is legit 💪
4:40 already good to place in music album and sell !
Definite 70s sci-fi movie vibes from this jam, Sam. Fully expect it to involve macro photography of a termite colony as they scheme with alien intelligence against a geodesic dome of scientists who make the mistake of thinking it is them studying the termites…
eh. its just a passing phase (iv) dont strain yourself (andromeda)
@@asn413 :) A cinephile after my own heart!
Getting BIG Pictures At An Exhibition vibes from this!
Cool!
Daam that thing has some bottom end, wow!
I like that it's good
Legato's my favorite.
Its so buzzy and yet has a fairly glassy filter. 😮
you like that machine, don'cha? I do too, oodles of potential!
Wicked!!!
Love this. Reminds me of Old Dr Who or sapphire and steele.
Loving 5:00!
Hey Sam. It's got a nice, saturated sound. Is that its natural sound, or an external effect?
Damn, I had a formant synth I built in the early 80's. Gave it away when I ran out of space. If only...
Sam's new prog album out soon. "In The Court Of The Furby King"
Goodness, Sam. You need a cape to play that thing.
That looks and sounds really impressive! I've got a Formant as well (from around 1978) but mine doesn't have the sequence module :O I got the phaser though :P always lots of fun playing with this thing! (edit:typo)
Never mind - just saw your other video on the build of this Formant 😅 shoutout to Jos!
I traded one not too long ago. Is this RF?
@@sn1000k RF? You lost me here 🤔
Super dirty! Wow I love it’s look too with cheeky wood. Masterpiece!
analog audio distortion is the best harmonics...always will be.
Dang, nice and crunchy from the start.
What module is producing that glissando/portamento/glide from the keyboard? Is that something built into the keyboard interface "module" itself?
Phat 🔊🔊🔊
I was just waiting for a spring to get stuck haha
Can't even imagine how exciting it would have been to be on the cutting edge of the synthesiser age. What would it have been like to find these sounds that no one had ever heard before?
Instantly made me think of Soulwax for some reason
Ahh and now I have to go and listen to Dark Side of he moon.
