Ritchie said in the announcement that this album came together in an attempt to get away from his perfectionist tendencies in his Injury Reserve/By Storm work. The album is left rough on purpose and it adds to the charm/atmosphere imo.
true, doesnt mean you have to like it even if its intentional
Lmao the best way to defend an album. “It’s bad on purpose you just don’t get it”
@@thefloodwatch785 oh no I agree but I’m saying the album being rougher around the edges isn’t a matter of randomness or by mistake, it was a conscious decision. Fantano seemed confused in the video and took it as a strike against the artistry itself
@@Kiiiyoshiii see my other reply but yeah it’s still subjective I didn’t say nobody could cite the atmosphere as a reason they dislike the album. I said I personally enjoyed that aspect a lot lmao. Fantano wasn’t coming from a place of malice and neither am I, we’re both just sharing our opinions. This album was a collection of songs he didn’t feel fit the vibe of IR/BS work and in that lens it accomplished his goal while (again, in MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION) being a very enjoyable body of work.
TLDR; please hop off of it
It kind of feels like you are truly in his mind.
Looking forward to the Bye Storm debut
*By Storm
goodbye storm
Fr, I can definitely wait for it though. This album was amazing.
Double trio was the best song of last year
@@nota_2526completely agree
Just saw him on his first tour date last night actually! He is very much using this album/tour to grow and figure out what to say post Injury Reserve. He took a lot of time to let the crowd know that he’s not entirely sure what he’s doing up there. It was refreshing to me, you see so many artists come up on tour playing the hits and nothing else. Like you make an album and don’t perform more than half of it? It’s like why are you making this music in the first place?
I think that By Storm has been a bit lost since By The Time I Get To Phoenix was made. I think by walking out and saying up front “hey I don’t know what I wanna do yet, but you’re here to help me figure it out” is kind of a good thesis for this era of artistry. I love the fully formed star, but there’s room for people who slip and fall on their way up. Ritchie is showing that it’s okay to make mistakes. He’s human.
There’s good nuggets in the album. Bits and pieces where something is forming. He’ll figure it out with time. This only makes me more excited for whatever By Storm comes out with next. They’ll have a better target to aim for once this era is over.
Any chance you could share a bit of what songs Ritchie played? Was he playing any Injury Reserve or did he stick to his new album & other tracks. Seeing him later this year on the tour
@@lachlanbrown530he played all the stuff off this Album and two other songs, an unreleased one that was meant for this album and a deep cut that I didn’t know lol. He acknowledged that it’s a lot shorter concert compared to the Injury Reserve ones. And by the time he performs in your city the setlist order will probably be changed to hell because he was roasting the order he had originally the entire time lol. He did mention that “How” was his favorite track, which actually surprised me. But still had a great time and he was great.
@@tannertortorella7581didn’t know the name of the unreleased, but the other one was Deja Vu by Loraine James (he featured on that one)
God i love this project man, the roughness feels intentional and only adds to the character of it to me. Frankly a beautiful fuzzy little album in its own weird way
Also, i think your questioning on the rough mixing is kinda being called out on ritchies verse on HOW tbh. You gotta let this stuff flow
It’s definitely intentional, he stated so on Twitter
@Jwitdaplays yeah, I'm really glad ritchie dropped this project like it is. I wasn't sold on the amount of interludes and short tracks at first, but it seems like this project really was just an way of just making a song with no pressure on his back. Its very freeing to see an artist not push themselves to polish everything about them down into that marketable "stars" we usually see them as
RIP Groggs. This Ritchie album is so human tho
??
The design is very human
@@nightcr_wlerWhat do you mean with "??"? Its pretty straight forward
@@yaboyegreja7750WHEN THE NIGHT CRAWLS 🗣️🗣️🗣️
Its sad that the end of injury reserve came as they hit their prime
if it was called double digits [10] you would've given it a 10
@StevieNockmanjust get a job and save money for a 4k camera
Triple digits = 6/10
Quintuple digits = 10/10
Haha. 🥱
🤓😴🤮
i think the best way to enjoy Get a Fade is to know that it's RiTchie's rendition of a Girlpool cover of a Radiator Hospital song lol
Oh shit I knew I recognized that melody
No Cal? This review is a light 3
Was hoping you'd review this one hell yeah
6/10 is crazy tho, strong 7 lite 8
I think it's worth noting that some stylistic choices are good and necessary but are inherently not applicable to a 10/10 review
I love how DIY this record feels, sometimes you want some shit that really sounds like a dude fucking around in his basement
It kind of reminds of this short collaborative release by NAH/GIVV that i was obsessed with in high school, i think more rap now could use that energy/ethic
It feels less professional and more homemade, if you get what I mean. I think that’s why I love it so much, the roughness really brings feeling to it rather than following a guideline.
one of the best albums of the year for me, 9/10
It's mine also but I would give it a 8+/10 it just feels like RiTchie trying to keep going on a very straight forward way and for what it is I think it is really great
8/10 for me. End of the album feels weak but this is easily one of the best abstract/experimental albums of the year, if not the best
Also a strong 8 here!!
Objectively wrong but it’s okay melon ❤
How could you not love The Thing Anthony
Really interested in listening to this record now. It sounds like Ritchie is truly experimenting in the most literal way which seems dope. Love his approach to art and it seems like most of the roughness is a real artistic choice. Can't wait for a fully fleshed out project from By Storm.
I agree Anthony, RiTchie definitely has potential, especially showcased on the songs RiTchie Valen, Dizzy, and Looping, but what was tried on Get a Fade is best left behind. Can't wait to form my own opinion on it!
I didn't realize how much I liked dizzy til it accidentally looped on play while I was doing chores and didn't realize it was looping cause I liked it so much. Last song that happened with was a kpop song (Sunmi-1/6)
Bro, I know this album is old, but it aged really good, it’s called Hexes by Dirty Art Club, a massive underrated hip hop artist, I recommend this album to you Fantano, it’s available on Spotify
I don't think Anthony uses Spotify, bro
@@Olhado256 Damn okay, well that album is on other streaming services, and I think it’s available on vinyl now, I’m not too sure about it
I find it pretty cool that both this and the matt champion album were debuts from ex-group members, got 6's and had their favourite tracks be just the 3 singles for the album.
I enjoyed the production a ton! Ritchie’s vocal inflections are fun too! The only thing that bothered me was the little bit at the end of “the thing” was a lil pretentious for me I can see what you’re saying s out stuff being unfinished but I don’t think I mind I just need some cool sounding brain rot
Happy you reviewed it!
Why is J.Cole on the Album Cover?
i liked this album a lot, glad you reviewed it
Went to his show last night, sounds even better in person and can’t wait to hear more from him.
I know almost nothing of Injury Reserve/RiTchie but I got free tix for his show tonight (just got back home) and it was a lot different than what I expected. Didn't really know what I was getting into, but seeing him figuring out the whole solo act/crowdwork with a more intimate crowd and smaller venue was a fun time for sure
I wasn't expecting Anthony and Ritchie to start touching tips on the thumbnail, 10/10 video.
Oh, I thought this was a Margot and the Nuclear So and So's review for a second. You should do them next!
Would love for you to review Aaron West and the Roaring Twenties newest album In Lieu of Flowers. One the best music story telling anthologies that exist, and this latest album really caps it off so nicely
I really like the rough feel on Get a Fade, its very different to anything else RiTchie or Injury Reserve has done
i’m a huge fan of both other versions of that song, so the production will have to grow on me, but i love the tune so much
An album people have been sleeping on: "Loud Arriver" by Sonja. Came out at the end of 2023. Trad metal trio led by former Absu guitarist, Melissa Moore. *I* think its a great album. They just announced signing to Century Media Records a few days ago, and released a single for a second upcoming record.
Good project for his first solo… diffidently sounds refreshing to hear too🔥
I feel like this album is throw aways from a Bye Storm project. Still a good record, excited for the future.
For an album of 14 tracks this thing has real big EP energy. I wish that he'd been able to bring this thing more into focus and maybe dialled in one more banger on the back end as it feels a bit front loaded. I also hope to hear more "voices" from him on future projects. Ritchie has a lot of range, but here he leans a bit hard on that almost-yawning, mocking tone. That said, I still find myself spinning this one, so it has its hooks in me at least.
Review heavy by sir
Yeah unfortunately I don’t think the album lived up to the three singles, but it’s still a solid debut. He’s got a great sound and so much potential as a solo artist.
Looping might be one of the best songs this year
My favorite project this year
my annoying ass is once again requesting you review the new cindy lee double album i get its long but it’s soooo good😭
Thoughts on the New Black Keys album?
day 3 of asking melon to review Vegyn's *The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions*
I think the album being rough around the edges is what I like most about it. Solid 7 to a light 8 for me.
Can’t believe you gave this album a 112! If you gave Jobe VII a similar score Jobe would be over the moon. I am continuing to get replies from people assuming I am Jobe. I’m not Jobe. I’m a really close friend of his and have taken over his UA-cam channel after his move to Bandcamp. He has no idea that I’m leaving these paragraphs. I’m doing this because of my love for the music and because I believe an album as good as Jobe VII deserves to be reviewed. The record’s gritty, raw rock sounds really deserves to be heard by more people. Jobe currently has only seven Bandcamp followers and not very many subscribers on this channel that I now control. If you reviewed Jobe VII, I guarantee he and many others would be very pleased or at least somewhat amused. Thank you! :-)
Something completely off-topic
your channel is great and I love your music taste!
Lana del Rey get a lot of bad reactions because of her performance last night, and in my opinion it was an amazing performance.
She had some mic problems but other than that I liked her singing, the performance and the songs.
Am I wrong or what's going on? How did you find it?
If you're not going to rate a performance I totally understand it!

You should review micah., its such a good album
Great album review.
if this album was called single digit [1] you would've given the album a 1.
I quite liked this album, I don't rly like rating things honestly but if I was to I'd give it like a 7, production was great I love the song with Niontay
the albums quite good but not something id listen to multiple times. makes me excited for the future of by storm though, seems that were gonna get something great if this is just a silly little side project
Could you do a review of "Liberation 2" by Talib Kweli and Madlib? I tend to agree with your opinions so I would quite like to know what you think before I listen to it.
This album really doesn’t have to be good or accessible and I feel like most of us can agree that this was mostly needed as more of a “vent” album, but for those that highly enjoy it, power to you. Rest in Peace Groggs❤️🩹
could you review the new Libby Quinn EP Hellzapoppin ?
have you gotten around to reviewing pinball by MIKE
It seems like he would make it one of the “short” album reviews. Honestly it was an impressive project though
@@Dinosaur12349 ya I forgot to listen to it but got reminded by a friend and it was a really fun listen
There are some head-scratchers on this album, to be sure. The lyrical observations are darkly funny, and the production has some great peaks though. I think a 6 is a fair score for this one.
honestly i loved this album how?! is sm fun to listen to
Aww their fingers connected in the thumbnail
He made it very clear that this is a side project
I am also named Ritchie with a T, I make my own "runway music"
When Black Keys new album?
Mount Kimbie tn, king? 👀
If this album was made live from the dentist office then this could easily be a 10.
The album feels like a The Koreatown Oddity project but less developed in concept and ideas. The singles are bangers though.
Black Marble's A Different Arrangement or It's Immaterial please
Damn 6/10. Based on your review I was expecting 4-light 5 out of 10.

Had no idea Injury Reserve split!
They didn’t split, renamed to “by storm” because it didn’t feel right continuing IR without groggs
