It's incredible that Jake Yates only saw his first safety razor in 2018, and yet he's launched three near-perfect products (921-M, Merica and Winning)!
You and Jake are tied in my den. I've got 3 Yates and 3 Rex razors. You guys are making some of the best stuff that has ever been made, and keeping a great tradition alive.
I reach for the Winning the most these days. It shaves my stubborn thick chin closer in 1 pass than everything else. My experience is less buffing with the Winning, but I'm only ever doing one day of stubble. The Winning and Ambassador are my most efficient razors despite feeling so different.
The 'Merica is also fantastic. I'd recommend it to anyone regardless of skill level or someone who likes a more traditional DE angle and feel. I also like it more for head shaving. I think I just gravitate to the Winning more because I'm also a big GEM fan.
I have both the 'Merica and the Winning razors. I like the Winning razor because, despite the extra buffing I do, I get a VERY close shave and NEVER get nicked. With the 'Merica, I do less buffing, but I will get nicked time to time. I think it is just a matter of skill level. My skill level is not like Matt's, so I will reach for the Winning razor most of the time.
Couldn't agree with you more on the Winning and never getting nicked.
Do you like any other Steel razors...feel free to recommend!
@@Zakdayak The stainless steel Yaqi adjustable slant is a great option... You can dial it to whatever agression you need!
@@pkaronis1 thank you, my friend
Soap name suggestions:
1) LEATHERBERRY
2) RAZZ 'n SADDLE
Looking forward to that new soap and splash! I told DJ to name it "Monsoon"
But there's always room in my den for 1 more Razor Emporium soap!
The soap making on-site looked so cool!
Thank you for another great video 🙏
Great video. I am hoping my family gets me the Merica razor for Father's Day. 🤞 I would say for a soap name it could be Raspberry Beret (I think I Love Her...) 😂
Yates Winning Razor and 921-M are my go-to's for a nice, quick, irritation free shave. I have been leaning more towards the 921 now that I have gotten used to the 921. The Winning Razor is slightly more aggressive than a Henson (mild not the ++) IMO. But with the fixed blade angle of the Winning, it gives that autopilot shave. Great for beginners.
Congrats - you're the winner of the Weekly T-Shirt give-away! Please contact us at help@razoremporium.com with your address and size and we will get it shipped out right away! Thanks everyone! Stay tuned next week for another giveaway! - Razor Emporium Team
@@RazorEmporium Wow! How cool 😎! I'll get in touch. Thank you so much!
Committed customer here and enjoying your videos. I have purchased several razors from you along with a supply of sample blades to play with in various razors. I sure have learned a great deal from your videos and have become a DE shaving influencer to those I know personally. Influenced a close friend to make a purchase from you and I think he is also hooked on DE shaving now. My only regret is not being able to make it to your meet-up.
Thanks for sharing! Good on you to spread the word :)
Hey guys, Yates just opened up orders for the Winning razor as of March 8th, so if you want one you better grab it while you can as they tend to sell out quickly.
Yates Merica is my go to razor! Love it!
I own both razors I like them both for their own purposes the Winning definitely is like a Henson with the auto-pilot type head angle and the Merica is more traditional. I grab the Winning when I just want to zip through getting hair off my face and the Merica when I want to be more intentional. I can't wait to get the new soap and splash too I love the smell of the sample.
I have a Winning on order. Can’t wait to try it. With my sensitive skin and bunny slope beard, a mild but efficient blade gap and exposure is the winning formula. Thanks for the comparison, Matt.
Sounds great!
Great shave! I own the Winning and I love it! Though mild feeling, very efficient.
Great video Matt. I have both razors and prefer the Merica. I get a close comfortable shave from it. Some time I have to get some samples of the soap. Will you have samples at Maggert meetup of the Razor Emporium soap? Have a great weekend. 👍
American Amber…I love that scent! I keep using it and I want the splash to go with it.
Another great video Matt!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I have both on order. Excited to get them, but wondering if they are like catching a leprechaun. I see them just can’t get my hands on them.😂
I have the winning razor. My only issue is sometimes it drags.
I have both razors but have always been a huge fan of the Winning Razor. Actually shaved with the Winning Ti today. It is definitely mild but surprisingly efficient. The blade clamping is next level. Yates makes great razors.
Agreed!
Great comparison video. I’ve been contemplating on getting a 921 BYOR razor. Just need to decide between SS or Ti.
The ‘Merica is the only razor I own. It’s got the perfect balance of efficiency and smoothness.
Wondering where the Sentry (or Konsul) lands for aggression between these two razors, anyone have input? I tend to like more mild razors. My Blackbird Lite is probably my fav razor. I do like my Rex Envoy but need to use it slowly until my skill improves. I have had great irritation free shaves with the Envoy but have to go slow.
I have the Winning and the 921. The winning is similar in design to my Henson mild but I personally get a little more blade feel out of the Winning.
The amber, leather, and raspberry are making me think the scent is inspired by Tom Ford's Tuscan Leather, but that just could be me. It is "raspberry vanilla," so it might be different. Maybe since you guys are in Arizona and this was part of the meetup, maybe do something named after a major staple of Arizona, like the Grand Canyon and call it "Canyon Leather" or "Grand Leather" perhaps.
Nice comparison video. Suggestion, can you always state the blade you are using. That makes a difference as well.
It's always shown on the opening video montage - it's been russian perma sharp for years. thx :)
@@RazorEmporium Thanks, I must have missed that.
Most people I see shaving with a razor with neutral exposure either press harder than usual or go over the same area over and over again. My razor has a blade gap of .73 mm and exposure of 0.07 mm which is perfect for me (Karve Overlander). Mild yet efficient.
Cool review on Yates, are you also doing a review on Karve Razors.
I need to! Always another video to shoot....
Is it possible to create a shaving cream without comedogenic ingredients such as coconut oil? i see this brought up in forums non stop and its incredibly difficult to find. the only one in the market from tons of researching is by Aveeno but its obviously not as good performing. Thank you.
Merica is still too mild for me. It left a lot of stubble. I tried this with several different first-used blades. Although putting a little more pressure seems to work, but left some irritation. The winning razor looks like it left a lot on you. My Henson milds did a lot better. I will stick to the Envoy and the Konsul.
Hi, do you think Winning razor is a good choice for head shaving than Rex Envoy? Which razor would you recommend for head shaving?
Never head shaved so I can't comment
Hi Matt, Here’s a name suggestion: Sunrise Medley. Looks like two good razors. Thanks for demonstrating them. Quick question: How good is the blade clamping on the two razors?
Fantastic
Excellent comparison Matt! I have the Winning razor and get a slight drag with it, the quality is excellent. How about “Sedona Sunrise” for the soap name?
not too bad :) thx
@@RazorEmporium👍🏻
Are they bringing the Winning back??
Hey Matt nice review. I am not seeing the Winning on the RE site. When will it be up for sale?
We are sold out and hoping for more soon from Yates :) Thx
@@RazorEmporium thanks for the quick reply. Is there an ETA?
Hi Matt--Which brush did you use for this video? I don't see it listed in the beginning or referenced after the video. Looks like a brush I would want to get. Thanks!

@@RazorEmporiumThanks! which knot option were you using? I liked how well the brush splayed when you were lathering.
“Desert Sun”
Is shaving soap hard on the skin and hard to wash off? … when compared to shaving creams.
no.
New soap name suggestion: Cowgirl
Based on the scent notes you gave from the soap it sounds masculine, american, semi romantic....
I'd name it "American Prairie"
Dolly parton? 😂
"That's Famous Titles, Mr. Connery..."
1988 ?? Just a wild guess.
nope this will be for the razor emporium vegan base line, not the REX tallow base line.
"Raspberry Beret"
The kind you find in a second hand store?
I just used my sample of the new soap. The image I get in my head is a punk rocker in a leather jacket--more specifically a young "straightedge" punk. There's a sweet wholesomeness to it, but it still has an attitude. Definitely not an "old man" or "barbershop" scent. Not sure how all that would be summed up in a name. That scene has a distinctive aesthetic. Maybe you could mine it and find one. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straight_edge
