great idea. i have worked with the same dollar tree hands, and great way to shape them quick and easy is to get a low cost heat gun. heat the fingers ( don't over heat) then shape the fingers around the tubes from the hand tools on a vacuum cleaner. as soon as you get the desired shape run it under cold yap water it will harden up immediately.
@@freshness696 ok the way i did it was with a crafting heat gun. try to not go to fast or get to close with the heat too much will cause it to flatten or burn a hole have the tube or whatever you want to bend the fingers around. if you don't get them bent enough the first time afyer cooling them under the cool water simply reheat and try again. it is a trial and error kind of thing. if i can find a photo of how mine came out i will post it here. i use mine on top of a hutch or high shelf looks cool.
I love this, and I’m absolutely going to try to make it. So glad to see a creepy halloween DIY - and not cutesy Halloween, like so many other channels. Love the aging technique and the red crayon. The skull chandelier was awesome too. 👍👍👍
Bro, totally agree! Halloween is supposed to be creepy and scary. Not "cutesy" and all that, I mean maybe for little kids if you're still 4 and don't really know what Halloween is yet.
You could put the first layer down, then pipe cleaners, then next layers. Mold the same way, but when it gets to curving it around the can, the wire in the pipe cleaners will hold the hand in place.
I love it . I just got a 1885 pump organ and I'm going to put a skeleton sitting on the bench and I'm going to make these candle holders so thank you so much
I love this idea. I will glue heavy duty velcro instead of gluing the hand in place because I need to be able to break down the craft for easy storage. Happy 🎃 Halloween!
Love the idea of using a red crayon for the blood. I've never seen that before. I have mostly seen dripping hot glue down and then painting it. The red crayon is more realistic!
Hey thank you for such an amazing idea!!!! I actually just heated the fingers and started curving them to look like yours and it was perfect!! Just an idea ! Thanks again !
This is so cool!! I’m gonna make one for my decorations for sure. I’d only recommend leaving out one of the joints for the thumb since actual thumbs only have 2 sections.
This came up in my suggested vids today and I just had to smile. I made two of these last year and pulled them out of storage just the other day. I put them on either side of my front door. They look so cool. Thanks again!
Also you can use the heat gun and then dip the hand into cold water to help set the curve you want. Just always be careful not to stay too long in one place, you just want to warm, not melt the plastic
It’s cute and very effective!! It of course needs to be hung properly and a stronger adhesive even molding clay to shape the hand connection. Then it would be more suitable with a tea light candle inside a prop larger candle.
I absolutely love how you make the skeletons look weathered I also use that same method because you taught me that last year when I made the chandelier which is by far my favorite thing and I hanging on my front porch
Love this! I am going to be making a few of these for sure! One question, if this hand is soft enough of a plastic to easily cut with plain scissors, would it also work to use a heat gun and just heat up the fingers and bend them into shape instead of cutting and gluing? Great tutorial. Very clear and easy to follow. Thank you for sharing!
I used those hands once to make The Walking Dead 'Don't Open/Dead Inside' doors for my office. It was cool. I also manipulated the hands, they wouldn't of looked right stiff.
Wow!!!! How cool!!! See this is exactly what I needed cuz I bought a bunch of those silver plates and didn't know what to do with them so I decided I should just donate them but after watching this, I've changed my mind!!!! Thank y'all as always!!! Love this and Halloween is my favorite too!!!
That turned out really cool! I’m gonna have to check my local dollar trees and see if any of them have the skeleton hands in yet. I can think of more than a few other places I could put those... like sticking out of the mouth of a shark plushie, wrapped around a little birdcage, curled around the edge of a door, there’s just so many good ways to use these!
@@TheCraftyCouple - YAY! Turned out awesome! THANK YOU! I had to improvise and shall share that for others who might need to do the same. But ONE BIG TIP FIRST. *Snipping Fingers:* Make sure you snip close to the table or whatever flat surface you are using. Control that snip because those fake fingers can become little projectiles that land _anywhere._ I’ve been looking for a thumb for over a half hour now. LOL! 😝🤪😖😩 *Candle Improv:* Dollar Tree was all out of the candles, but I improvised with a plastic jar about the same size. Here’s how. 1) Drill a hole in the jar’s bottom center (bottom goes concave a bit like a candle - it became the top of my candle). 2) Paint it all off white. 3) Use hot glue gun to add some wax (dripping and pooling) around the candle top and dripping down the sides. 4) Once it looked like a candle,“drip the blood” using either a red crayon (melt with lighter) or red-colored hot glue sticks. If you have neither, you can use white or clear hot clue and paint it red after it hardens. 5) Affix double-sided foam squares to top of a fake tea light candle. 6) Shove it inside the plastic jar so that the lit flame part goes through the hole. I 7) Use a stick (or other long non-sharp instrument) to push the tea light down snugly so the double sided foam stickers take hold. 8) Use the same stick to turn on the tea light. 9) Paint the jar lid white. 10) When dry, glue it upside down to the palm of the hand. 11) Pool some “wax” and “blood” around the base using the hot glue(s)/crayon. 12) Once dry, screwin the rest of the candle. It ended up working nicely. I can turn the candle on and off but still have it affixed to the hand. I’m too clumsy and there’s too much commotion in my house to just leave it sitting there in the hand. Thanks again! This was so fantastic and looks marvelous!!!
I took my DT hands, applied a heat gun, til warm. and bent them at the joints. I then hot glued them into the needed claw shape. Not perfect, but it saved me all that cutting (hand issues). I also added creepy plastic press on nails to the tips. and painted them black.
Saw & saved your skull chandelier the other day and now saving this one too! Love them both and great easy techniques to achieve the fun and spooky decor! Thanks so much- you got an Instafollow from me!🥰👻
Very cool! I love your painting technique for the hand. I did a hand holding a glass & one holding a candle. I used brown, white & black paint, yours turned out so much better. I did not cut my fingers instead I heated them up and bent them. It was a slow process but worked. Love your project. Glad you’re back. Be Well. Thank you for sharing
Awesome technique on the skeleton hand!! Looks great!! Tray looks perfect! Love the blood effect on the candle with a crayon, too!! Very impressive piece for Halloween!! Tyfs!
Love this. Have you tried the Gorilla Hot Glue? And Pool Noodles Candles are an excellent choice as well if you don’t want actual flame. I Love Skulls and Skeletons ♥️🤣
Absolutely stunning..blows my mind how much thought and creativity you both have.. love your techniques, I learn something new every time. I always look forward to your posts they are never a disappointment..thank you
Nice paint job on the hand. I actually just bought two of these and a pair of their thin, black work gloves to try and make a pair of skeleton gloves. I have a very nice, hard plastic skull mask, but the effect is kind of ruined without also having skeleton hands and ready-made ones are kind of expensive. I was thinking of cutting the hands in half so they're half as thick, then cutting the finger bones apart and attaching them to the back of the gloves. The attachment process is the part I haven't quite worked out yet. Plus, they're both lefties (they don't make right hands), but it should work. I suppose I could always use the bottom half of one hand for the wrist bones on the right hand as it would be the reverse of the top. I was going to try and make bones from scratch, but I'm too lazy. :)
I love this, I'm going to give it a try myself. I'll send you a picture of the finished project. Thanks for the instructions. Truly appreciate your tutorials and your channel. 😎
Im so hurt that I'm just seeing your video. They have cleaned out majority of the Halloween stuff. I have always looked at those hands and couldnt think of anything cute to do with them. That is so sexy to me. My house is deco mostly goth style. Will be digging through my old Halloween stash looking for one..lol New subscriber on deck.!!! Keep up the good work!!
What do you use to hang these? I've made one and I haven't gotten it to hang up for long. Looks so cool and was super easy just need to find what works for hanging.
Really cool! I also watched the skull chandelier video and it was awesome. I’m thinking of using it for my granddaughter’s birthday party which is on Halloween. Thanks for the great ideas.

You can use a heat gun and warm the hand and while soft mold them around an item then, let it cool. That’s a clever way to make a thumb!
I like that idea. Have you done that with the hands?
@@TheCraftyCouple not yet but another crafter has even a hair dryer for those hollow hands would work, the heat gun might be too hot.
