An amazing build, as always, Michael, few bits from my experience to help out - you can use, Kapton tape as a thermal insulator, it’s normally used in soldiering to protect plastic connectors from getting too hot. Also, if you’re concerned about the heat going through the metal cap to foam also wood, then you could isolate it using a ball bearing or a drawing pin, whichever minimizes the contact area to the cap, while still providing support.
Who says you can’t smell a video!? This is an awesome idea and it is integrated so seamlessly to the rest of the build. Lovely little video to bring in the new year!
Ahhh thanks so much for saying so! I really appreciate that... and its comments like this that make it all worth doing! I am glad what I do is useful :D Happy new year, I hope you have an epic 2024
Cheers dude! I'm pretty happy how it fits in. Nice concept for other terrain too ... can imagine some smoking debris using the same technique ! Happy new year by the way. Hope 2024 is an epic year ;)
@@Nat1videos Oh definitely! A lovely calming aroma after your homestead's been burnt down by raiding Uruk-hai and Dunlendings 😂 Happy new year to you and your family and right back at ya Mike, can't wait to see what you have in store for us in 2024!
The easiest ideas are often the best ones! This is also a good occasion to thank you for all the fantastic videos this year and wish you a healthy, happy new year. Wet greetings from Germany, Thomas ☔
This is brilliant! I have played around with modified vapes to create smoke, but the glycerine I used made things really sticky and was just a hassle to handle. This looks so much simpler and a much better bang for your buck, thanks for the idea.
Yeah, this works really nicely! The one down side which I should have mentioned is ash disposal, but you can simply remove the little unit and tap it off in the sink and wash it away... so not too bad. Hoping you have an epic 2024 !! ;)
@@Nat1videos same to you! I've been crafting tabletop terrain for a few years now, and this is the first time I've seen something like this! Using incense as smoke, genius!
An awesome addition to the project! I’ve used incense in other projects to great affect and love what it adds to a build and gaming table! Great video!
Neat idea. Teenagers from the 90s held this technology for.. alternative smoke effects purposes. Incense is smart, and basic aluminium foil would do the trick too :)
This was already an amazing piece but now you've added smoke it's out of this world amazing! Have a great 2024 and thank you for all the videos, you're raising the bar all the time and I can't wait to see what you make this year.
Thank you very much! Hopefully 2024 is a super creative year for everyone in the community! Thanks for supporting the channel, I appreciate it greatly :D
Yes... But in this model it is sitting on a cross of MDF with low surface contact! However , that is a good observation and my friend Dafydd made a great suggestion in the comments of using an insulating tape. Have a scroll through the comments ..... I may do an update video at some point. Thanks for watching, Happy new year :D
I like the idea, it looks great.. but for two things. I'm allergic to incense... plus you probably should be very careful about burning things in your model builds.
Ohhh thats a shame! Yeah, taking care is essential! Thats why I used the tin and metal bottle cap. Gladly that create plenty of insulation for the amount of heat generated. Thanks for watching :D
@@AngelusNielson yeah it’s a good point, I should probably make the health and safety aspects a bit more clear! I will keep this in mind next time, thanks ;)
@@TopGGGGGGGG. no worries. Fortunately for me, I can look at the effect on video and go "That's cool." oh and by the way I've seen people do this kind of thing with broken down vape-pens. But that's essentially a mini smoke machine...
Weird synchronisity: I just lit a stick of incense before this video poped into my feed. I clicked, and here I am watching this video while smelling the pleasant sent of incense.
Bucking frilliant, Michael. Great addition

Simple and efficient smoke effect creation. The house looks nice;
Thank you :D
Already loving the little single-topic videos. Incense is a great idea for effects like this.
Glad you like them! More to come, all being well. Happy new year ;)
I figured that’s how! It turned out just perfect!!! The chimney cap is a really nice touch, and I love how it gives it top access but stays protected!
Thanks mate! Yeah, now I gotta think of some other neat applications...
Thanks. ❤
very cool idea. not only does this add realism to the diorama, but it will help make th room smell better 🙂
haha yeah, It does smell good!! Gotta choose the right incense though ... Thanks for watching l:D
That's genius! I am definitely going to steal this idea! Well done.
Please do! Also check Dafydds comment for a better idea on issulating it and protecting foam etc from heat! ;)
