Bal is an idol who was worshipped in Western Syria by people at that time. Allah sent his prophet Elias to call them to worship the true Allah. They didn't believe him. He challenged them and asked them to slaughter a cow and put it between woods. Then ask your idol and l will ask Allah to see who will set the fire. They worshipped their idol for fire from morning till evening and nothing happened. Elias asked Allah to set fire. The fire came like a rocket from the sky and the cow was in fire. The disbelievers bowed down and said:” We believed in Allah, the true God”. The other disbelievers who didn't believe this miracle were punished
