    Chris de Burgh is such a fabulous story teller and has been for decades. I have ssen him live a few times in the UK and he stays on stage for the whole session, performing solo mid concert. What a writer/performer. Thank you Chris.

      The Tower and also Lonely Sky from that album always bring tears to my eyes. His songs are so incredible emotional. Both musically and lyrically. I almost avoid listening to Chris De Burgh these days because I just know he will make me break down and cry. There is great power in his songs. I really don't know how he does it. He is very unique.

    Chris DeBurgh was huuuuuge in Canada, long before Lady in Red. He would come to Ottawa from time to time and it was legendary how the audience would not leave when the concert was over. He would come back out for encore after encore and finally, come out with just his guitar and say, "What do you people want?" Well... sing until we all die of happiness. That's all. Try "The Tower," "Lonely Sky," "Every Drop of Rain," "High on Emotion," "Flying Home," "Satin Green Shutters," "Patricia the Stripper," "A Spaceman Came Traveling," "The Traveler." I see you have already done Don't Pay the Ferryman, and I'm sure I'm missing some wonderful songs, but this catalogue is a treasure trove... just delightful at every turn.

    Chris never toured in the United States. He made some appearances when his song Lady in Red was a hit in the middle 80's. But in Europe he is HUGE!

    Most of Chris' songs were album tracks - the only real single that was released was "Lady in Red" which got way too much airplay back in the day. I love this song, and it would make a lovely wedding song.

    An awesome chorus, to be sure. I've always thought this song was missing a verse or three to fill the gap between the wedding day and the cemetery headstone visit. Chris could've put the couple's kids playing in the churchyard, included their daughter's wedding day there, too, and even had the couple praying together there when they found out she was terminal. It could've been a Harry Chapin-esque classic ... alas! Good request!

    • @patrickmullen4499
      @patrickmullen4499 2 роки тому +1

      J.K. I disagree with you a little there. I think the fact that he only includes the start and the finish allows us, the listener, to fill in the gaps ourselves. Look at the detail you went into yourself.
      Although who won't want a longer version of such a beautiful song.

    This was not a hit Harri, Chris mostly just released albums.
    You really need to see some of his early live performances from the 80’s/90’s. He is truly one of the most underrated artists EVER (IMO).
    For example, “The Revolution Trilogy” was Chris’s attempt to “make a song come alive in the head, like a movie”. I will post a link in the reply. It’s a bit of a masterpiece.
    Also try to explore his Munich & Dublin concerts of the 80’s. Just astounding. Thanks 🙏🏻

      I agree about him being underrated. Probably because he had a massive hit with the song Lady In Red they wrote him off as a schmaltzy one hit wonder. To me he's one of the best singer songwriters out there.

    He was / is an under rated talent. I think because he doesnt have much COOL about him . He dont have much of the rolling stones appeal, or, Billy Idol, Or, Elvis or tom Jones. Great righting ability and voice.

    You would have loved to be it the song of the times, but that wasn't the case. Times were different back then. Hard to say. His songs, back then, were kind of a throw-back.

  • @patrickmullen4499

    For stories by Chris dd Burgh You should listen to The Traveller, Crusader, or any if his trilogies The leader, the vision, what about me: Revolution, Light a fire, Liberty; Even Mirror of the Soul is pretty good. Even when you get through those there are loads more brilliant stories he has created that i think you'd like.
