Meanwhile Journey was a sleepwalk gig for him. He can do so much more as a “drummer” and already has. True master musician. Journey was lucky to have him.
Damn these guys were tight back then. The hours of practice are so obvious. World class musicians, insanely talented song writers, on top of the world.
Steve Perry Is The Voice…PERIOD !!! No Other Vocalist Compares Or Is Even In Mr. Perry’s League !!!! Thanks For The Great Memories Steve, You’re It Mate !!!!
Might want to watch/listen to Deen Castronovo play drums and sing this song followed by "Still They Ride." ua-cam.com/video/BHz3cFugehM/v-deo.htmlsi=wBeFsfPcIyw9AMO6
That is truth. Smith & Valory provide incredibly complex power and architecture. Every nuance is so key. Their contribution can't be overstated. Espcially with so many Journey members over the years- there is a reason that these 5 are considered THE classic Journey lineup. Escape Tour-hands down iconic. I hope they realize that even though the spotlight lingered on Perry, Cain & Schon - the songs just don't happen without Smith & Valory.
Journey had so much Heart and Soul for a Rock band. All the members gave something to the group but steve brought it every time. Thee best singer in rock n roll history....period.
Had??? You know they never stopped, they’re on lollapalooza right now. Yes Steve perry is not with, but Arnel pineada is amazing and adds something different, but they never stopped. That being said I get where your coming from they are an amazing group.
Mary Ann Geyer you've got that right! Journey were big back in the day. They broke the mid of a lot of 80's rockers. Steve had a very huge and wide range when he was young. He had a similar vocal range to Jon Bon Jovi, and some female rockers like Pat Benatar and Ann Wilson. I've always thought Journey and Heart sound the same. I would have really loved hearing Steve Perry and Ann Wilson sing a duet back in the 80's.
I agree angelia he deserved a break he gave it his all and I believe he was the best front man this world has and will ever see and his new album is epic.
Journey was one of the original super groups that most don't realize. Journey members are from Neal Schon-"Santana",Jonathan Cain-"The Babys",Steve Smith-"Montrose",Ross Valory-"Steve Miller Band", and Steve Perry's voice-gift from "God"! All of them always consummate pro's.
Just look at the utter JOY on these guys faces!!!!! Holy moly they are FUN to watch!!! And LOOK AT ROSS VALORY. You could turn the sound OFF and still follow the song just from looking at him. He doesn't feel the beat, he IS the beat. And the harmonies. They could ALL SING. This band is PHENOMENAL.
Damn proud to say I was rockin to this multi talented band since their beginning, and sitting up late decades later rockin to then now. Steve Perry's voice is Amazing , gives me warm shivers 😘❤️❤️
Ever hear a silky smooth SONIC BOOM?!? - Steve's vocal on this song is it!! Neal's guitar is amazing - this entire concert CD is out of this world great!
I found the Journey Live In Houston Concert CD at WallMart for $7. Its my favorite summertime cruising CD for my 80s G Body classics. It almost feels like I'm back there again.
I have watched him in concert since 77. long hair, short hair, permed hair really long hair and short hair again. and every show was just like this. he was all over the place. people behind the stage were even able to see him. he never left anyone out. 15 concerts with steve and I don't think I ever thought he looked out of breath and I always wondered, "how in the hell can you not pass out due to lack of oxygen."
If you're new to Steve Perry-led Journey, locate full-length feature documentary and concert dvd from their Frontiers tour. Takes you on a journey from the beginning of their tour (Perry donning a mustache) to 70k fans in Philadelphia. It's made by NFL Films.
One of the best things about going to see Journey back then, other than excellent music, Steve Perry is all over the stage. It was so much fun, just watching him was well worth the money for a ticket.
I saw the doc.'Directors cut " last night and what I understand from it is, that the journey band is just like an old couple.Meaning ,there were some good drift and there were more tumultuous times as everyone had to find there place. But above all, In the end it evolved and proved to be a legacy . The cost paid from all the members had a great price .When you think about it ,You"ll find that ,to construct something that survives time you have to invest yourself no matter what....Journey is just like the great ones, such as Pink floyd ,Led zepplin and jimmy hendrick. You have your own Place into the music world.Thank"s a bunch...
denis amiot well said Dennis they're definitely a legend right up there with the great ones just like you said and that's where they deserve to be could you imagine Journey fans would react if they did a reunions tour with Steve Perry Oh my God that would be something to see
They are good together, no doubt. But they needed Steve and he needed them to get what they were after....SUCCESS. To me, Steve is the best. Always will love his voice and energy
I remember when Journey hit the charts, Steve Perry's voice was the only reason I stuck with their music. He made Journey one of the best bands to come around and their music has always been awesome. Adam Lambert is close, but, no one can sing Journey's songs like Steve Perry. He made the sound of Journey💯💯💯
I saw this tour and it was great but Frontiers blew it away, it was a huge production and they had a great opener, Bryan Adams he had Cuts like a Knife out which was a huge album also and I was really impressed with his band, they were loud as hell, I love it!! I miss the old days of Journey, wish things didn't have to change so much, but time changes some people and others it doesn't.
I saw this band perform a few times in stadium events and they really were one of the better shows. Steve was dancing all over the stage and Neal and Johnathan gave it 110%.
Whewwww!!! Woeeewww!!! Dreaming of this concert all of them at their best, I'm a big fan of this band steve p. Neal schon Jonathan cain Ross valory Steve smith
A page right out of my youth, I saw this exact same tour at the Omni in Atlanta just a couple weeks later, Steve Perry was even wearing the same shirt. Loverboy opened for them. I was just 16 and the world was still a big mystery to explore, how I wish I had a time machine!!
I haven't heard this song for a long time but I know it was the first song that Jonathan, Neal, and Steve wrote together. Must have been a very exciting night for Jonathan Cain.
That, ladies & gentlemen is NOT auto tune
It's way better than Auto tune by a long shot.
No auto tune there, no need and no chance. He's just that good.
😂😂😂omg can’t breathe! (Because it’s so true!)
No pro tools either
Totally agree
This is the band firing on all cylinders. Pure fire.
Literally WIDE OPEN!!! 🤘🏼🎶
The HD remaster is helping a LOT. But still awesome.
When music and concerts were the BEST!!!!
That shirt is just the best. Should be in The Hall of Fame. 💕
I think it actually might be in a rock museum
My favorite shirt!!
I've been saying that for a long time! It needs to be in the Smithsonian!!!
i wish you can buy it
@@richzitani5448 Me, too! Yellow is not my color, but I'd make an exception in this case and wear the heck out of it!
Steve Smith is a Monster on the drums!!!
Oh God yes, his energy is off the charts and so beautifully creative!
Meanwhile Journey was a sleepwalk gig for him. He can do so much more as a “drummer” and already has. True master musician. Journey was lucky to have him.

Schon ain't no joke...A geetar prodigy at 14 ...Played for Satana
Doesn't get much tighter than Steve Smith
Schon also played for Clapton
@@jonp4846 steve Smith is one bitching ass drummer. Twirls his sticks with both hands.
-steve perry !- 🔥 🤘 💯
My uncle was the one of the cameraman and he said that Steve ate an entire bag of Oreo cookies and that's why he was dancing like a 10 year old
Lol!
😂😅🥰
Lol. Well back then at that age ya can eat what ya want and not worry about gaining lol. He's pretty thin here
Maybe you can tell us why Steve was wearing a female blouse??

The way Steve Smith and Ross Valory lock in together is severely underrated.
Steve Smith is such an underrated rock drummer.
Agree totally on both comments!
That is truth. Smith & Valory provide incredibly complex power and architecture. Every nuance is so key. Their contribution can't be overstated. Steve Perry has it all. Talent, charisma and of course he iso handsome ❤️
And high waisted stone washed jeans. Look out ladies.
_sexy gorgeous_ 🥰
And those tight jeans
Such a God given voice. No equal. Very few people have this talent. My hero is Steve Perry!
Hello, how are you doing today? Nice meeting you here.
I love the way they harmonize. They're truly one of the best bands ever!
Com certeza!
Man this song is criminally underrated.
Journey had so much Heart and Soul for a Rock band. All the members gave something to the group but steve brought it every time. Thee best singer in rock n roll history....period.

One of the GREATEST ROCK BANDS...EVER!!!

Yeah Joan Jett made Rolling Stone Mag's top 100 guitarists. Neil did not. Neither did Gary Richrath from REO. Lame azz Rolling Stone Mag.
Absolutely
Absolute beast of a guitarist but his ego has gotten in the way as of late.
Neal loves him some Neal
I think he was born with a guitar in his hands!
Unreal voice. Just the best rock voice ever.

He is the greatest voice of all time
Steve was already 29 when he joined Journey. In this, 3 years later, he is 32.
I'm not surprised he retired and just wants to rest! He left NOTHING on stage-every performance was EPIC! 💓

Epic? More like the perfect cure for insomnia.
Here, Perry is amazing. Now? Hell, he makes Tony Bennett look like heavy metal.
Neal's playing is superb! He is a guitar legend!
For those who thinks Steve Perry only sings ballads and slow songs...this song shows he can holler.
You need to listen to Dixie Highway.
Listen the live album Captured , it's on fire.
He's the sweetest and smoothest rock God ❤️
Keep on Rolling is the awsome song of Steve and Journey, this song makes me happy and rockin, you go Journeys fans!!!
