Loki, has shown up from time to time in my life.
He is actually the guy you really enjoy being around because he is fun, like a magician, but you always know that no mater what he says, he won't be there when you need him.

While I take my dogs out, I look up and just thank Odin the allfather for my life and blessing me with life. Ik it’s not perfect or a real offering but it makes me feel good just thanking him. Like giving my dad a hug in a sense

I'd imagine he'd be there looming back and say "thank yourself, it's your life" and then proceed to suggest you doing something in a long round about way just for shots and giggles.
(I say this because I recall in one of the stories he takes disgust as a ferryman and tells Thor to walk around the -I wanna describe it as a lake, I don't recall the correct word sorry- for no reason other than to watch him do it. -again at least my understanding of the story...)

    Offering ideas:
Freyr- apples, whole wheat stuff, corn, nuts, pork. Appreciating nature. Putting your grudges aside and dedicating a day to peace.
Loki- anything high sugar content or cinnamon flavored. Pranks. Spider drawings (the more poorly drawn the better). Cheesy jokes.
Frigg- anything spun like wool or woven yarn or something like that. Apparently she weaves the clouds. Also cleaning up in honor of her. Keeping together family bonds.
Mani- Jasmine tea, anything jasmine. Moonstone. Just your time.

Freya was the first goddess I ever gave an offering too, I built an alter to her and brought her spring flowers of many different colors, it was a life changing moment in my life.

When I was reading into old practices, I was reminded that faith (trú) was never separated from day to day tasks and the word only appeared after Christian influence; what I took from that historical context is that every action we take is infused with belief/intention. Let’s say, I’m cleaning my kitchen, I’m also cleaning thinking of health and wellness and it’s connection to Eir.
I think I frequently offer but as a “thank you”. During holidays I’ll give my boasts, toasts and oaths or ask for fruitful seasons but acknowledging what I have around me and my own capabilities through practice and wisdom is the intent behind my frequent/out of season offerings - ie almost any time I bake, I’m sharing my best of the batches. For hokunnot, the gods got some fucken sick lavender and vanilla cupcakes with Meade- like a massive pride of mine - and it seems to have gone over well.
TL;DR - I offer my baking or crafts and honour the gods with reflection in every day tasks.

This is basically how I do it. I don't feel the need to have an alter or anything like that. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having one mind! Everyone can honour the Gods how they feel best 😊
But I give myself as the offering so to speak. At work I push myself as if in a gym, always do that little bit extra or go out of my way for a customer. I pick up litter some mornings on route to work to show appreciation for the world around me. And a number of other things too I just don't want to come across like I'm saying I'm holyer than thou 😂
But through my life and actions, my footprint on the world and the people I meet, that's how I honour the Gods and give thanks.

These are great suggestions. For Freyja I have offered sparkling wine and cat whiskers that I find. Cats shed these and I have 2. Tyr to me shows great bravery. Especially in protecting someone or defending. As for Loki I never ever ever think of him in any type of darkness. To me he's a positive force. I absolutely hate the personification of him by Marvel/Disney+. It's insulting by every means. I don't trust anything that is written and/or translated by a christian and that includes Snorri. So I read it with a grain of salt. My offering to Loki is sharing a glass of scotch. Have a conversation. Being myself. Read everything I can get a hold of. Have a sense of humor and love life..... Sorry about the rant.😔

There is quite a divide in the faith over Loki veneration, I discuss this in detail in a video I made during Loki week. Even in the Poetic Edda Loki is a mixed bag, sometimes helping other times harming.
In fact I would say some of the most charming Loki stories actually come from the Prose Edda. Utgarda-Loki and the tale of the One Ring and the Otter, are some of the most positive Loki stories we have.
In Mathias Nordvigs introduction to Asatru he writes that he always gives an offering to Loki before other Gods to insure that the gift makes it to the right place. It also is a way to continue to hold the oath between Odin and Loki that Odin will not drink if Loki is not allowed to. This is probably the thing I connect to the most because it is based in the mythology to some degree.
I am not sure we will see a time that Loki veneration is not polarizing, but I am glad it seems you have a positive relationship with him 🍻

my natural instinct when making an offering to the gods is digging a fire pit and drumming/singing/dancing/cooking food. (pagan bbq) my experience is after spending a night of singing the praises of the gods, they will show an omen to you in time if they answer you or not.

Heimdall connected to me during my field Exercise in the Army recently. He came to me in the form of a thunderstorm in my sleep. Granted this felt like Thor for a second until what he said to me, “ go to the halls of Valhalla in the city of Monru there you will find what you seek “ that phrase was spoken to me and I asked my friend who has been a Pagan longer than me and I asked him what it meant. Right now me and my wife learning about becoming modern nomads. We feel pulled by Odin to wander and learn more on the road and find our best selves. We are currently looking for a bus or big van to convert ourselves into a mobile home. This whole adventure we will be doing will be in honor of the Wanderer, the One Eye, Grimmnir, Wotan, Woden, Odin...

for me, frigg is closely associated with the home. keeping a tidy space, cultivating a cozy and welcoming environment, and being a thoughtful hostess are ways I have honored her. For offerings, I buy and burn nice woodsy scented candles and offer things related to the strong women in my family/matrilineal family line. For example, many women of my family sent flowers when I had surgery. i dried those, stored them with salt (which I use for protection) and have offered that to great result. I also have good results with a beautiful tarot deck that I dedicated to her.

I like to give Freya fresh flowers from my garden, fresh wild herbs like catnip and chamomile, fresh fruits like cherries and oranges, and wine. I am more "witchy" with my offerings and light sweet smelling incense and meditate on my past behavior and the days to come. I've been in a difficult rut in my life recently and Lady Freya brings me peace.

Loki loves sweets! Candy, cakes, pies. Brownies, especially! Cookies, things like that. I was giving my kids animal crackers and Nilla wafers one day. I snagged one for myself and as I went to put the bag away my ears started ringing loudly and I was hit with a small bout of vertigo. I asked, "did you want one, Loki?", and it immediately stopped. So I left some as an offering in my little spot for him on my bookshelf beside my bed. I also often share little treats I buy myself with him.
He also seems to really like gifts given to him by children. (He is the parent of 6.) Kids toys, cheap McDonald's toys, etc.
And apparently cinnamon or fire whiskey/alcohol is a winner too. Also mead.
Also, yes. Oddities are always fun. I work with pizza dough so on occasion I'll offer a little wad of dough for him to play with while I'm working.
He's kind of a big kid, really. But he does have a serious side. If you are in emotion pain, talk to him, (or Fenrir. Pain is a good offering for Fenrir, as is meat,) he will listen and may even try to cheer you up. He's actually a pretty good listener.

I've found I feel best giving offerings of things I enjoy and want to share because the gods may appreciate something from me that I enjoy myself. I can't poour anything out outside so I do have to use indoor settings like sinks, but the meaning is there. I did manage to get help giving a gift of pumpkin seeds to Huginn and Muninn recently, just because I love them and wanted to offer Odin's ravens something nice. I only really ever offered Tyr mead once as a shot, but, the gods seem to appreciate when you share with them. If it's something you enjoy and you even THINK they might appreciate it, don't hesitate. In my experiences they're very understanding of circumstances.

  • @mrwebbofficial

Imagine if a shit ton of people started giving you funeral flowers, memorials and eulogies but you’re still alive. I don’t think I’d like that much. Not too sure Baldur would either. Seems about as silly as people wearing the Roman execution device around their neck when worshiping Jesus.
I would also think that if I was the god of the ocean, a whole bunch of people giving me a bunch of stuff that I already have would get old too. I would be like
“Yah I already have a billion seashells, my whole domain is full of them. Why not give me a cow or something. Or like maybe a fucking tree. We don’t have anything like that down here.” Lol
But on a serious note, last summer I made a hand carved set of runes and I suddenly felt compelled to give them to Frigg. So I buried it in my back yard, and built a fire pit over it.
I gifted the rune set to Frigg not asking for anything in return. I had never given anything to Frigg before or even talked to her at all. And about a week later I got a call from someone who found out I was an IT Professional and they were desperately in need of me right at that moment. I got to name my price because nobody wants to work anymore it seems.
I used to run an IT business but the pandemic ended that so I was starting to run out of money from my savings account. I hadn’t even started looking for a job at that time and it just fell in my lap.
So I gave Frigg my best ever carved rune set and she gave me a job. Haven’t really done any practice sense then because I follow the philosophy of not overburdening with gifts. I also work to be as self-reliant as possible and never grovel at an alter begging for shit. But I know where it came from and I am grateful.
Therefore I publicly acknowledge Frigg and the gift that she gave me.
    HAIL FRIGG!!!

Thank you for this video, Jacob. I appreciate your help in the revivification of this beautiful faith.
Knowing that Ansuz is the rune of the Allfather, I choose to honor Odin by working on my grammar in speaking and writing. I work by reducing verbal crutches such as, "like" and "you know" that I find replete in modern English speakers.
I honor Jord by composting and recycling. It could be considered an offering to her as well, since the compost leaches into the soil.

Not everyone ends up in either Hel or Vallhalla... if I remember correctly there are at least a couple other places depending on the circumstance.
I mean the worst possible fate I'd imagine is becoming a Draugr (not sure if I used the right world) a reanimated body that had an unpleasant death or unfinished business (I may be slightly off in my interpretation of it... if so please correct me I'm still new...) but yea to wander Midgard after death as a decomposing corpse is not something I wish my loved ones to have to worry about... (probably won't ever happen but hey you never know considering what's going on today)
But yea the two fates after death I truly wish never to happen on myself or anyone are becoming a Draugr (again might not be the exact word I'm thinking king of) or even being a corpse on the back/wings of Niddhoggr awaiting ragnarok

I wish to thank you for this channel for it is very helpful for me as support while i read the Eddas. I was born male at birth I now identify as Non-binary. I know Loki is known as to transfigure into a mare to give birth to slepnir, and has given birth to Jormangandur and Hel. I dedicate my time and energy to learning about the old Norse ways and my family lineage. I have spent tons of hours on mysticism and healing plants, and I smoke my tobacco pipe as an offering to the Allfather. My paternal lineage has always been comprised of men who placed great value on knowledge, learned experiences (f around and find out), and the preservation of traditions. We don't slay animals in the name of the Gods, but we have our own rituals that are kept very close to the heart.

Some really cool suggestions, thank you. I would like to ask though, what about herbs? Are you aware of specific herbs that would resonate with different Gods? When it comes to plant life, the only one I feel sure about, in a negative way, is mistletoe for Baldr. They're connected, but tragically. I can't imagine him liking that.

This is a wonderful video, thank you for showing us your personal rituals and offerings.
I am new to Norse paganism, and I have a technical question. So say I leave an offering of meat, or a shot of alcohol on an altar. How do I properly and respectfully dispose of the offering when I’m done? Is it seen as disrespectful to throw the meat away? Should I eat it? I don’t want it to seem like I’m taking the offering away after giving it.

As a Norse pagan form east asia, it lack of information.
And I afraid of gods or this community won't accept a asian like me.
I'm truly believe in and respect all gods in asgurd, and I really felt some strong connecting with gods.
Sorry about my bad english and grammar.

I know we have very little sources on certain offerings but we can use our own intuition to offer the gods. I give grain to Odin for Hugin and Munin and meat for his wolves. For Freyja for some reason anything pink or red but Cowslip is her sacred flower but Marigolds are also great, for me I give her anything that rabbits or hares I do not know why but obviously cat tokens and sheds of cat claws and fur and weaving. Also I place my jewelry on her altar for safekeeping. She also loves songs in my experience especially love songs. I dedicate certain acts for offerings like weaving again and spell work for both Freyja and Odin sometimes Thor as well.

As a veteran of the US Infantry, I am drawn more heavily towards the warrior culture of this faith, and as such I venerate Odin more than anyone (though this is also from a wisdom and learning perspective as well), and feel a connection with Thor and, recently, Tyr. I usually provide fresh fruits and either mead or whiskey to the Gods, and follow their examples as much as I can. I plan on making a ritual of carving Teiwaz into the stock of my rifle and sharpening my knives and axe for the three of them. Hope this helps fellow veterans find their way in this faith!

Well, after I end the ritual I just let the offering there for like an hour or so then I eat it.
I mean, they ain't gonna make it "desapear" so i might just have to do it lol
And I never feel like they're angry at me by doing so.
For me whats really important on an offering is the intention you put on it rather then what you end up doing with it after the ritual's over.

As long as your heart is in the right place and not full of selfish deceit, Odin will even accept a bowl of soup and crackers. A god would rather have a poor gift given from the heart than an expensive one only meant to flatter.

  • @DaanSnqn
    @DaanSnqn 2 роки тому +1

15:50, You say you don't honor or venerate, but how do you deal with him while giving to Óðinn? From Lokasenna, we know that Loki is always automatically invited to drink as well when Óðinn has a drink. So if you give Óðinn an offering, Loki is there as well.

You’re missing some really key things lol…… I’m sure you can’t mention them on UA-cam.
however a lot of your ideas are great.
Keep at this man, they will keep steering you.
Best advice I can give is try to view your ideas on “what would they have liked during their cultural time period”
    Like brass, gold, sheep wool.
    Instead of say, roses….
But good stuff man! Keep it up.
