I've had the HSBC Premier Elite card for a couple of years. I could never understand why it wasn't more popular. One additional perk for the Premier Elite card is that if you have a mortgage, RRSP or account with 100K in assets with HSBC you get $49 waived every year. So with the annual $100 travel credit it's actually a no fee card.
It's getting even better now !! Apply before December 28 2020 and the Welcome bonus is 100 000 pts (or 130 000 pts for Quebec residents) !! Ketching !!
@@PrinceofTravel Just received my 110 000 points. Total is now 775$ in rewards waiting to travel, can't wait to use it ! keep up sharing about those good deals. Thanks !
Thanks for the video. What is the main difference between the World Elite and the Premier World Elite. Also, travel insurance only if under 65. Any cards that over coverage for us more mature travellers lol
Thanks Ricky. I just got approved for 10K credit limit. My understanding is, if I am eyeing BA, HSBC WEMC is much better than RBC Avion Visa Infinite, right? 2.4x vs. 1.25x on travel, 1.2x vs. 1x on everything else.
Those were extermely pointed remarks. We're all glad you can right to the point(s). I just want a card I can count on overseas. I assume that if there is no transaction fee the company make money on the currency exchange rate. I don't remember the foreign currency exchange rate being mentioned.
i applied simply cash preferred for 10% cash back first 4000 dollar. for my wife simply cash refer . 75 dollar extra. i like cash better than points. but i will apply this wemc before 12.28 for paying next year property tax.
it is just another td first class credit card. almost same rule . 200 point for 1 dollar redemption. 3 point for 1 dollar spending, 6 points in travle(td is 9). but has 100 dollar to redeem. and can be used in costco
I have this card since 2018 (when they offered 75K points as sign up bonus) and like it despite a few issues. Last January I transferred all my points to Asia Miles so I could get a Qatar business class HND-DOH-MIA in December, hopefully things will be back to normal by then.
I got offered this card when I moved to Canada from the UK since HSBC was my main bank ... when i applied here they gave me a 26k credit limit just like that ... I fear this card lol but very fortunate to have it .... point system is not the best ... and i still prefer my AMEX Platinum and Gold Cards
Sweet, good for you! Another point I could've included in the video is how great HSBC is for existing customers in other countries who are moving to Canada and/or Canadians who are moving abroad. Similar to Amex Global Transfer in that regard, as you've discovered!
Awesome video, glad I finally found someone who talks about CANADIAN credit cards instead of all the typical American ones! Btw, what would you say is the #1 (or top 3) credit cards in Canada right now for travel/cashback?
Credit Card Portfolio Amex Platinum TD Aeroplan Visa Amex Cobalt -can convert MR points to either aeroplan or avios points or delta airlines HSBC World Elite Mastercard -can convert HSBC points to avios british airline points RBC Westjet World Elite Mastercard -can convert westjet dollars into delta airlines Would you get the HSBC world elite Mastercard or the RBC westjet world elite Mastercard to complete the credit card portfolio?
Good video except: 1) you neglected to mention the minimum income requirement of $80,000, and 2) you mentioned the 31 day emergency medical benefit, without saying that it only applies to those under 65. In other words, if you're 65+, you get nothing.
Quality content man! I enjoy it, you do a fantastic job at explaining the program in the simplest way possible, if someone watches this and STILL doesn't understand, then they are straight up DUMB 😂. Keep up the good work, stay safe. 👍👍
Hey Ricky! Awesome video as always! I was just curious from a points perspective, why would you choose to carry this card and the RBC Avion? Just since both have annual fees and for me personally, I feel beyond an Amex card, you only need one Non-Amex card for purchases at Costco or for when they do not accept Amex.
Ricky Z - have we met before? 😉 I probably wouldn't hold onto both in the long term, but would instead product switch the RBC Avion to a different card while cancelling the HSBC before the first year is up and maybe applying again when the elevated offer returns.
@@PrinceofTravel Haha having similar names just makes you even more of an idol to me! You should come to Toronto so we can meet up! This video really does have perfect timing since I am currently looking for a long term Mastercard for Costco purchases. Hope you and your family are doing well!
another great video Ricky! I actually applied for the card via your web page about 5 days ago due to the sign up bonus. A quick question for you. How can the $100 travel enhancement credit be obtained? Say if I make a reservation with best western and pay the fee with HSBC W.E., do I have to do anything for the $100 travel enhancement credit to be posted to the credit card statement?
You'll go into your HSBC dashboard, click the "Redeem $100 Travel Enhancement Credit" link, and they'll give you a list of eligible transactions to redeem it against. That's where you'll do it 👌🏼
You should be able to, although I haven't seen any confirmed data points. In any case the $100 is pretty easy to redeem - even Aeroplan/Avios taxes and fees, or any booking on Expedia, will count.
As you mentioned, it's not that the card is bad. It's pretty great overall The issue is that HSBC are a bit of a Mickey Mouse operation. I personally find it shocking that HSBC cant approve people properly and get itself caught up in how or whom to approve. I've heard of all kinds of denials, of people having to go into different branches and trying to get their documents approved, calling and hanging up. Or people receiving denials in branch getting a card in the mail. Truly a gongshow especially during a pandemic As detailed in Season 1 Episode 3 of Dirty Money on Netflix (a great Quarantine show), HSBC literally laundered Mexican Cartel money by forwarding it to terrorist organizations like Hezbollah, Lashkar e Taiba, and Islamic Jihad. They were then intelligent enough to get a briefcase brigade of lawyers to avoid prosecution in exchange for an enormous fine. Despite this they cant even give people their cards who apply online Oh well, morality aside, brb guess I'm applying when my Transunion recovers
Finally someone does a review of this card! Been trying to find out more about this card for a while. Thank you!
My pleasure Tim! Let me know if there are any other cards you're curious about.
Prince of Travel what are your thoughts about Tangerine credit card
@@kid20777 Good for cash back, not great for travel

My god dude. This is a perfect review! Minimal takes, in-depth but superbly clear and concise. Thanks so much!
This is our everyday card as we travel and it's all thanks to you!! Thanks for doing what you're doing Ricky, we need it :)
Is the income requirement of $80K compulsory to apply for any of these World Elite Cards?

And the 100$ credit is really easy to use. No need to upgrade a flight .... booking an hotel in Tremblant with Expedia does it for me.
Applied and approved with $7k limit!
Glad to hear it! Instant approval with this card is a lucky charm :)

I'm surprised they set the income requirement as low as $80k for their top of the line card.

Correct - but you can probably cycle through RBC's signup bonuses faster, so as always, it's worth playing both sides.
I turned 18, 10 days ago. Got my first credit card hopefully this is my next or after a few. Thanks man

Can u use the points for statement credit instead of flights
This card is no longer available. If you were holding any HSBC card in Canada, you would have gotten the RBC card by now
Sign up bonus is down to 40,000 HSBC Rewards for Non-Quebec. :( I guess I'll wait for now.

Great video. I love this card and waiting patiently to get to Jade status. And yes, this card is very underrated.
Can the $100 travel enhancement credit be used on AirBnB bookings?
So which would u recommend HSBC world elite or the rbc avion? I've been with TD for a very long time and find the first class card useless
Definitely worth signing up... thanks for that review and all the details!

Thanks for another great informational video. Do you know any downgrade or product change options for this card? thanks
I'm not sure about this one - someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe there are any.
You didn't mention that sometimes they have transfer bonuses. I got one when I transferred to Avios last year.
