Thanks for the informative and professional content! A was lucky seeing the title - I am just about to build small network using LTE connection - than became a bit disappointed hearing it is just for V1 models. (I have V4 :/) I am eagerly waiting the stable version for the rest of versions of MR6400.
Thanks for the comment. I found a build gamwe6 for MR6400 V4, you can try it as your own risk github.com/gamwe6/openwrt-tplink-tl-mr6400-v4/releases/tag/v20210609 Regarding the official stable release, I am have no idea if it will be available or not since the router only has Fast Ethernet ports and Developers are moving to devices with higher specs.
Sorry for pumping up this comment. I just checked the openwrt's doc and now V1, V4 and V5 of the MR6400 are supported. Are you still using the old device or already upgraded to a new one?
@@VanTechCorner hi, I am also interested on running openWRT on a a couple of these routers, mine are v5 hardware versions. However, it seems like the LTE modem is not supported by default by even the latest (23.05.0) version of openWRT. I also read on the version-specific wiki that I should follow some "QMI mode" for the WAN connection. Is this the way to go?
I have a V5 hardware that i think is supported today. But when i tftp it tp my tp_recovery.bin seems like it's not connecting to my Host computer.. already tried Windows and Ubuntu 20.04 host pc.. Windows not showing lan connected, Ubuntu not showing anything either (already check dmesg and settings). Do i need to use a network switch to force the interface up?
help, my router has that led that lights up when you plug in the pc, but it lights up without plugging in the wire and when you try to connect to the phone, you can't get dhcp and some ports can't provide dhcp except for one port that works
Help me out, I'm having a problem with flashing via tftp. I have model MR6400 v5.20, I've been following OpenWRT guide and this video but nothing seems to be transfering via tftp when I restart my router (on the site it's written that i should hold reset for at least 8 second, i've tried holding it exactly 8 sec, more than 8 sec, nothing worked so far). Do you mind taking a look please I hate the original firmware cause bufferbloat is such a pain in the ass.
@@titoteisto thank you kind man, I've got it flashed now, but there is a new problem where I can't flash it back to original firmware. But that problem isn't affecting me much, after all OpenWRT is running perfectly.

Just follow your procedure unfortuantely within tftpf64 .... i never got a connection on the server while powering on the Router with the reset button pressed for at least 5 second. I also disabled the firewall just in case. any suggestion ?
Hello, my video is only for the Hw Ver 1. If you have a different hardware version, you need to follow the guide on the OpenWrt website for that specific hw ver.
How can I revert to the original version? I don't understand why, when I cut 131,584 bytes from a file of about 50MB, it ends up being only 8MB? Thank you very much
The installation method is the same, but you need to complie the firmware or find it own your own (there are dev who is shared the firmware on hit github)
Hi, great article ! Thanks ! Do you know any other modem / router supporting openWRT (or openTPMTCProuter)? For example Netgear D7000 ? If they would support this I could dismiss the Raspberry Pi4B that I'm using now to run openTPMTCProuter for dual internet aggregation. Thanks
Hi, are you talking about routers support OpenWRT with 4G module built-in, just like this TL-MR6400? If yes, you can look at the TOTOLINK LR1200 or using a 4G LTE USB modem with any OpenWRT routers which have a USB port.
Hi, sorry for the late response. When you are using a LTE/ cellular connection, the ISP will assign a private IP instead of a public IP address and NAT is impossible. Thefore, there is no way to setup a Wireguard VPN server with the LTE connection. If you are talking about Wireguard VPN client, you can check this video ua-cam.com/video/0_zQAp3V18c/v-deo.html
Thanks for that video. I've tried your everything but no luck.. Then resarched again and found on Windows10 you have to enable CTCP for working this flash. Otherwise it doesnt work. For anyone who has difficulties try to make sure that your CTCP is enabled. If its not find way to enable it!
