I've been working professionally in polymer clay for about 20 years and out of all my tools I have two very expensive items, my LucyClay extruder and my custom built pasta roller, but the rest are random tools that aren't even made to working with clay. Dental, nail art, wood working, painting (so many textures or paint brushes), color blenders, ball tools, cake decorating, and various sizes of X-Acto blades since the blades are sold in bulk cheap and make it so much work so much easier. Oh and a few of my husbands tools, but shhhhh he hasn't noticed yet. lol I do have the straight flexible blades as those are a must as well as corn starch. Corn starch is amazing for keeping your clay from sticking to your surface and keeping it from getting finger prints. Rubbing alcohol is also a great tool as it can remove finger prints, dust or other mistakes from the surface of unbaked clay. But be careful and only use a little at a time as it breaks down the clay, but it really can save a piece. You don't have to use acrylic as your base, I use a 12x12 scrapbook glass mat and for smaller pieces I use cheap 4x4 porcelain tiles from the hardware store. And last but most important, buy the coolest, brightest, most fun set of bandaids (plasters) you can! Because even after 20 years I still cut my self at least once a week! lol Being passionate and professional hasn't made me any less clumsy! lol
Hi Claire, I was watching your video about the polyemer clay with the chemelion powders and tried to find it on my phone, this is the closest I could find. You said you thought your clay had gone off and was crumbly. It gets that way but you can put baby oil or even hand lotion in it and it brings it back to workable. It doesn't go bad (in my experience) and I've used years old clay just fine. Hope this helps
Beautiful Claire. The depth is amazing. 😊😊😊
Get yourself a large ceramic tile Claire, it works a treat for working on, even for baking on as well. Great job, loved watching this video xx
I love these. The ones with the gears are lovely they look like a picture. Excellent!!!
They look smashing! The resin takes them to another level!
Oh WOW!!!! These are really cool. Love the green ones.
Stop it! My heart is popping!!! I love ❤ love these!
So glad you’re so excited & happy‼️ Really cool stuff 🤩
I love that you're doing this! I am interested in polymer clay too, and have stocked several supplies for it, including a pasta roller. But I haven't dived in yet. There's no one I'd rather have teach me than you❤️
Same here Pam. I don't know why I haven't started playing with the Polymer clay I bought, but when I do, I have everything already 😂
I love watching your process. As you were working, I was saying leave the keys in! Lol
I can understand why you love these they are fabulous ❤
Yeah it needs to be bendy for smooth/rounded cuts. If your clay doesn't want to come up easy you can always pop it on the freezer for a bit.
I've done polymer clay stuff semi-seriously for nearly 20 years, and I still occasionally cut myself. 😂
Btw, I use ceramic tiles or glass to work my clay on. Some plastics turn sticky because of the clay softeners, and you can even bake your pieces on the tile, so if your clay is soft, it won't bend while moving it on a separate baking sheet.
Also, I love these!
And now that the video is finished, I use both UV resin, epoxy resin and polyurethane varnish to finish my pieces. I've had trouble with the UV resin bending some of the thinner pieces, but I need to switch brands to see if that was the issue.
@@Leena79 I've had so so luck with UV resin - bending and feeling tacky. I think unless it's being held down securely in a mold it will bend. Also, mixing the resin in the bottle helped with tackiness. Last piece I made actually turned out okay.
@@Leena79 That would be interesting to manipulate that effect to something useful, kind of like slumping polymer clay like one does glass. TY for the info!
Love them and yes!! I see the Alien connection (also my fav film of all time)
Ahhhh, as u placed the metal cog, I said, leave it, and u did. LOVE THESE😊
I just watched this video-you WOWED me- how much fun this is going to be🙂I loved them - beautiful- thank you for sharing ❤️
Cornstarch really helps with clay sticking. Just brush it off the clay before baking. Looks great.
I use oven bags when baking clay in the oven. You know the sort that you can roast a chook in? Can just buy in the supermarket, then you dont have to clean your oven Claire xo
Meant to say you bake on tray on top of baking paper and then place tile in the oven bag. And yes I have cut myself, getting creative with the super sharp blades. Claire I love your videos and your beautiful child-like enthusiasm its😍 such a joy
Those are all really cool! I especially love the one with the gear and the key left in!!
Loved everything about this video, thanks for the great ideas!
Love these. I’m glad we all have that “to finish” box. Mine is getting pretty full 🤣
Love them Claire Thanks Debby
Claire you never disappoint ❤
I have no words either!!!!!😍😍😍😍
Claire, you've got such an awesome imagination. I love these.
these are just brilliant , i have not used this clay before but i want to try this out now as i love them and that silver paste you used it the best
love these. So cool. Thanks for sharing.
I love these, last thing I need is another crafting project!! 🤪🤣🫶🏼
I'm not a steampunk person but I do love the technique you have done ! Lovely
GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS, GORGEOUS!!!
These have such a WOW factor!!! I LOVE them all!!! I think the circles with the metal pieces and the square are my favorites!! Thank you so much for this!!!
⚙️🪙💙💜💚🪙⚙️
Claire these are really next level and I am completely inspired!!❤
Love Steampunk ❤️
Those are so cool and I do love the letter one the best. You always amaze me with your talent. Thanks for being you ❤
They turned out awesomely especially the key and cog 😍
that was a very interesting video Claire love the pigments and resin finish gooooooo girl
Claire this is absolutely amazing 😊
Love the colors!
Bravo 👏🏻 those are gorgeous ❤
I love the colours. xx
I never have worked with gray I do love those
🎉These are absolutely awesome 😊
These are so Beautiful ❤❤❤ love them 🎉🎉
I'm thinking making silicon inlays out of these before the resin goes on, would be really cool 🔥
Another great idea, Claire!
They look great Claire 🥰 Great work🤩😍
Well these are fantastic Claire💕
Those are super lovely. You have first prize if I'm a judge.
I love this and I've worked with all of these elements on their own. I love how you have brought them all together. I was thinking of doing similar, but with an air dry clay. Just to see how they turn out. I feel the same about the oven. I had put my little toaster oven in storage, so have not worked with polymer clay in a very long time. To answer your question. I simply topcoat with epoxy resin.
Hi Claire went back and watched from the start 😍 love them so muchvery cool, thanks for sharing as always ❤️ ❤❤ xxx
Absolutely beautiful work ❤
Really cool video! Loving the end pieces. You Rock!❤
Your ideas are so inspiring.X
So lovley to meet you at Makers Central at the weekend - loving your work, and I've subscribed. Hopefully we'll meet up again at one of the shows soon 🙂
Absolutely stunningly gorgeous ❤
Love the colour
These are really cool. ❤❤ them.
Ich würde sagen, Daumen hoch 👍 und ganz tolles Video 💛🫶💛
Lmao fancy you likening the clay cutter to food 😂😂 not even watched the whole video yet, and im rolling with laughter, chips 😂😂
Lovely work!!!😍
These are gorgeous! Now I am going to have to order some polymer clay. You’re getting me in trouble…😅. Thank you!
You could use them as pop sockets for your phone
They are amazing creations 💖😍 17:56
I love them all ❤
Loving these 😊
I loved this is was so relaxing to watch and listen too. and the outcomes were gorgeous. sorry you cut your finger 😱 but glad its on the mend . I am always doing it lol
11:05 hi Claire,,,,when I use to do the clay a lot, i used a big glass over my table and for me it worked better.
They are so so beautiful ! I have all the material to do these but not yet time 😂 it's in my to do list😊 I'm happy to know that you have a box with stuff to finish too!😂😂
Use some cornstarch to make things less sticky. It helps it move a lot better. I had a lot of trouble with that finger guard too, it's useless 😂. Eta: those tools with the silicone tips are great for moving resin around on your project and they're reusable.
These are great! I don't use polymer clay very much but I have sliced my finger open while filming with an xacto knife blade. It was bad and in the middle of a spot where I couldn't stop for long 🤣
Claire.. I always love your videos. If you do much polymer clay, try a firmer clay for this technique. This just seems to distort quite a bit because it's too soft. Also, you can put some cornstarch on your tile to keep it from sticking.
Have you ever put parchment paper beneath the polymer clay? (While working on it) It helps so much. You might want or need to tape the parchment paper before you use the polymer clay.
If you use a glass base rather than acrylic, you can leave the polymer clay on and bake it. Or use silicon baking sheets.
Lol, "bendy tool", you are too cute. It's called a tissue blade. I know, I know, you don't know, lmao. Love to see you having so much fun.
These are gorgeous, Claire! I wish polymer clay relaxed me.... not sp much! Resin does that for me.
I love polymer clay & use it a lot. A tip so it doesn’t stick when pressing into it: roll onto a piece of baking paper, or a silicone mat if you have one 😊🇦🇺❤️ also, wrap some foil around your paintbrush to reuse again later 😊
Cool!
Que preciosuras. Me encantaron.
Hi Claire, I am really inspired....I am working with air dry clay at the moment, because it's difficult to get fimo here in Fuerteventura. I am making marble effect on my arabic theme..... to cut the clay I am using an ordinary kitchen racloir😂
Hi Claire, WOW super funky super cool loved them thank you for sharing 👍 Claire, it would be super cool if you turned some of the pieces into necklaces 🤗 Claire, please can you tell me how long did your clay take to cook thanks ❤️
Very interesting Clairio,do you love them though
Amazing ❤
This was a fun but very informative tutorial Claire!! Loved the results. I'm new to your site and saw a video last week in which you showed square Bails with a scroll at the top. They can be glued to the back of a pendant. I can't find them on your Amazon store and hoping you could let me know where I can purchase them please. I'm from Australia. Thanks Claire 🥰🥰
Hi Claire, sorry about my msg to you, I found that it is from another person’s Tutorial 😢❤ Apologies Claire xx
Clair, push embossing folders onto your clay. Or lay the folder down and press the clay into the folder.. My friend nearly cut her finger off with one of those blades. I feel for you. I have cut fingers with blades too but that one is wicked.
Did u make these to be pendants? Did u drill holes in them? Gosh they are GORGEOUS! I've been working with clay but havent had the nerve to put them on Etsy although I have created my Etsy Months ago. Everyone say they love them...no confidence. Lol
You put the radio on, i put your videos on 😂
i would put a phone socket on them and use them that way xo thank you for your tutoral and time
What do you do with them
I didn't realize Fimo was still around, played with it 30 years ago, boy that makes me sound old. LOL
How lovely are these. Sorry about your handmade hope it's better. I love the art in these, so industrial, stamps punk.
You can use your oven for food after clay without cleaning the oven by tenting your clay items with tin foil :)
Might I suggest a toaster oven, for your clay works? P.S. They are amazing.
What about the back? Since they are kind of thick could you emboss the flip side too? Like a coin. Also do you do anything to the back to protect it? Or did I just miss that part? Anyway they are beautiful and I really don’t like steam punk. 💚
Get yourself a little toaster oven for polymer clay. Argos do them. Mine came from there ❤❤
👍
I've never used the kitchen oven - bought a small toaster oven and use that.
Missed live. Stupid coronation 😂🎉. Love em 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
❤❤❤❤
Hi Claire. I am no expert in polymer clay, but what I have used to bake it with is an old toaster oven that I got second-hand. It is now exclusively my crafting oven. That should solve the problem of not wanting to use your kitchen oven for these projects. ❤
I do the same. Just have a thermometer to be sure settings are correct or mark new ones that are. ❤
My toaster oven would singe the clay when it turned on to keep the temp correct. I found a roaster with a lid doe it perfect and they are very inexpensive. Everyone else uses toasters. I just never could.
