When people sign in videos they typically wear contrasting and plain colors to ensure the whole message is able to be received with no issues. You can tell a lot of thought went into this video by all the small details attributed to the deaf community.

Being deaf isn't a bad thing. People think they need to be fixed but they instead just suppress them with what they believe is the best thing for them rather than let them flourish within their own culture. You need to see the Ted talks episode of where the women basically covers everything I just said but with more detail.

When our daughter was born we named her Charis. It means Grace. And then didn't pass the hearing test. We thought she'd be deaf. I thank God that she's been able to live with some minor hearing loss so far. She's five years old now, and she continues to be a reminder of God's grace in our lives.

I remember when I first heard this song, it really touched me that he wanted his sister to know he was sorry. I later saw him in concert and was suprized to seemingly be the only one that knew why he started rapping with no sound. Anyway, it was a representation of what it is like for a deaf person to see a live performance and gave us a taste of the frustration of seeing his lips move but being unable to hear the music or the vocals. Lol I yelled out "WE LOVE YOU GRACE!!" and many people turned and looked at me I even heard one guy say "what is she talking about?" until the music started and everyone else got it. I always wonder if Any remembers that haha ha. Probably not....

    Lyrics
It's kinda crazy, it's kinda crazy that your name is Grace
    Your name is Grace
Cause that's what I need, that's what I need right now in this crazy place
    It's crazy, crazy, crazy
    It's not that I did somethin', it's the fact that I didn't
And I'm so ashamed it took twenty-five years just to get it
Cause people made fun, and I just laughed with 'em
But that was me as a child
I just pray you forgive me
    Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
    Hear my heart
    Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
    Hear my heart beat
    I remember your son graduation
That's when I met your friends
And they was all havin' conversation
But they was sayin' stuff that I couldn't understand
Then all of a sudden it felt like, I understood something I missed my whole life
For the first time I was wearin' your shoes
For the first time I was hearin' your views
I never knew how complicated life is when you feel so isolated
And I know we don't speak much
Cause when talking got hard all I ever did was throw the peace up
My big sister Grace, I'm sorry I never learned to sign
And even though you were born deaf
I pray you forgive me for the years I lived blind
    Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
    Hear my heart
    Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
    Hear my heart beat
Sometimes, sometimes these words aren't enough
So let me show you, let me show you
Sometimes, sometimes these words aren't enough
So let me show you, let me show you
    It's kinda crazy
    Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
Hear my heart beat, hear my heart beat
    Hear my heart beat
    Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
    Hear my heart
    Na-na-na, na-na-na, na, na, na
    Hear my heart beat

People usually don't take deaf people seriously, but keep in mind that anybody could become disabled in an instant as I lost my hearing overnight at 4 years old. Appreciate your parents-show you care because they raised you despite their deafness.

This is a heartfelt dedication from a man who had grown up with an older sister who was born def. He is now communicating with her through this video, through sign language he had learned, in order to communicate something to his sister. God knows this man had something on his heart he had to say.

    • @DonSancho15
      @DonSancho15 6 років тому +1

Definitely. I have an older sister who knows little sign language, but not enough to have a deep conversation. It's been 47 years (my age) and she had an attitude like his, but he caught quickly at 25 years old. Sometimes I feel she's estranged when it's not the case-she's just distant. Invited her to my wedding, she didn't attend so I took it as an offense that she disregarded my invitation. Recently, I flew to Austin for the sake of my niece and I kinda gave my sister a little reminder that I attended her wedding in Las Vegas, but she wasn't at mine.

I really love this song. The use of such heavy bass and sign language means that those who are hearing impaired can actually "hear" the music--in other words, they can feel the rhythm through their headphones, speakers, what have you from the vibration. This is wonderful.

It's magic he created. I became deaf when I was 4, but struggled to hear music. All my family has musical ability, except me. Sometimes, my brother, a percussionist, would "drum" a song on my lap while the stereo is blasting. The thing is I couldn't listen to the lyrics so he tried to sign it to me while stereo is blasting. Then he went away in the military... I struggled again, then UA-cam came where I can "feel" the music on my computer's speakers. I remember the first time I was able to feel the beat of the music was the 1880's cowboy waltz or something similar in the movie "Tombstone" where Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell) and Josephine "Sadie" Marcus (Dana Delany). Check out the waltzing at 2:00 at ua-cam.com/video/VpzLQ8Fg1CE/v-deo.html

We no longer use "hearing impaired" - we say "deaf" or "hard of hearing" -just FYI (the term "hearing impaired" has sort of gone the way the term "mentally retarded" has gone - it's outdated) The only time it is still sometimes used is for older people who are losing their hearing due to old age. Then we just say "hearing loss" -

I am dyslexic and ADHD, both diagnosed as an adult. I also was born cross-eyed. I was never understood growing up and feel like no one in my family ever even bothered to understand me. I hear fine but still really relate to this song.

I studied #deaf culture for 2 years, I am intrigued by the culture, when I heard #andymineo was going to do this song in #ASL I was happy as the culture doesn't get enough notice. In my 2 years of living with and doing life with the #deafcommunity I learned so much about them but more about myself, and how shallow I can be. I tio my hat to the deaf culture, love ya! #JesusChrist #Jesus #Christ

I love the song, the video and sign is great, the only thing it lacks is facial expression and gestures, but that's the toughest part of #ASL you really have to be in the culture and practice daily to get the expressions.

This is literally the coolest thing ever!!! It's also such a sweet tribute to his sister!! I know that deaf people like it when they understand stuff in their own language because I've been around deaf people my whole life (I have several deaf family members and go to a deaf church in CB Iowa)!! Visuals are really great for deaf people as they can't hear it. My own deaf brother has huge speakers in the back of his car and instead of listening to the music he can feel the vibrations. The visuals have the same impact as the vibration
