  • This talk challenges our traditional and culturally biased understanding of Sikhi that is taught to us.
    The English Katha is every SUNDAY at 6pm at PARK AVENUE GURDWARA in SOUTHALL.
    Basics of Sikhi is a project by Everythings 13, an educational charity dedicated to spreading the wisdom of the Sikh Gurus. Please SUPPORT our work - bit.ly/1cRKGdz - Whether its £5 a month or £50, all will go towards parchar and NOT building funds.
    Vaheguru Simran in the Intro and Outro is how Sikhs chant Gods name. Its performed by Jagdeep Kaur of www.qi-rattan.com. You can download it for free from www.thekdp.com (Jam 2, track 6 = Waheguru Simran).

    Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh bhai ji. Thank you for making these videos on Sikhi, your work is very appreciated. I was wondering, if it would be possible for you to make a video on the Sikh perspective on how the world was created (our creation story). Thank you.

    Literal meaning of "Gyani" is a person of wisdom and knowledge. "Gyani" is also an educational qualification in India which relates to Punjabi language and literature. Equivalent of that in Hindi is "Shastri". So, in literal sense Bhai Jugraj Singh is of course gyani.

    Your point on singularity really convinces me. However, the one God or Waheguru as we call him is present even today. Singularity is not. How do we reconcile the two since then?

    • @basicsofsikhi
      @basicsofsikhi  10 років тому +3

      metalsurd Well actually, although things have expanded out from the singularity, they remain within God and it will all revert back to 1.

      Basics of Sikhi Point noted, thank you. Listening to your talk I was reminded again of the 8.4 million births we have to take until we attain human form. This time I decided to google on where science stands today on the number of species on earth (or the universe?). Pleasantly surprised to know the estimate is, "8.7 million, give or take 1.3 million": www.nature.com/news/2011/110823/full/news.2011.498.html. Not that I should need this for confirmation.

      +metalsurd if u believe in guru u will get the right answer that there are only 8.4 million species present in the universe . The scientist have surely mixed the breed with species (we all know how mush science is flexible ) .......read Guru Granth sahib ji daily with meanings n join the sangat then u will not doubt Guru and will know the truth

    I would politely suggest you challenge your pre-existing perception of the 'AUM' symbol. The interpretation you have presented is a superficial representation that is grotesquely short of the depth that the symbol signifies. Even a cursory appraisal of the Mandukya Upanishad will prompt you to revise your idea that the "AUM" symbol is a mythological representation of the Trimurti with "nothing above them".
    I do not doubt that many hold 'AUM' as a traditional polytheistic conceptual belief but as you are well aware: a belief that is held by many does not contaminate the sanctity of the scripture. Dare I say, most Sikhs believe Ik Onkar simply means "one God". You have perhaps given the same treatment to a symbol of priceless depth.
