@@JenOnTheMove oh i don’t doubt that you have a few videos in the pipeline until your big move, but at least we have warning and can prepare ourselves…plus there’s always the future!
Compton haha... :-) Cool to see you go past my home station. Didn't know that about the crossing either, will info dump to my family next time we walk over that!
@@JenOnTheMoveOne thing that I’d love to see them doing is at Deansgate/Castlefield all outbound mainline trains from Piccadilly stopping/calling there, which would make transferring trains to Chester far easier, even if some also leave from Victoria
There is also another (tiny) bit of the West Midlands Metro that was abandoned. One of the platforms and the track leading up to it at the Wolverhampton St George's terminus was removed at some point, and is now used as a bus stop/stand.
When you all walked though the tunnel three silhouettes in the music it felt like one of those old late 70's science fiction shows. Even more so when you were at kingsway.
Great to see the old infrastructure. I rode the last ever train around the Oldham Loop before it closed. They even set detonators off at Victoria, you will not see that happening again.
the tunnel on the Old Oldham Mumps station looks amazing and its brilliant to see history of the old Mumps stop in Oldham & the Rochdale line on the Metrolink is a lovely line to ride brilliant as always
Love Bryn’s t-shirt! Great video - seemed like you all had a great time! Is it just me or does “Shaw and crompton” sound like an early 20th century manufacturer of agricultural machinery?
Great vid as usual. If in the far-flung future we ever get the sensible Metrolink extension to our Borough's only mainline rail station at Greenfield, I wonder how many delays and cost-overruns will be caused by the decision not to mothball the old route to Mumps? (The route should of course largely follow the old "Delph Donkey" route). Several parts have been built over with amazing speed, as if to say "never gonna happen".
Hi Jen, Great video once again and yet another trip down memory lane regarding Rochdale. I've travelled both ways over that tram bridge there, also collected cars from Rochdale as well...I thought the 3 of you were going to go right through that tunnel, would have been good to see if it was clear to the other end...how long is it? Do you ir Bryn know? As always, take care, See you in the next one... Jon B.
Not an abandoned route, but an abandoned stop on a modern tramway, the stop for Sheffield station was moved to put it closer to the main station. Why it wasn’t build there in the first place, I don’t know. The old platforms were still there the last time I was in Sheffield, pre-Covid.
I’m continuing to enjoy you and the gang traveling along the Manchester Metro link I found it very interesting this Vlog especially when you found the disused train/train line and the tunnel I look forward to watching you and the gang continue your journey along the Manchester Metro Link network until then carry on being awesome keep up the good work take care and stay safe
Brilliant video Jen, love all the humor in this. That tunnel could of been used as a bypass line for the metrolink like Bryn suggested to be honest. Also it seems such a waste to build a new road for a new development that never gets built.
Kingsway Business Park is actually always expanding, the new roads are necessary for facilitating moar cargo vehicles and employee ease of access by car :o
Enjoyed this video and the abandoned tunnel, Jen. From the Western side of Oldham the tram line takes a sharp left towards Westwood - straight on would be the Wereneth Tunnel and the turn is where the old Oldham Wereneth station on Featherstall Road South was. The interchange with the buses at Rochdale works really well, especially if heading to the likes of Hebden Bridge or Halifax for a straight bus changeover from the tram.
I've used the temp metrolink tram stop, cant believe it's nearly ten years since it shut! The business park was opened as it's near a main road but some investment fell through and it never got built. Theres a JD sports factory there (possibly largest in the country) I had a friend who worked there, she said it's awful
Cool tunnel, doesn't look like somewhere you'd want to be with a camera though 😅. Always wondered if people supported the Metrolink conversion. Must be slower than the train to Manchester would've been. Also more ultimate geeking with Bryn!
For most people, the Metrolink would have been an improvement on the train, on service frequency alone, alongside being able to get further into the city - saving the lost time
Definitely an overall improvement - the direct train from Rochdale to Victoria was always quicker so this really was a crummy local service before conversion; it's much more used now and has vastly improved the area all things considered transport wise.
Maybe the former railway line could be used as a new road, guided busway or a public bridleway. Such a shame that it’s been left like that and nature taking over it.
Are you holding auditions to try out for "Jen's on-screen companion"? If so, where do we apply? (And is it considered bribary to arrive with coffee for you?)
I think, replacing someone who doesn't like coffee with some who does, is silly: the one who doesn't like coffee leaves more coffee for you to enjoy, the other one... well, I think you know.
Love Bryn’s geekiness! He’s a legend!! Great video yet again Jen, keep them coming, you are blossoming into greatness and your self confidence is inspirational 🤗
Sorry I'm late but I have a lovely idea for you, you could make a little extra money by selling some merch like 'i love coffee ☕' or 'trams are cool !' or something like that.
The tunnels needed repairing and network rail wouldn't pay the money out to repair them, looks like metrolink had the same problem. Used them a lot when the trains where used. I used to live near werneth station and heard a train coming a mile off on the curve.
They always planned to do the phase 2 through the town centre, they did originally plan to keep the viaduct until phase 2 rather than embedded track grade crossing of the road that would only be in place for a couple of years but the viaduct was in too poor condition.
Be sure to subscribe to Bryn here - www.youtube.com/@BrynBuck
Bryn is the master of playing the straightman to Jen’s craziness…he’ll be missed as a constant companion but he’ll be remembered fondly
I'm sure he may just reappear in the next episode!

Tonight in Jen Gear:
• Bryn gets shown a sign!
• Jen points at business!
• And a sign says grrrrr, bark, woof!
I enjoyed this vid a lot! 😊
I need to point more
i hate that i heard that in Clarkson’s voice…but that was dead-on for that show 🤣
The banter on this was epic! Love the abandoned tunnel. Bryn cannot be replaced! Epic video Jen
I'm sure I can keep them around for the next one ;-)

Lovely video. I loved the little interludes with Bryn geeking out. It was also cool to see some of the abandoned tramway.
There is also another (tiny) bit of the West Midlands Metro that was abandoned. One of the platforms and the track leading up to it at the Wolverhampton St George's terminus was removed at some point, and is now used as a bus stop/stand.
Really liked the history in this one, and ultimate geeking with Bryn definitely deserves its own jingle

Great video Jen! Love a good abandoned tunnel!

I'm sure they'll still be here next time!
EXACTLY
I’ve been to Rochdale on the tram just before the Covid lockdowns started and at that stage, it felt really strange

In the Fred Dibnah documentary I’m sure there is footage of him at Shaw taking down the Briar Mill Chimney
I think there was once a few bird watchers around the Kingsway Business Park stop
Love Bryn’s t-shirt!

I concur, it is your best Metrolink video to date. 👍🙂
Thankyou Ian! We're pretty proud of this one!

geek fact : derker to shaw and crompton is the longest distance between two stops on the entire metrolink system.
I'm wanting to visit all these places now.
Another great video Jen.
Thanks both!

Shame the line was temporary as it went through Oldham a lot quicker!
Astounding show. Gratefully appreciated. ❤

The views have improved in todays video. Very good video too.

Interesting to see a disused Manchester Metrolink tunnel!
Kingsway Business Park could be used as a set for a post apocalyptic film
Jen on the abandoned railways was very exciting :D
Thanks :)
Popping on to lavish admiration for Bryn’s T-shirt
It's particularly fitting!
Rumours of my demise have been greatly exaggerated!

@@BrynBuck good to know
So, who heard "Little Green Bag" in their head as they walked down the road at Kingsway Business Park? Because, sure as heck I heard it!
Maybe the former railway line could be used as a new road, guided busway or a public bridleway. Such a shame that it’s been left like that and nature taking over it.
Fabulous as always jen! Never disappoint us!
Bryn brings all sorts of nerdy interest and things I didn't know I wanted to know. I vote keep them about, coffee isn't everything!
Okay, maybe I will

😃
The Pizza sounds like my type of pub.
I’m coming to Manchester next month and will be using the trams/metro link for the first time
Hope you enjoy it!
"Sean Compton" for the win! ✊☺️
That “business” park in Essex would be taken over by boy racers
Been on the man picc to Rochdale tram so many times. Takes ages though
Oh gosh there are three of you now. Nice pointing. Too much canals. Not enough tunnel detail.
Love you all.
Great intro
Did you know there's a tunnel under Oldham?
You were lucky they must have just fixed the lift at Derker as I was there the other day and it was out of order.
Metrolink lifts are notorious for not working
Can we have a jingle for the Ultimate Geeking With Bryn segment?
If you check out the Stourbridge video, you'll find out why they don't have a jingle 😂
If growing up near something was the only criteria required for making you like something, I would be a massive fan of the M25.
Is there a public consultation on the phasing out of Bryn ?
Yes, there was one, and it was ran with the same integrity as other public consultations 😉
I think, replacing someone who doesn't like coffee with some who does, is silly: the one who doesn't like coffee leaves more coffee for you to enjoy, the other one... well, I think you know.
I hope the phasing out of Bryn from this channel is as temporary as the original Oldham Mumps tram stop. He'll be sadly missed if it's permanent
Don't worry, he's not going anywhere 😃

😳😳😳😳😳
Mumper is the old dialect word for a beggar. Pity, really, I’d like to have been born in the only town with a station named after a disease.
