Given announced changes for next campaign... lots of players will see maps for the first time in ranked.
What are the changes?

Starter access will be limited to only the first 10 tracks of the campaign.
starter access players will still be able to get 11-25 in ranked.

These changes are insane to me, there’s already not enough content for f2p players any new player will just close the game and uninstall
@Kongaii exactly what I did. Played in spring season, got top 50 on a map I liked, promptly dropped the game. No way in without shelling out way too much money for maps the devs didn't even fucking make.

I don't play TM, but can I say the ranked system is by far one of the best I've ever seen in a multiplayer format? You gain rank for being on the winning team, sure, but you *also* gain rank for being the MVP. So even if you match with sub-par players, you can still climb without being held back. That's a phenomenal advancement I wish other games could learn from. Looking at you, League and ELO Hell...
With the league portion how would you determine the MVP if the losing team? Because from most metrics I could never see the support ever being the MVP on the losing team regardless of how well they do, won’t have lost gold or damage may have most KP but then that doesn’t tell the whole story. I like the thought but how would you implement it? Atleast with TM you can say well he was placed higher on average.
I'd agree if TM had any reason to be a team game, however it doesn't. The team aspect has no effect on the actual gameplay and only adds randomness to a person's ranking. You could be the second best player in a match and lose rank solely because of your team.
@@duckmandrake1859 yeah i dont think real time competitive multiplayer really works well for games like tm. theres no working together and especially at the low ranks its just "will your teammates be terrible or good". ive lost count of the amount of times ive come first almost every round and still lost a game
@@duckmandrake1859the only good way to make the system work is to do it like tmgl, so you don't solo queue but have a teammate, or do a 1v1v1v1v1v1 which could work that first get most elo, second gets less, third gets almost 0, fourth gets 0, fifth a couple on minus and last like -30
It works here because strong personal performance leads directly to wins.
In games where you can selfishly hog damage and kills in ways that are not helpful to you team, this sort of system can incentivize selfish unhelpful play.
In world of tanks, for instance, there's very helpful damage and less helpful damage, and the less helpful damage is way easier to get. When WOT instituted rewards for performance that offset losses, the quality of play went down instantly, as people started playing selfishly.
Buckley is your best editor, you should get him to edit more of your videos. And pay him more.

Question: I just started playing TM and I was pondering trying ranked. Is the track selection influenced by the rank you are playing at? I mean, tracks like 23-25 I'm not even sure I can consistently get to the end.... 😅
Currently yes, I don't remember exactly how it works but you definitely don't get the black tracks for a while. I think they're changing how it works in the next season though so it might not be like that next season.

MVP is the most consistent player but not always the fastest. I think best lap time should also get a little bonus elo.
Going for the fastest time often requires riskier strategies and probably more suitable for solo play. Otherwise half of the player may not even be able to finish each round.
@@klsztsu850exactly. Most valuable is because you were the biggest factor in your team.
If you are 1 second faster then everyone but only finish time, you are not at all valuable to your team
@@klsztsu850 I agree with both of you. I wasn’t referring to a solo play style specifically, but understand what it would encourage. I just thought it would be a nice bonus. I talking 5-10 elo or maybe no elo loss if your team losses but still have the fastest time. Just something would be nice.

the same shit is happening to me im pbing almost every run and still losing in 80% of my games i think im just playing with really good players which is weird cuz im only silver right now
From what I've seen, after mid/high silver the times don't get that much better, more so the consistency. So it might be that you're not that fast of a player, but more consistent than players in your league
@@derAtze how does one get faster ive gotten author medals on the first 20 tracks but i dont race nearly as fast as i do in offline play and idk what im doing wrong i only have like 20 hours on the game maybe i just need to play more? its just tough for me to remember the lines i did does that just come from repetition?
@@oddgerman3775 just play the tracks over and over again. Try to practice specific routes and strategies for the tracks and drive all tries to the finish, eventhough you aren't on pb pace after the first few corners

Still sadly the game with the worst rank mode. It does make zero sense to be a 2v2 or 3v3 at all.
This is the scoring system used for cross country running teams for decades...
Except that the numbers are reversed and high score is better than low score but the results are the same.
@@andy4an that's no excuse at all. It's a Singleplayer game that should be treated as much. A free for all system would make so much more sense for something like that
