    Steve Jobs was known for changing his mind. He was a brutal ‘best idea wins’ guy, no matter where the idea came from. He told Tim Cook “never ask yourself what I would have done. Just do what’s right.” I think the biggest difference if Steve was here today would be all the product categories we’re not even thinking about. He would have probably successfully concluded the car project and other big projects we’ll never know about.

    Your thoughts on the Apple Pencil are exactly what I thought too. When the media came out with the statements the next day, I thought the market completely overlooked the context in which how the stylist would be used. Steve hated it as the primary device for input. But for an artist, this would be perfect for an accessory. I have one, but it's only for a particular purpose.

    while we all think Steve Jobs would have done this and that...he would simply think out of the box and give us the best product the consumer didn't even think they wanted..that's Steve Jobs...while we think what we need he would come up with some mind blowing idea and actually tell us what we need rather than fulfilling the market needs..that's y he was genius..not because he was great engineer or scientist but because he was great visionary sadly Apple lack though they have the best management team....

    Tim Cook: WOW STEVE! YOU'RE BACK!
    Steve Jobs: Are you still making 3.5 inch displays?
    Tom Cook: No, we have 6.5 inch displays on our newer smartphones, we've also removed the home button, we also make "Apple watches" and the iPad is very different now, no square or rectangular screens anymore. We've got wireless charging, Eapods, Homenpods, iPods are very different now too.We also use stylus.
    Steve Jobs: I can't believe I founded such an awful compony.

  • @sportsbros5540
    @sportsbros5540 6 років тому +8

    I think that if steve Jobs was still here and kept going with the 3.5 inch display he would have less people buy his phones. I think many people now in life need bigger phones for work, and stuff like that. I think that Apple should have kept the Headphone Jack because people don’t want to have the trouble of having to buy special headphones to satisfy the needs of your phone

    • @robertwinter9229

    I would like to bring up an interesting perspective. Steve Jobs was famous for setting new standards and challenging the status quo. That being said, it is probably more likely that the world of consumer electronics would have been completely different, and all the trends we have today might not have started at all. So instead of discussing about how Jobs would have complied to today's trends, a better question should be:
    What would our trends have been if Jobs were alive today.

    I think in Steve's era everything was a gamechanger. From the OG iphone, to becoming significantly better with the 3GS, the 4 becoming premium, the 5 having a bigger display, and the 5S with the fingerprint tech. After that, the iphone did not continue to be a gamechanger, but just an incremental improvement. Slightly bigger display, faster, improved camera, etc. There has been no serious gamechanging features. The 3D touch I am in denial of as I don't use it or can imagine much use out of it (a slight long hold does the same thing on Android). The iPhone X was definitely a gamechanger in the sense of using OLED bright colors, bezel free etc. but by the time it came out the competition was already there, including using Iris technology. I personally think Steve would not have been happy with this slight stepping stone versions and would have wanted more grandeur launches with every version coming out convincing the audience to purchase an iPhone every year instead of every 2-3 with the way it is now. He would prolly have enjoyed the airpods and the new Macbook revamp though, those stand for the value of what Apple believed in. Siri would not be the joke it is today if he was alive either. Just an opinion though. Apple is one of my favorite companies and I really hope they win me back, my family uses the iPad and Apple TV and enjoy it. I personally only use 1 product from them, the macbook, and really wish they make the iPhone the desirable phone to have again, until then, I will be keeping my Note 8.

    I can tell you one thing for certain we KNOW Steve would have despised. And that’s questioning “what would Steve do?” He would have probably fired the entire executive team if he saw them tangle with trying to question whether or not he would approve something. Besides, he could change his mind in a heartbeat and never look back. It’s so silly looking at how he tackled something a decade ago when the guy was notorious for changing his mind. He was not rigid in his thinking, which was his biggest gift. Too many smart people like him are very rigid in thought and incapable of admitting to themselves they might have been wrong. I’m personally very proud of Apple in 2018, and I’m sure Steve would have been too.

    About the first thing that you mention, I think Steve would be okay with the changes of the screen size of iPhone. In my opinion, that theory would work for me because if he is going to make his phone's more powerful and still keep the screen size to 3.7 inches, that will make the thickness of the device larger and larger every generation. And at some time, the phone will thicker than the original Xbox, and I'm sure that Steve doesn't like that, because he wants his device to be a portable device but since he can't put a Xbox thickness-level into his pocket, he will have to increase the size of the screen to make it possible to put all the hardware in.

    I don't think he would love it and neither hated, he was more of a guy that didn't like to ad things to a product just for the demand however I also find him as a perfectionist and apple did a lot of incredible stuff over the years. Also about the notch I think he would wait a few years until they discovered a new way to imbed the sensors into the display or just make the chin a little bit tinier(and sell it for a higher price point). But like you said nobody can speak for him

  • @go64bit
    @go64bit 6 років тому

    I agree Steve Jobs wouldn't have minded the extra space the notch brings in, but I still firmly believe Steve would have hidden it well. I mean he would have cleanly used that space just for status indication - just the black bar and white fonts. Most notch hiding apps on Android do that now. Very effective especially on OLED displays.

    I think that if Steve Jobs suddenly came back to Apple he wouldn't be disappointed but he would change things up a bit for the future.

    Steve jobs wore black shirts, so he would be fine with having a black phone and/or bezel every year...
    That's pretty much what this video was saying. Jobs would be fine with everything apparently

    Those tiny corners next to the notch arent much display but they allow apple to call the screen 5.8 inches instead of, maybe 5.5 inch. Those tiny eary things aren’t really worth that to a customer i think.

    I was wondering why you think Jobs would have liked wireless charging. You just said that he would like it without explaining why. I would agree that he would like it because it simplifies things, which he was very keen of (iPod stopping CDs, simplifying the UI, etc.) although, I think he wouldn’t have allowed the iphone to have qi wireless charging. He would’ve pushed a form of AirPower that wasn’t qi and release the AirPower charging mat with the iPhone 8. He also would’ve diversified the AirPower mats with a smaller one and a bigger one that you could put iPads on too, which leads me to the next thing. If he was still alive, the very next iPad that is released would have wireless charging (which I think/hope Apple does anyways). I think he would have done this because of the way that Apple made proprietary power charging systems (30 pin, lightning, MagSafe) and then brought them to other products (iPod, iPhone, iPad & all the MacBook lines).
    I have no doubt in my mind Jobs with the HomePod. It marries two things he was very fond of: great sounding music (iTunes, iPod Hi-Fi, iPods in general) and really small devices (iPod Shuffle, small iPhone screens). He also would like that the HomePod screen only shows the important things (Siri orb, + - button indicators) because Jobs liked things to be simple and intuitive (Apple UIs, iPod wheel+screen, no screen on iPod Shuffle). One thing Jobs might not like about HomePod though, is that Siri doesn’t stand up to the competition. Even though the HomePod was made to be a speaker with Siri, no the other way around, he never liked even a small part of a device to be half-baked/not to the fullest of potential (iPhone space in the inside like you mentioned in the video, being behind competition and then blowing their products out of the water). I KNOW he would’ve made it only support Apple Music because other platforms wouldn’t be as optimized, therefore cursing Apple with never working as well as it could if it was just Apple Music or as simple.
    If anyone sees this comment (especially you, drew) I would love to know what you think apple will/should do for a UI on a minimal bezel iPad with no home button. Should they do the same thing as the iPhone and change multitasking once again? Or do they further distance iPad iOS and iPhone iOS.
    Wow, that took a while to type, I’m so sorry for making you read that.

    I know a lot of people hate on Tim, but this is a tough time to be the CEO since we are approaching or have arrived at market saturation for the iPhone. Apple has reached the point where the iPhone revenue will shrink year after year until a new "Wow" feature or product hits the market.

    I think that Steve Jobs would be ok with Apple’s direction. He might be more proactive about product focus, with a good example being the HomePod. It came out in the market without having all its features, so it could compete with audiophile level smart speakers like Sonos. Steve Jobs would have driven his engineers to meet a deadline with all the necessary features included.

    I think one of the most important things he would have changed are the names. Not saying they would have been better, but he definitely would not have approved the name of the iPhone X. But then again, no-one knows.

    Steve understands that you only simplify the product to a point ,which does not renders its functionality.
    Examples: the iPhone with no headphone jack so you can used your wired headphones
    The Macbook Pro which has 4 USB C ports rendering its usefulness, another would be is no MagSafe, goodbye your Macbook to the ground

    Wireless charging existed in the Samsung galaxy s4 while Steve Jobs was still alive. I doubt that he would have realized it's potential. I believe that apple got rid of the headphone Jack too early. Until wireless buds are on the same level in quality as wired I don't forsee myself ditching the wires.

    As an avid mac user since 1987, I've seen Apple go through various stages, both with and without Jobs. From all accounts, he was a complete SOB. I wouldn't have wanted him as my boss, or as my neighbor. In fact, safe to say, I probably would have detested him as a person if I had ever gotten the chance to know him personally. But he was the driving force behind a lot of what Apple did and what they accomplished. Guys like Craig Federighi, Phil Schiller & Jony Ive, are all extremely talented. But to me, Tim Cook's guiding principle is not about beauty and simplicity and innovation, but he's all about maximizing profit. And in that, he's done a brilliant job. Apple is now one of the richest companies in the world. But he's not the visionary Jobs was. And having watched this company and purchased a lot of their products over the years, the competition is closing in from so many directions. For a long time, you could make the argument that most of Apple's products had clear, distinctive advantages. That's not always the case anymore. And nobody is left to take things by the scruff of the neck and break it out of the mediocrity and complacency it's found itself in. I'm sorry if that sounds disingenuous to a lot of very creative and hard working Apple engineers. But it's true. If Jobs were here today, he'd probably say the same thing he said to the board when hereturned to the company in 1997. "What the F**K have you people done while I was gone?" As a Mac OS user since system 5, Mojave's most touted feature is 'dark mode'. Seriously?

    But the iPhone x still has a worse screen to body ratio compared to the s8 which doesn't have a notch. If it was a higher percentage then I would agree with then putting a notch, but if there are other options without a notch with a better screen to body ratio, the notch just isn't justified.

    Steve would likely have stuck with skeuomorphism, & resist the stylus, as well as all those different iPhone/iPad versions, while ensuring better perfected products with less buggy software.
