What is the cubic inch on that bad boy is it a 354 or a 392 ?
@@79tazman I believe they said 354ci.
Scott's Hugo Award winning comment of the year:
9:04 - "...the thing with this engine is that, anything you put it into is like Eddie Van Halen joining your band".
That puts into words the exact feeling!
Cheers!
Wow this has triggered a massive stroll down memory lane. When I was 11 or 12, the older brother of a friend of mine acquired a '57 or '58 Dodge that needed a LOT of work. He took the engine out, and disassembled it on the floor of the garage. In the course of this I learned about such things as ridge reaming, valve lapping, and a bunch of other stuff. Scraping sludge ,as the entire engire was full of it. I remember using a finishing nail to push the sludge out of oil passages in the rocker arms. I wasn't there at the start, and I don't recall that I ever saw the engine put back together and running again. But it was a great time, earning credibility with the older guys, and learning lots.
When Dan goes shopping he always gets the best stuff! It's not fair😆
My calendar arrived and it is ridiculously nice-WOW! I absolutely love it, and I am going to display it in my classroom for a conversation piece, as well as eye-candy for me. Thanks for creating it Scott!
I love my calendar too! One of the classics I’ll have up for a long time (like how my dad has his 1986 Snapon Tools calendar still up)
Thanks so much for ordering one... Glad you like it!
Mine too. Showed up in New Hampshire in perfect shape. The packaging was brilliant. I didn’t realize it was going to be in a wide format. All of the pictures are great but the ‘60 Fury is breathtaking.
From the way the serial numbers read I'm thinking this hemi engine could be "originally" from of an old Chrysler air raid siren and not from an automobile . Those hemi powered air raid sirens were awesome . They could be heard at a distance of 25 miles .
With an AT mated to it?
It was a fluid coupling controlled by a lever. It wouldn't have an AT on it if it was from a siren
They added the AT later ?@@barberjeff67
They added the AT later ?@@johna1160
Serial numbers taken from a removable engine part might be misleading ,also unless both valve covers were replaced the industrial hemis had that ID pressed into it
It does look like a truck engine and also had at least one hydraulic pump
This is a torque monster block
Truck valve covers would read "Power Giant" and industrial engines would say "Chrysler Industrial" but, of course, those are easily changed. Great score!
Did the industrial home's have solid lifters with bumps in the valve covers for the adjusters? 👍👍🇨🇦
@@johnkranyics281 Not the ones I'm familiar with, John.
I believe it is a 354 (280 hp / 380 lb-ft, 9.0 to 1 CR) available in New Yorker and Imperial. The 301 (polysphere only) 331 and 354 engines were “low blocks” having a stroke of 3.625” while the 392 was a “high block” with a stroke of 3.906”. Casting numbers as follows: Block 1619276, heads 1619823 or 1677441, intake 1637623, engine ID code NE56-1001 (first engine assembled 1002 second and so on), exhaust manifolds 1638346 (right) and 1638348 (left),
carburetor Carter WCFB
2314S or 2314SA. The Imperial came with the 2314S carb. I heard
that the WCFB stood for
White Cast Four Barrel and/or Will Carter Four Barrel. In addition to the 340 hp 300B motor (9.0 to 1 CR) there was a optional 355 hp motor (10.0 to 1 CR w/3” exhaust). I believe that the 354 heads had integral valve guides which helped in keeping valve temps down. Valves were 1.94 intake / 1.75 exhaust (392 had 2.00 /. 1.75. The 355 hp motor was the first factory US motor to have at least 1 hp / cu inch but, like the ‘57 Chevy FI 283 was an option. The first non-optional motor to have at least 1 hp / cu was the 1957 345 hemi (345 hp) as it was the STANDARD one only engine available in the 1957 Desoto Adventurer. I hope this helps and can’t wait to see how this turns out!!!
When I was a kid one of my cousins put a 354 hemi in his dad's tractor. 😀 It had an open exhaust - I remember riding on a hay wagon behind it, what a sound that was.
The amazing thing about the gen1 hemis to me is just how damn *heavy* they are - keep in mind, they did not
benefit from the later "thinwall" block castings like the 426 to come, so the block on the 50's ones are basically
a huge block of iron with Flinstone-esque machining done to them.
All told, we're talking about damn near a *half ton* of engine there, not joking...congrats GCFCE!
(Calendar arrived yesterday as well; 2200 mile trip. I posted pics on the Patreon member page).
- Ed on the Ridge
they were like the big Packard flathead 8's,...1000 lbs of iron!
Best content on UA-cam
Wow, congrats to Dan & Paul on finding this old treasure. The "will it run" episode will be great to see. And maybe the car it ends up in will be on the 2025 CWM calendar - there's a clumsy segue for me to say that my calendar arrived a few days ago, and I'm really pleased with it.
Thanks so much, Tom! Glad you like it... I am very happy with how they turned out...Cheers from here!
Pretty cool… the oil filler neck gave it away before you untarped it. Nice find!!!
Looking forward to a "somebody hang on to that side" start-up. Cheers
Cheers Randahl! I am looking forward to this one, for sure!
My grandpa / uncle had a 56 Dodge 3 ton with a hemi in it. That’s what I learned to haul by the time I was 14. Loved that hemi sound. The trucks, at least this one, came factory with 2 barrel dual exhaust. Will always cherish those hemi’s! Great find!
Those were the days. No one bat an eyelid about that in some parts huh?
This engine is a great find-I’ve never seen one like it.
Cold War Motors always leaves a warm place in our hearts.
That engine would be cool in the 58 Plymouth 🎉
What enormous delicious Cast Iron lump of an engine. I cant help it but feeling sorry for the motor mounts.
The Guys at GCFCE sure to get the cool toys!
Yes plese! I would love to hear that fired up.
Behold !! Bow down and worship !!!
Nice Hemi score!
It's about time you all brought a Hemi into the Cold War Motors mix. Maybe this will lead to further inclusion of Chryslers multi division ohv V8 Hemi and Polyhead engines in the CWM programing scheme.
Well, I do have 3 plated Poly cars already, and a nice 270 in the 1956 Plymouth... I also have a few Hemis, but the are the 2-litre Citroen variety, haha... Cheers!
@@coldwarmotors I have a 1957 D-100 with a push-button 3speed auto and 315 Poly that needs rebuilding. I'm looking to find any examples illustrating poly engine rebuilding and improving. Obviously hemi info is largely relevant.
Dear CWM Scott N.
Warning! 😱 No cute big black poodle content in this video! 😁😁😁 ;-) 2) There simply can't be a bigger difference existing in this universe than in the hairstyles of agent 7678 GCFCE and CWM's CEO. 😁 ;-) 3) 👍👌👏 Yes, please! Of course do I want to hear this heavy lump of cast iron roar again. But, to be completely honest, what I would like even better is, that you work on your own cars more. Don't get me wrong, I totally understand how extremely important friends/buddies are. But for instance the gorgeous and almost finished big green car doesn't get better from sitting around outside.
As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and especially health to all involved petrol heads.
Anxious to see Dan's Chrysler engine installed. But I'm honestly more excited to see an eventual use for Scott's super quiet Packard straight 8 engine. Once the exhaust on that has a muffler, it could take more than just listening to know if it's running. 😉
Oh! I have a couple ideas for where that could go... Cheers!
Excellent find! I can't wait to see what that will end up in!
I think you will definitely approve, given your love of the troll, haha! Cheers buddy... Get back to work on the Chicken Truck!
That engine still looks radical all these years later. Also, the calendar was the focus of attention yesterday in the old farm house. It arrived safely and love the high quality. Super impressed!
Thanks so much for ordering one! Glad you like it... I am very happy with them...Cheers from me and the Menace!
Yeah the early two speed Chryslers were air-cooled and then air and water cooled. The torque flights were always just water cooled I believe. It's just amazing that Chrysler DeSoto and Dodge all had different hemi's with almost no parts that would interchange.
That was done to insure that even the lower levels could get a "Hemi" .the one Hemi to respect was the 1958 300B 354 double 4 barrels High compression 355 HP
Said to be the first production model car to achieve 1 HP/cu.in. but I thought that was Chevy's 283 with a Rochester Fuel injection
@@dddevildogg yes I agree but the horsepower rating was far from the actual horsepower when it was installed in the car. But the marketing department love those numbers!
@@wilco3588 And the buyers bought power and speed....handling-? sometimes death defying thrills and spills
Sane drivers thought you were kookoo or drunk if you drove like you were in Daytona

There is a long story that i could bore You with about the first generation hemi engines. I would rather thank You for the time and efforts that went in to the calendars that i received Tuesday,
the beautifully prepared presentation was matched by the shipping packaging. My thanks and best wishes to everyone at Cold War Motors who made this possible.
Got our calendar earlier this week, and the whole household was thrilled! We all gathered round to admire each month's featured car and marveled over the mouth-watering quality photos. My personal favorite is June, without a doubt. The '60 Fury picture sends shivers up and down my spine. She is gorgeous! Thanks you for doing this, Scott, and I look forward to ordering more of them in years to come. You really should do a coffee table book! Damn nice calendar.
Hey, thanks so much! Glad you like it... I am very happy with them; James is a terrific photographer...Cheers!
Fire it up! The hemi too!!
Can't wait to hear the Hemi fire up! See you Saturday.
It's certainly looks like a 354 hemi especially with that 4bbl carburetor and the automatic vacuum secondaries. Now I have had three 1957 Imperials and two 1957 Chrysler New Yorkers four 1956 Desotos and four 1956 New Yorkers.
What a nice transplant for his Cordoba with it's fine corinthian leather wrapped steering wheel...
Good that he has a loader because that engine trans combination will max out many engine cranes. Great find.
A legendary HEMI ! 55 - 56 , with the excellent 2 speed Powerflite too ! It probably powered one of those very stylish old Forward Look New Yorkers with fins , or even an Imperial - these engines always look amazing in period correct Hotrods too . Another great Find !
O, Sweet Jeeezus!
What a gorgeous lump!
Hell yeah I want to see it run!
Chrysler fire power HEMI ❤
Encyclopedia Dan , decoding the ,
Engine stamps & casting numbers
Did you ever see that ,
First generation Hemi Engine ,
Utilized as an early warning ⚠️
Detection ? It powered a massive air raid sirens 🚨
Sweet find! What a massive chunk of engine, so cool. I don't have a hemi, but I do have a 301 poly for o '57 Plymouth sitting on a stand that I finally got running again this year after freshening it up five years ago. Just something neat about seeing/hearing a big ole V8 idling away.
Dan found a dandy. That’s a Hemi . Unbelievable what a find. Nice short!
💯👍👊
That FirePower engine was used in the Chrysler Air Raid Siren, which to this day, is the loudest siren ever produced at 138 decibels at a distance of 100 ft.
Calendar received. What great work. Thank you Scott for all the hard work. Greetings to Frankers and the Agents.
I have the same Chrysler 354 in my hotrod, mine was complete and still in the rolled New Yorker. It had the gas heater option, it had an extra fuel line from the fuel pump a purge fan and ignition controls all mounted on the passenger inner fender. Also the power steering pump was mounted on the back of the generator, I never used it so if you need one. I have it mounted in a 1931 Chevy 5 window Coupe probably a couple of winters away from being on the road.
Would be even cooler if it was originally off of the Chrysler victory bell Air raid siren. But I don’t believe there were any in Canada but a lot on the border of the US and Canada. They were built from 52-57. Gotta love the thought of some Chrysler engineers who thought the world needed a hemi powered air raid siren.
Nice can't wait to see wereld that go's into 🤙
Beautiful and epic Chrysler FireDome V8. I remember about that time mid 50s when they were appearing in our little renegade quarter mile dirt stock car track about a half mile from where I grew up in rural NW Allegheny County NW of Pittsburgh. Friday night races broke the quiet in our little rural valley! There was a stock car that Summer that promoted the FireDome engine but I don't remember what the chassis or body was. Back then guys raced lots of 32 Ford coupes, 40 Fords and other similar entries. I don't remember what car of that vintage they put the Chrysler hemi in. Fuzzy memories from long ago! Definitely must do a video of its first run. Clear prop! Contact! Fire out of the manifolds! 😉👍
one word: wow.
Wow!! I cannot believe you found a hemi! Nice snag!!
Cheers!!
Calendar is here !! Thanks Scott, Frankers, and all the CWM Agents! That's a kool mill he's got there!! the EVH comment is an instant classic
Wow that is a very special engine!
It seemed perfect when you had the camera pointed at the hemi with the 58 Plymouth in the background
That's going to be one sweet snowmobile with that unit in it.
What a BITCHENLY AWESOME BEAUTIFUL FIND 🏆🏆🏆🏆🎯 Can't Wait To Hear It & Finally Find Out Where It's Getting SHOEHORNED INTO 🤗🤗. Seeya Saturday Boyzn GBA 🤗 Gary.
I can't wait to see the will-it-run video for this beauty.
7 o' clock startup of this awesome score is the video we all need, so what a great idea gentlemen! Always exciting to see what kind of treasure the guys over at GCFCE dig up.
Looks pretty closr to my 56 354. I think the idler pulley on the passenger side might be for power steering. The trans cooler on mine is brass and cleans up to look really nice!
that's what the intake casting number says it is
I got my calendar yesterday Scott, beautiful job! I'll be framing 'em!
Thanks so much Mike! Glad you like it... I am very happy with how they turned out...Cheers!
354 Hemi .....treasure !!!!
Must do will it run with it
Love the old hemis. I kind of like the smaller Dodge engine cause it will fit in a Model A with the hood sides in place. Cool.
Woo Hoo !!! Got my Calendar yesterday. Love It !!! Gonna hang it in my Record Store. Ole Cars and ole Records, whats not to love !!
That's great to hear. Bob! Glad you like it... I am very happy with them...Cheers!
Look at how wide those heads are! Those are amazing.
The old Hemi needs some love! Nicks garage did one of these and dynoed it not to long ago! Very cool!
Good Lord, the size of the heads and sunken plug wells almost make it look twin-cam!
354 ? 🎉🎉I've had a a couple ,one was in a 1923 T😮hot heads are the go to guys when it comes to advice. I was their 1st Australian customer 😅. There's lots of things a HDMI needs before being 100 % such as hard chroming the rocker shafts to sort piling issues etc etc .
Based on the 56 year model, it would be a 354!
Can't wait to hear it run.❤ cheers. ✌️👍💕🇺🇲
Isn't it missing the plug wire covers that go on the valve covers? A piece of history for sure!
Can't stop drooling at that monster Hemi! Hell YEAH I wanna see a will-it-run on this Beast. While I'm sure that it is going to find a new home in some fantastic rig, for my money, I would LOVE to see that mill-monster under the hood of a parallel-era Power Wagon. I can think of VERY few things more awesome than a bodacious Hemi running a mud-stomping '58 Power Wagon. That thing down a snowy road would turn a yeti into a penguin!!! Ferocious find!!! Cheers!!!
Can't wait to hear this thing run!! My favorite video on all of the 'tube, bar none, is Jimmy White's Hemi A coupe winding it up...gives me goosebumps every time.
Man, that Hemi looks like it came out of some ocean
going vessel. Your calendar arrived today, the only
thing better than the packaging is what's inside. It will
brighten up the coming year. Thanks Scott and every one
else involved. Leland
Thanks so much, Leland! Glad you like it... I am very happy with how they turned out...Cheers!
A vintage Hemi always makes a statement...
My grandpa bought a Chrysler New Yorker in 1956, new, and paid cash. He was a machinist, and he knew what was what.
Wow! What an amazing find! Gotta love the old Hemi's! Congrats to the GCFCE for that find. Cheers!
Got my calendars. Awesome, Thanks so much.
Thanks so much for ordering them, Martin! All the very best from here...
Nice, and it's complete . Got to have a special " Mopar " episode.
Hemis with Coffee session. An absolute beast guys..😊💪👍
My neighbor years ago had one in his Chrysler with the push button transmission. Beautiful car. It used to sound so nice! Make sure you have that crush washer on the oil filter canister bolt or you will have oil everywhere. Ask me how I know. Cant wait to see it run!
I have the Dodge version right outside. Except mine is the smaller 270ci 2bl version and runs like a top. It powers my 55 Dodge C3H stake truck. Gets 4.5 mpg in my truck with truck gearing.👊😎👍
Fantastic find Dan !! Yes it did have 280 Hp in 1956. You could squeeze a few more out it easily. Good Luck ! I got my calendar this week , WOW !! Great Photos . Thanks ! 🇨🇦
That's great to hear! Glad you like it... I am very happy with them...Cheers!
@@coldwarmotors And so am I !!
We need to hear this lump run.
Good engine for the 50 Plymouth fastback.
Scott, my calendar just arrived safe and sound in Vermont. I couldn’t possibly be happier with it! Extremely high quality materials, wonderful photography and great packaging!
That's great to hear! Glad you like it... I am very happy with them...Cheers!
Scott, make an offer. The Renault engine bay is empty at the moment!!!!!!!!!!
Beautiful engine, it looks like it would weigh as much as the car its going into.
Almost as close to its invention, as it is to today. What a thing.
Love to see Dan so excited about the old iron! Never tire of hearing Tom at the end:.."Same old Shit"
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a great Engine!! give it to Myles for his birthday! ;
Wow. The finds just keep coming. Suspense and all that too. Thanks for putting out your calendar, got mine on Tuesday. Top notch just how you guys do it. Thanks for sharing with all your agents.
Thanks so much, Gary; glad you like it!
Are they planning to drop this inside Dan's slant 6 pickup? Stay dirty 👍
Even Francine looks excited about the Hemi....CRAZY!!
7:55 That's an industrial carb governor.
Vacuum secondaries; I checked... Cheers!
Can't wait to hear it run! Imagine it stuffed in that little Jeep he has 😅
Dan scored again and rarer than usual and It’s a 354 Hemi❤😂🎉
Does that thing got a hemi? why yes it does! Is it possible to have a hemi SM? I wish! See you this weekend.
Hi, Scott I received the calendar this morning. It's really beautiful. Thank you, Myles and you did an outstanding painting of the Fury. The colour is so brilliant red, it's like a Fire engine red. I can't wait for next spring when the Fury is all back together and both you and Myles are driving down the road smiling and laughing. I wish I can be there to ride in the Fury. Take care! See all of you on Saturday. Cheers!
That's great to hear! Glad you like it... I am very happy with how it turned out...Cheers!
👍 Can't wait to hear this one speak its mind. Nice catch!
Hemi, expensive engine to bring up to date. Back in the late 60's, I worked in a machine shop and the boss gave us Jobber prices for parts we purchased from the company. A hemi rocker are was $22.00 and a Chevy rocker was something like $3.00. That was just one rocker arm and I have never forgotten the price for the Hemi. Old stockers such as this are not towers of power from the factory but still this is a fabulous find. The 354 cu. in. engine produce 280 h.p. and the hottest Chevy was around 225. Not 2023 power but impressive and capable with many bucks. Still is. Can you say heavy?
You can find the id numbers that are stamped right in front of the valley cover of the block on the front top part of the the block great find.
The 56 new yorker had a 354 inch hemi with 280 hp, small 4 bbl and single exaust
😎I want to hear it run. Great find. Hello Frankers. 🇺🇸
