  • Hey ladies! I'm sharing all the curriculum things we didn't love this year... not necessarily a reflection of the curriculum itself, but simply things that didn't work for us in this season of our homeschool.
    My Amazon Shop:
    www.amazon.com...
If you are new here, I'm so glad you're here! I'm a 5th year homeschooling mom of 5 boys (ages 8, 7, 5, 3, and 1!). We have homeschooled from the very beginning when my oldest was kindergarten age, but even four years in I'm still learning about this homeschool mom gig. I love sharing a real and raw look at what it's like homeschooling with lots of littles under foot.

I’m new to homeschooling for 2 children. My oldest did public school all the through I have a 7th grader and a 4th grader and a 1 year old. So clearly a lot going on. I’ve been watching videos to get opinions and try to figure what will work for my children individually because they are very different.
I think it is extremely sad that every video I watch the mamma has to explain before she even goes into that she does not want to be attacked! It is frightening to me how many grown adults are okay with bullying! I support anyone who wants to homeschool no matter what curriculum they use or how they use it, so long as they are trying to teach their child/children to the best of their capabilities!!!

It blows my mind that content creators have to give disclaimers on sharing their OPINIONS. Good gravy ! We are all adults right? So we should be able to accept ( or reject ) an opinion without being a troll! Loved your video keep up the good work😊

If I were you, i'd give TGATB science units a try. I tried mammals for the first one last year and it was great. We really liked it and my kids asked to do it again, but we are going to do 2 more science units coming up soon. All about reading was a big favorite in our home and we also used Ambleside online for 5 years... we having to switch it up a bit this year. They have great free read options.

Do you use Explode the code along with TGTB language arts program?
I have a dyslexic son who I had to bring right back to the basics. We were doing Abeka...way to advanced for him. Now we are doing AAR and Explode the code. I feel like we need a bit more and was looking at TGTB.

I hear you loud and clear. Some things work and some things don't. Sometimes you just can't explain it. I get it!

@@sixheartshomeschool Peace Out!!!!! It's written all over their face!!!!! Girl- I hear ya. 😉 And for me, I want to keep pushing through- nope. I've learned to just be done. I just posted a video about a curriculum subject that just didn't work. I was so hesitant about posting it but you know what, someone out there feels the same and can relate sooooo......Kudos to YOU for sharing your raw honesty in your videos. You've got a new sub here my friend. 👍

I have a few on my shelf that I’m waiting to read for when they’re older that may work for you! Inside Out & Back Again, Hello, Universe, The War That Saved My Life, Flora & Ulysses, The Vanderbeekers of 141st Street

I completely agree. TGTB LA is definitely not for struggling readers. I started out with it with my twins. My daughter picked up reading very quickly and it works great for her. I use All About Reading for my son. I LOVE TGTB curriculum but their LA is definitely fast paced/robust.

Appreciate this video so much. And I agree with TGTB. I had to go down a level for my 2nd grader.

I so wanted to love sassafras but that book 😭😭😭…it was so bad. I couldn’t even finish the curriculum. This year we are going to give science shepherd a try. Thank you for your honest reviews

Oh my goodness, I tried Sassafras a few years ago when I needed something easy and figured audiobook science would be perfect. It.was.horrible. Such a terrible book with a few animal facts vomited out.

Sassafras science was not a good experience for us either. The read aloud was definitely not good. I would basically read the first and last sentence of each paragraph and could still get the point across.
I've seen others use just the teachers guide and logbook and do their own thing (takes planning like you mentioned), and they were successful with just those. It would be interesting to try it that way in the future.

My son was the same with explode the code for learning letters, I switched him to AAR and he was able to retain the letters so much better.

Explode the code claims they use the same method. It's all about reading.

It just stinks you have to do a disclaimer about your opinions! Ugh!
