    How will we treat Glaucoma?
The first line of treatment is by just using drops. That's most common. The drops lower the
pressure and you put them in for the rest of your life every night. But, we need to know we can't just use drops and never do any of the other tests because we need to establish trends in order to know whether the drops that you are using is doing the actual job. If we see that you are quite resistant and the drops after a few months or even years of treatment is not effective enough, the next line of treatment will be what we call a SLT laser. This is not an invasive procedure. It is similar to the machine that you normally sit in with your chin and your forehead against a bar.
What Dr. Aleksic does. He will open the drainage system of your eye with laser so that more of your fluid that's building up causing the pressure can drain and it lowers your pressure. This does not necessarily mean that you will be off the drops completely but over time if we see that your pressure remains low enough, we can slowly take you off the drops. If that is also not effective enough, the next procedure is what we call a Trabeculectomy. That means doctors have an in hospital, in theater procedure and doctor actually creates a valve for the fluid to drain more efficiently.
