Beaver, Batman, The Man from UNCLE, Family Affair, and Paul Newman, all in one movie!
The actors who played Miss Canfield and Mr. Rutherford on Leave it to Beaver (and later in Still the Beaver), Diane Brewster and Richard Deacon, respectively, played alongside Paul Newman in the movie The Young Philadelphians, which was released in May 1959, as LitB was ending its second season.
Brewster, who played Beaver’s first teacher (and later Grant Avenue Elementary School principal on Still the Beaver), played Newman’s mother in the high society soap opera. The movie begins with Brewster marrying a man played by TV’s Batman, Adam West, only to find out on her wedding night that her groom is incapable of loving her. She then goes out and has sex with a blue collar man played by Brian Keith (Uncle Bill of Family Affair), and finds out hours later that her new husband was killed in an accident. The one-night stand results in a baby boy, but Brewster’s character doesn’t want to marry the blue collar father because her son could be snubbed in social circles. That son grows up to be a handsome attorney (Newman).
Deacon played a butler who is grilled on the stand by Newman at the end of the movie in order to prevent a murder conviction for his buddy, a man played by Robert Vaughn (Napoleon Solo of The Man from U.N.C.L.E.).

Some very strange casting here as Diane Brewster is playing Paul Newman's mother, when she's actually 6 years younger than he is. It's nuts, but somehow it does seem to work. Such is Diane's talent.

Not so nuts, only nuts if she was being cast to only play Newman's mother when he was adult, but if you watch this clip or the movie, you'll see Diane had to start out playing a very young woman on her honeymoon who appears to be about 20-ish. If they had cast a woman 20 years older than Newman, that actress would have been close to 60 years old and could never have played a 20 year-old bride convincingly. This way, Diane can look like young bride and then with make-up it's easier to also play that same woman as young man's mother and closer to 60 towards the end of the movie.
