you know that moment, when you're watching an interview with Alan Rickman and you can really tell how uncomfortable he gets. For the dunderheads of all interviewers: avoid the word "villian" in Mr Rickman's presence and you've covered one of the major problems already
Those people talking about how he always plays the villain in movies have not seen half of his films obviously. Alan has played romantic characters equally, if not more often. Plus, you can't put a label on a character and conveniently call him "evil". It's just wrong. These parts are potential personalities, and personalities are much too complex to be easily described with one word like "evil" or "bad". I believe this is what Alan is trying to put across, and it is why he always argues with interviewers who are of that opinion. GO ALAN
''I don't label the characters I play, they're just people to me, they want different things.'' -- important lesson learned from Alan Rickman: Don't judge or label people, see them as people, not some imaginary judgements - see what's closer to the truth - they just want different things (but have the same human needs and feelings with every one of us human beings).
True that, i also thought wow! Amazing!!! The way he sees people. Also the end of the video when he talks about the Sherif of Nottingham (he is just a guy with a check list of what he wants in life and he is working to get them)
I was getting mad when they kept asking him or saying that he plays the villain. I admire that he lets each kid experience the story and not ruin it for them :)) 💖
WOW! I didn't realize how many times (and these are just a few) that he's been asked that same genre of questions! I imagine answering them would get pretty tedious, pretty quickly! He seemed pretty gracious about answering though, over and over and over and.. He's been in SO many different movies, plays etc.., and was such a wonderfully versatile actor!
I love his resistance to tell what Jo told him in the beginning. I know since interviews with Jo, she's said it, but he's never told, and I think that's great. I did find him through Harry Potter, and you can't blame me for loving him for that, but I've seen his other movies, and I think he's such a brilliant person.
American interviewers don't seem to do their required research, and their uneducated questions come across as self righteous and arrogant. This combination of qualities is at the very least unpleasant and disturbing.
Thumbs up for Alan's extraordinary patience, I'd say. Please, I am begging you, interviewers, for Alan's and for god's sake (oh wait they're quite the same, Dogma...), for their sake - please come up with an intelligent question that suits this intelligent person and not repeat the same questions that he has been asked for decades. Or if you can't, don't interview him then, stop wasting his time! I bet he prefers staying at home in his pajamas rather then waking up early to stare into smilies...
He definitely has the right to be annoyed that he's always seen as the villain. Even in Harry Potter I never saw Snape as a villain! I saw him as Alan Rickman, the brilliant potions master/defense against the dark arts teacher with the voice of a god. His role in Dogma as Metatron, the voice of God is my personal favorite simply because he quite literally has the voice of god.
I too only knew him for Die Hard and Robin Hood. BUT 3 weeks ago, after seeing Die Hard (one of my favourite childhood movies) on TV, I decided to finally watch the H Potter series. Gosh! I fell hopelessly in love. In these past 3 weeks I've watched nearly all his movies and interviews. And yea, interviewers did tend to ask him the same thing, stressing the word 'villain". The poor man' s smile always faded when he heard that, but he was always incredibly polite and gently answered all the damn questions.
me too, i don't really like celebrities, most of them pretends but alan is different, he just do what he wants and do it at his best. he is not that popular around the world coz he do not seek publicity, he loves his job and did it professionally. i love him. that all i wanna say.!!! :D I'm sure i'm not the only one. right?
Interviewers- Stop with the villain question already! He's had to endure this same stupid question for over 20 years. How many times does he have to answer this before you get the point? Try to use more than 10% of your brains (assuming you even use that much) to think up more thought provoking questions in the future.
Ok as a young actor I feel this on a spiritual level. The last role I played was Rizzo in Grease and now I'm afraid of playing any other "slutty anti-hero" (using the term very loosely) character until I've played at least one other "hero", because I just _will_ get typecast. People are doing it to me already - "You'd make a great "Cheryl Blossom" kind of character." Yeah, I probably would - but I also want to push myself outside of that. If I know I can do it, it's not a challenge so it's less interesting. Nobody talks about that time I sang a song in fluent Irish on stage. Just because less people saw it, doesn't make it any less cool. But it's far removed from the show that got me the most attention. Please stop labelling actors, it's so very irritating and it makes all the "little" stuff we involve ourselves in feel meaningless, when in fact it's the smaller stuff that ends up being the most emotionally rewarding passion-projects. Everyone remembers Alan as the Die Hard "villain", the "strict" Potions Master and as the "wicked" Sheriff of Nottingham. I much prefer his work in Truly, Madly, Deeply, and in Snow Cake. Those two films really show his talent and range as an actor. He's romantic, and sad, and sensitive. And that's coming from a crazy Harry Potter fan. I prefer Jamie and Alex over Snape. And I _really like_ Snape. I just feel like rather than Alan being picked for Snape, it feels like Alan picked Jamie and Alex because he liked the roles (though I could be wrong). Well this became a rant. I hope it was of use to somebody.
She did! She had him in mind from the beginning - it was the film people's fault that they offered it to someone else first. Fortunately, he turned it down and it reverted to Alan Rickman. Can you imagine anyone else playing the role that was based on him in the first place. I can't!
as much as i LOVE harry potter and alan's character, i have to say this. Alan Rickman should NOT be known only as ''Professor Snape''.He's done so many other things and movies and played so many other wonderful characters with such perfection! I hate that interviewers dont research about his movies before they interview him! Hes so much more than just Professor Snape, he deserves better!
The story of Harry Potter will only truly be over as long as none here are loyal to it... Alan Rickman is keeping Harry Potter alive for children everywhere! I love him and I love this.
I'm 21 years old and from America, and I can name at least 10 different movies that Alan Rickman deserved awards for off the time of my head. I LOVE him as Severus Snape, but he's done theatre work, and directing and all sorts of other movies that he was incredible in. Poor guy shouldn't have to suffer because the interviewers are inept. They should seriously learn a little respect and at least discreetly do their research BEFORE the interview if they aren't big fans.
I imagine a stupid journalist "Why are you so good playing a ..." and Alan on his mind : " Shit, I answered this question all my life stupid person ! "
He has been other people besides Snape. I do wish that some people would learn this... I watched him singing "pretty women" and every other comment was about "snape singing". He's a brilliant actor no matter what you see him in, villan or love intrest or anything. I would do anything to be able to just sit down and talk to him for a handful of minutes and these reporters sped it mentioning twenty year old movies...
This must be the down side of being a famous film star. Getting asked the same bloody question again and again..............and again. Yes of course he has to get out and do these tedious interviews, but yeeeee Gods surly they could think of something else to ask him. Every single interviewee should be totally embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.......
"And also... the books over for you but as I found last weekend I was at a friends house and a 6 year old knocked on the door knowing I was there and he was wearing a full robe and holding a broomstick. You know he's only on DvD 2 or 3 or something, you just can't spoil his fun." YOU TELL HIM SNAPE! :D oh and btw that "friends house" he spoke of was my house. ;) hahahah! *iwish*
He stays so poised and polite. I would have totally lost it. The same stupid questions!!! Btw; I am not a super fan, but if you ask me about one of my fave Alan Rickman roles, it would be his role in Sense and Sensibility: that was done so wonderfully. I barely remember the other actors in that movie.... He wasn't just a good guy, he was THE ULTIMATE good guy.
Other roles he had. You gotta watch his independent movies, like Closet land, very political, An awfully big adventure, very artistic, Snow cake, beautifully done, The song of lunch, a short poem adaption. My most fav is The Preacher, part of Revolutionary Witness 1986. Alan Rickman is not just am actor, he is a political being and he has his ideas about things, his agenda leads him to live and work the way he does, constantly contributing to society in many ways. He doesn't just do movies for
I was thinking the same thing. I’m watching a lot of Alan Rickman movies and i noticed that he doesn’t play the bad guy that often at least the movies that i’ve seen
@jazzandmint I agree, he has played so many roles and everything he has played is awesome, he is also in Dogma and Galaxy Quest as a comic relief for the movie and he rocks in everything he has every played!
He doesn't always play the villain he plays the antagonist sometimes when you create problems for the protagonist it doesn't make you the villain it makes u the antagonist
oh my goodness! When will the people interviewing him at 1:52 realise that an actor "plays" a character. The character =/= the man Alan Rickman. It is his interpretation of a character! Why, o why would you do that to a genius like him!
Seriously, those interviewers were the worst, they kept spoiling things, messing up titles, cutting him off.. I got annoyed just sitting behind my computer watching it, poor Mr. Rickman must have been furious.
OMG, this POOR man!!! The problem with the interviewers (and the majority of the population who also hold the same beliefs) is that, just because a character isn't particularly nice or isn't always doing the "right" thing somehow means they're not a person with thoughts and feelings and, therefore, a "villain." Don't worry Alan, your fans understand you!! =)
By now I'm sure Alan has prepared himself for the token villan question when he sits down for every interview. Maybe that's why he has such a peculiar face when he first arrives for them. Like he's thinking "okay what same, boring, idiotic questions does this person have for me today and which ones will I even be able to answer?" Poor guy!
Bloody hell! The poor man. What a load of nonsense he had to wade through far too often. Kudos for staying classy when most mortals would have gone flippyapeshit on some of those reporters/interviewers... :P Miss him every day.
I have to admit that I first knew of Alan Rickman through Harry Potter but recently I have been watching a lot of other movies in whi h he has been in a major role. He is amazing in those and it infuriates me when people label him as the villain actor because he has played other roles just as much.

I've watched almost every video of him on youtube, and I can't find a single interview where someone asks this... But I'm so curious! He really has done everything from Closet Land to Sense and Sensibility... I wonder which was his favorite, or rather which was most fun to play... Can anyone shed some light or share a clip of an interview? :)
That's always wonder. I saw the Trailer for Gambit here.. and all the little fangirls had to say was OMG Snape's Naked. Seriously. There is more to this fine actor than just Severus Snape
@SeverusSnapeHeart He doesn't want to reveal Snape's true motives in the media because many little kids haven't read all the books or seen all of the movies and he doesn't want to spoil the story for them.
Lots of American audiences dont watch movies out of their country so they dont know the amount of work he has done. They just know die hard n robin hood and that's basically that. So they kept asking the same question, very ignorant question bout him being villain which he hates. Its like denying all his other roles and let's make it clear Alan has the most beautiful and artistic choice of work to be engaged in. In Hollywood movies he always have those nasty roles, kind of in contrast with othe
Wow, when you string all those awful interview questions together like that, it's a freaking miracle that Rickman hasn't gone postal on someone by now, or at least had his head explode from pure bottled up frustration. For the record, my favorite Alan Rickman character is Col. Brandon, the perfect conglomeration of sweetness, nobility and honor. Can't get any further from evil, imo.
He really is sensible when it comes to naming him a villain, isn't he? Brillaint actor and although i feel sorry for him ,he has to know that his profession includes putting up with many idiots. All he can do is to sit and listen and make sure that the journalist is the only idiot in the room.
how for holy heaven , could this couple of journalists could be THIS rude towards such a lovely human being as he was! I mean , when she says : " you're scary" ... does this lady kiss the mirror with that mouth? don't think so. And, BTW, Alan Rickman will always be the most charming, smartest , kind , awesome , fucking sexy human being had lived in this earth 👑🌹a true king....
you know, I have to piggy back off what you said. As many times as those interviewers kept asking him over and over about bad guys, I'm pretty sure that Alan was probably thinking, "I really wish these daggone interviewers would stop asking me these questions cause I'm about sick and tired of answering them. I don't just play bad guys."
Im really Mad at the guy who called him Jerk like. I hate you!. And i hate the girl who said "Oh mA GhAd ProfEssOr SnaPe" FYI its Alan Rickman. i hate yall! Hes lovely and... RIP King of acting!
I wonder what the kids in his family felt. They must have really hated him after a while because whenever they wanted to get information out of him about his Potter character or the story, he would have been like, "wait and see...don't want to ruin the story for you, etc". It must have been hell for them.
I love how protective he is of the Snape character and he obviously really respects him.
"That's only 20 years old."
"That's 18 years old."
".........Right."
Lmao
HAHSJAHZH 💀💀
HWHAJSAJDJSKSK i cackled
the age doesn't matter, HE IS SEXY.
Yesssss
His voice only is a -
Hopefully they are not annoying him in Heaven. RIP, Mr. Rickman
I love how he tries to keep the magic alive for the younger audiences. I really respect him
"Bottle rocket opens-"
Alan: "shock."
LMAO SERIOUSLY
you know that moment, when you're watching an interview with Alan Rickman and you can really tell how uncomfortable he gets.
For the dunderheads of all interviewers: avoid the word "villian" in Mr Rickman's presence and you've covered one of the major problems already
Yep - Don't judge in Mr Rickman's presence XD
2:10 "I was just a guy" RIP Sir Alan Rickman
Yeah and the way he says it hilarious 😂
Those people talking about how he always plays the villain in movies have not seen half of his films obviously.

GO ALAN
He doesn't just play snape, snape IS him. You read the books and it's like J.K thought, 'hey, I'll make Alan Rickman the potions master'
Maybe she really did :o
Gosh! That voice, that presence, that smile, that aura! We love you Alan, our potion master forever! RIP wonderful man!
"I was just a guy."

Did she really say " Oh My God professor Snape"? What the fuck?!
Haha she is a HP fan obviously 😂
i don't play villian... im play interesting people... love uu alan!!!
I died laughing at.. "Oh my god professor snape!" haha That would probably be me..
YOU were a sweet soul, Alan. Rest in Peace, you angel.

Jesus! What patience!!!!!! Why people don't make smart questions?
it's so adorable how he tries to stop interviewers from spoiling the plot to people who haven't read the books or seen the movies yet.

He really doesn't play the bad guy a lot lol. He's done a lot of the main character, good guys stuff if you look at all of his movies. xD
I was thinking the same thing. I’m watching a lot of Alan Rickman movies and i noticed that he doesn’t play the bad guy that often at least the movies that i’ve seen
Rest in Peace and Paradise Alan Rickman.
lol 2:38 "Bottle Rocket opens on...." (Alan in the background "Bottle Shock!"
the interviewers can't even get the name of the movie right.
@jazzandmint I agree, he has played so many roles and everything he has played is awesome, he is also in Dogma and Galaxy Quest as a comic relief for the movie and he rocks in everything he has every played!
money or just because, he carefully chooses to do whatever he does. Thats why I enjoy him so much.
I can't believe she just comes straight out and nearly tells all about the character Snape.
love the thing about the 6 year old.
He doesn't always play the villain he plays the antagonist sometimes when you create problems for the protagonist it doesn't make you the villain it makes u the antagonist
Truly Madly Deeply. The first thing I saw him in, so I actually find it hard to think of him as a villian or "bad guy".
oh my goodness! When will the people interviewing him at 1:52 realise that an actor "plays" a character. The character =/= the man Alan Rickman. It is his interpretation of a character! Why, o why would you do that to a genius like him!
1:04- the books are over to you...
Yeah Alan. You tell that jerk!
Seriously, those interviewers were the worst, they kept spoiling things, messing up titles, cutting him off.. I got annoyed just sitting behind my computer watching it, poor Mr. Rickman must have been furious.
OMG, this POOR man!!! Poor guy! He deserves so much better than these stupid questions!
He's actually kinda hilarious in Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. :P
Bloody hell! The poor man. What a load of nonsense he had to wade through far too often. Kudos for staying classy when most mortals would have gone flippyapeshit on some of those reporters/interviewers... :P Miss him every day.

My favorite Alan Rickman role was in Galaxy Quest.
Thanx for your wonderful parody about journalists who haven't any clue about Alan's acting and acting-abilities!
He would be the BEST pick as Mr. Edward Rochester for "Jane Eyre".
god, he really, really doesnt want to be remembered for playing a villain. seriosuly, i reckon he'll purposely never play a bad guy again
Yes, wouldn't he? Dark, firm, determined, with a hint of a good inside... AND a lovely voice. He'd be the perfect pick.
That's always wonder. I saw the Trailer for Gambit here.. and all the little fangirls had to say was OMG Snape's Naked. Seriously. There is more to this fine actor than just Severus Snape
Is it just me who think Alan would do a FABULOUS Mr Rochester in a new "Jane Eyre"?
Sometimes I think the older actors in Harry Potter are even more proud of it than the younger ones
Not denying that! It's just he has done so many other fantastic oustanding films but all they ever want to question him about are those two films!!
@SeverusSnapeHeart He doesn't want to reveal Snape's true motives in the media because many little kids haven't read all the books or seen all of the movies and he doesn't want to spoil the story for them.

He really is sensible when it comes to naming him a villain, isn't he?

HWHEJSJS frr
you know, I have to piggy back off what you said. As many times as those interviewers kept asking him over and over about bad guys, I'm pretty sure that Alan was probably thinking, "I really wish these daggone interviewers would stop asking me these questions cause I'm about sick and tired of answering them. I don't just play bad guys."
Ffs the first guy 💀
Now, thankfully..the man can be left alone and relax now that its over. lol Im glad hes opening up about it all now.
Im really Mad at the guy who called him Jerk like. I hate you!.
And i hate the girl who said "Oh mA GhAd ProfEssOr SnaPe" FYI its Alan Rickman. i hate yall! Hes lovely and... RIP King of acting!
3:26 I laughed so hard! "Uhhhrm..." xD
I wonder what the kids in his family felt. They must have really hated him after a while because whenever they wanted to get information out of him about his Potter character or the story, he would have been like, "wait and see...don't want to ruin the story for you, etc". It must have been hell for them.
4:50-HE LOOKS SO SEXY WITH LONG BLACK HAIR!
SNAPE AS WELL!
1:53 Whahahahah badass Rickman.
I have some interesting questions now after listening to the same question over and over. Poor guy, being labelled 'villan' all the time.
Omg I fell ill at ease for him.
Awwwful. Poor Alan :)
God! I must get so frustrating for him!! Why can't i be an interviewer D:
