  • Only one house in my street had no piano - mine. This is the story of how my Dad got me a piano and delivered it home. He was employed by English Electric which meant he knew a great many people who could help solve nearly any problem, including obtaining a piano and transporting it to our house.

Thank you John. There's too much bad news about, so I think the occasional little escape can be a good thing.

Hi Paul I remember those locked pianos I was itching to learn but unfortunately none of my family were musical and the piano teacher was a nasty piece of work who would smack you for the least indisgression at 16 I bought and old German upright which had a nice tone
I borrowed a self teaching book from the library and taught myself to read music. It was very laborious but I did learn cockles and mussels at the end of the book I used a church hall piano with broken keys here and there
I had a grand piano but due to divorce Now I have a knight school piano bought for twenty pounds. Extremely good
I now play classical but not great because I never had the proper teaching only a local one who wasn't that good. I've since taught myself also using yt piano teachers etc
I've since bought and sold about twenty pianos
I've learnt a few chopin etudes so haven't done too bad
I have learnt your clare music by Gilbert O Sullivan. Nowhere near as good as you though

Thank you for your comment ciara. Locked pianos were the most annoying thing. The bolt would slide out then sideways as the key was turned, I don't know if you remember that detail. Yes, it was a fight to get near a decent piano, but amazing whenever you got the chance. I am more than happy to help teach any song to you, just send a private message.

You get a twinge when you hear your own birth year mentioned. That fragile time when you were 100% dependent upon others to sustain your existence.
