He uses the guitar hero world tour kit with the legacy adapter. There is a midi in on the kit but you don't have access to pro on rb4 if you use this method. If you play rb3 or have a ps4 with rb4, you can use the madcatz midi pro adapter to connect your kit. There is no midi pro adapter yet for xb1 so you have to use the guitar hero kit if your on xbox.
