Fourth valve can often perform (tune and pitch) better than one & three. You can also substitute first and second with third. More valves more fun, just like six flags.

The first 3 valves work as they do on a normal flugelhorn or trumpet, and the fourth valve works to lower the pitch by a perfect 4th, like on a 4 valve euphonium or tuba, which is the same as the valve combination 1+3. It makes the lowest chromatically playable note a C# (concert B) rather than an F# (concert E).

Traditionally it's a half step on valve 1 and a whole step on valve 2 and a step and a half on valve 3 so presumably it's 2 steps on valve 4
