when I read a certain hunger the writing came off as so pretentious to me personally. The character is not charming enough to carry the book, and all the instances where we're supposed to see her charm, we're told that she was being charming, we never get to see it. The books is surprisingly "Tell don't show" for a book filled with lengthy descriptions meant to make you imagine and feel.
I read my year of rest and relaxation at 13 and it influenced me way too much at the time. I reread it recently and ugh I shoudn't have read it at that age
My issue with so many straight women talking about the male gaze is that they've clearly never been to a gay club or spent any time in gay male online spaces. Men are absolutely like that to other men too. Pretty much everyone I know who's into men and who was born with a d**k has been harassed or assaulted at some point in similar ways to pretty much every afab I've ever met. The issue is not sexualized art or whatever, it's that men have been raised to see consent as optional.
The Convenience Store Woman is literally just autistic and living her best life. She's perfect and I love her and wish her nothing but the best
@@sersergv me too and that’s why the fact that she felt so directionless after losing her job at the end WRECKED ME 😭

Thank you so much, I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
