@@keepmovingforward1722 It happened in the build up to Survivor Series 2013. WWE didn't like Daniel Bryan being over so they tried giving the yes chants to Big Show when he was in a fued with Randy.
@Chuck Buskee There was some precedent for it, in that the Yes (and No) chants were associated with him, but they started getting over with the majority of the audience during the Team Hell No days, where Kane would also usually lead the contradicting chants to get the crowd to mock Bryan while he was still turning babyface. Then they both got involved in the Authority storyline, along with Big Show. That's not to say they weren't trying to steal Daniel Bryan's thunder, they absolutely were, just that they had good reason to think they *could* just do it and get away with it, and that most of the audience, especially the kids, would rather cheer for the Big Show than the guy who, just a year ago, was an abusive boyfriend that the WrestleMania crowd cheered at seeing lose in 18 seconds to Sheamus.
@chuckbuskee Smarks =/= all fans. Yea, the people who knew him from ROH always loved him. Smark-heavy-post-WrestleMania crowds loved him. That doesn't change the fact that circa WrestleMania 28, Daniel Bryan was a heel who had just started his main event push. The crowd at WrestleMania 28 didn't even boo his squatch. I'm not saying anyone "turned their back" on him, I'm saying you're overestimating how popular he was before his catchphrase era.
The worst part of Sandow Vs Cena is that the commentators kept saying Sandow started it...CENA IS THE ONE WHO PULLED HIM BACK WHEN HE WAS ABOUT TO WALK OFF AND THEN YEAH...HE BEAT THE PISS OUT OF HIM WITH THE BRIEFCASE!😂
The thing that makes Henry beating Ryback at 'mania 29 so baffling is that it was RYBACK who then went on to start a feud with John Cena for the WWE Championship the very next night on Raw. Why not give him the win to establish some credibility before his title program?
The minute Sandow failed his cash in, I knew he was buried. Legit got me from not watching the product for that shit. I was fed up with the Super Cena bullshit Vince was doing.
If you were a kid just getting into wrestling around this time it just makes you see how much bad material was around quality material whenever you look back. Still a bit like that today with WWE but not quite as much as 2010-2013.
I had all but forgotten about how dirty they did Damien Sandow. What a horrible, horrible mistake to not put the belt on him at that point. They didn't need to give him a clean win over Cena, but why not have a huge screwjob angle? God dang now I'm pissed again. LOL
@@zachstolpa6521 he was on fire for a while. It would have been a great shakeup. Fans were sick of the same 2 champions over and over. It's the same thing they've repeated and lost fans over.
The only bad thing about the Sandow match is how it ended. Him teasing first, then beating up Cena, saying My Time is Now, decent match before the AA was beautiful, if they pulled the trigger on him then when they should he would have ran with it.
I feel like the right call was to just do what all heels do and have him cash it in after he gets beaten to death by another opponent. This was a very strange direction WWE took this heel. Lots of wasted potential too.
You missed the vital detail about the Sandow cash-in. Sandow was beat by a one-armed Cena. Cena after Sandow worked over his shoot injured arm prior to the cash-in.
TBH, people kind of over-hate cena vs rock 2. If you go back and watch that match, they really played with the crowd working psychologically. For those who watched it a year prior, know about the spots that I am talking about. They gave their everything, and after a few minutes, the crowd was into that. And for newcomers like me who never watched it before, it was a good match. The only dis-interest of some people was the problem. They just don't want to see that, because punk wasn't in the main event and wwe champ. But bruh, both rock and cena were far more popular than him in 2013. Go watch their matches and crowd reactions in 2013. Punk do revived and was amazing after payback.
I will speak as someone the wwe was targeting being a kid watching it starting in late 2011. Again I was just one of many kids watching but easily the coolest and THE go to guy was punk compared to anyone else regularly active on the roster at that time. You’re right more casuals knew rock and cena more than punk but to those who weren’t casual cm punk was the guy.
True. It was a decent little match, neither man's best work, but decent nonetheless. CM Punk cult of a fanbase are the only ones still crapping over it to this day.
Build up sucked, literally fucked punk out of an amazing opportunity, he had the match of the night as well. The match its self was good but everything else just stinks up wm 29. Time in and time out they choose to be ignorant and avoid pushing people who deserve it. John cena didnt even need the rumble win either LMAOO they coulda just ran it back. It was such a predictable and boring story line. Imo comparable to triple h's reign of terror from 02-05. Tbh personal opinion Rock vs Cena 2 was pretty great and it was better than the other matches on the card also I love how Curtis Axel was replaced by Daniel who? Lmao. Main Event 2014 was the best year it ever had
I don’t know why, but matches that kinda put two big men in a ring in a 1v1 will either go very well with good sequences and spots. Or pretty bad with like one good spot
While it was a good match, you could have given Sandow a short run with the main title, had a decent feud with Cena and still have a good match. You don't need to bury a wrestler and partially kill the concept of the MITB contract- you just need to go to Dark Elevation.
Man I really miss Damian Sandow but glad he returned to play Elias while actual Elias was Ezekiel still. Alicia Fox was pretty polished tbh and Natalya was a natural talent
The cena/sandow match only happened case Vince decided to combine the belts and had to get rid of the briefcase. In an alternate universe we got Bryan vs sandow for the undisputed wwe championship .
About time we start to highlight WWE's poor treatment of Damien Sandow. The man was and is ludicrously underrated. Had WWE any sense at all we would have seen a new, unique world champion that year.
@@DefinitelyReagan now I know you're wrong. A preshow match did not out pop the main card. His pop came more from eliminating the Miz than from Sandow being over.

Damien Sandow vs John Cena shouldn't be on this list. It was the best match of Damien Sandow's career, and definitely the best failed money in the bank cash in.
Cena squashing Sandow at the cost of the mitb briefcase really didn't hurt Sandow's credibility as it's not like he had any in the first place. He was mostly a low card jobber before and after winning the briefcase, a win which was more so to give Cody Rhodes some support as a baby face then give Sandow a push. Hell Sandow was losing to Santino clean on Smackdown a month before his failed cash in on Cena.
