They do that everyday with respect to lesser issues when they go around students to report grades, absence/tardy, a student who left campus, unpaid fees, etc. Allowing a child to live a dual life between school and home is unhealthy. Remember that in CA, the school (while not telling the parent) is allowed to counsel the student "as they see fit" and to sign them up for LGBTQ club, etc. The parent needs to have a voice in this!!!
