Joking aside, awesome video I've never looked at this nation in MA. I played a lot of EA and was disappointed in them so i never came back. Maybe now ill give them a shot. Thank you as always GC
Star children are arguably the best assassins in the game. They are spam able, cheap, with research AND they double up as communion slaves. And they are amphibious too! One of my very favorite mages in the game. Now granted, they need a Bottle of Living Water to be really effective, but I mean that just costs water gems which are not that precious. Hard to overstate how useful these guys are. All that wrapped up in a nice package, costing you no more than 85 gold and 1 resource.
Thanks for the analysis, recruiting the slave mages vs Starspawn priests wasn't something i'd previously considered. From my own experience, I would say Magic 2 is highly recommended as mind blasters as well as most astral spells use MR which is reduced by 0.5 per magic scale.
Sorry about necroposting. Could having a vastness pretender increase their spawn rate? Just played a quick test game to check out the nation's feel and got 3 vastness summons out of 10 or 12 spawns. Could be a coincidence i suppose.
I sent an astral 10 firstborn of the star to the void gate and i got about 5 greater othernesses per turn, also i got 2 vastnesses, only downside was that he came back with insanity :/
Also I'm a biiiiig fan of the Uttervast. I mean, first of all, thematically it is cool af. And if you take it dormant, give it some death magic, rush alteration before it shows up at year one. Could even give it a point of earth too. Iron skin, Soul Vortex Uttervast is something to behold. Yeah you gotta thank scales for it a bit, but you've got some good cheap units so it's no tragedy
Did you mean his MA R'lyeh series? Because I saw that he uses it to troll people pretty well but he also seems pretty certain he's not gonna get anywhere close to winning.
I'm going to guess that the Recruitment Point cost on Hybrids is to represent the fact that they only come about when human women immerse themselves in special pools in R'lyehan coastal colonies to be impregnated by Deep Ones, something that I can't imagine happening *that* often. Otherwise yeah, it's super weird that such an average unit costs so much. Maybe it's for balance reasons?
Though anything from the void gate is not that reliable. So yeah. Going with Bless strategy is maybe not you best bet. On the other hand you can focus on other things.
Yeah, the void summons are IMO relevant. Not a main part of the strategy, but useful enough. Many of them are mind blasters, comparable to a 50 gold troop. Othernesses are decent blockers and greater are imo quite excellent, especially buffed. While you dont aim for a bless, youre likely to get something regardless, and then I'd prioritize penetration bonus, and apart from that whatever makes your othernesses tougher. If going Cold 3, Chill Aura isn't bad if you've got the points.
I'm sending my pretender God into that void gate whether you like it or not.

I wish the costal units were better, they're so good for thematic purposes.
Agreed. Or even bump down the Rec points so they are at least massable chaff
Arcane Finesse + Rune Smasher on communion-master Starspawn with shrouds casting Mass Enslave is just... so... fun. Unless you're not R'lyeh :D
Great vid, love this series. Hope your'e doing LA R'Lyeh next.

Uttervast is easy to deal with if the user isn't careful. Two words: Magic Duel.

What a fascinating nation.
I'll have to give the summoning pretender a go and see what happens at some point.
Crab hybrids have un-typed damage
Also: Could you do something about Abysia? I mean, they are tank, though don't know what to do "after late game".
La Rlyeh analysis?
Also, all void monsters are sacred
Also all void summons except for vastness are sacred

I see this as a win/win.

I think Nuclearmonkees LA Ry'leh playthrough showcased the power of the Uttervast very, very well

Yeah watched a bit. Wish he was as good as yt as he was at D5. His sound sucks :P and he is kinda very negative most of the time
I like Lucid's Ermor series in Dom4 more, where MA Rlyeh is the main antagonist
Might be MA, yes. The one on the Pankor map. And no, he's not gonna win, but as a water nation you kinda know that from the start.

I see King In Yellow is Sir Not Appearing In This Guide.
Wait, wait, wait... They don't have recruitable sacreds?!
Why would anyone do bless effects with them?!
Basically, you don't. Like MA Ulm, sort of, except R'lyeh's sacred mages are a lot less important than Ulm's sacred mages are.
All the void gate summons are sacred so.... theres that
