These fenders are made of plastic unlike classic 350 ones, hence don't go overboard in tightening them. The screws in the corner tend to crack the plastic fenders if you over-tighten them.
Yes, good advice - I recommend taking the screws and bolts off and leaving them off (keep them with the removed part of the fenders in case you want to remount.) The front screws have spacers so you have to leave them off or they will shake, rattle and roll!
Did you run into any issue with damage to the body from rocks, mud, etc kicking up? I want to take my flaps off but I'm not planning to replace them with anything.

No issues yet. But, I don't do much off road riding where that would be much more of a concern.
How you protect engine and oil filter against mud?
I live in the desert, no rain and no mud 😁 Just a sump guard to protect from rocks.
