Hi Sir... I am working to do a device using Swagelok cell using prepared activated carbon... Here you have mentioned about the percentage of binder used as 5%. Is the percentage of binder is good enough to get good voltage output, because more the binder, more the resistance.....Do you have any idea of how much amount of material has to be used to get good voltage output? Thanks in advance
In a lab testing environment, 5% is fine for high-power applications.

You can try making a carbon/binder mixture with viscosity closer to an ink and dip-coat the fabric.
Excellent presentation , How can we rectify the cracking problem of the slurry coated in battery grade aluminium foil ? Whenever it dry ,cracks are found in the coated material? PVDF as binder
Thanks. What you ask here is a complicated question that heavily depends on your slurry compositions. I would recommend you look into the rheology of your slurry. Hi, the amount of PVDF should be included in the video. That was 5 wt%. The amount of ethanol was arbitrary.
Great video. I was wondering is this type of consistency possible if using PTFE powder rather than 60 wt% dispersion in water? Thanks
Yes, the important thing is to have a thorough mixture of carbon with PTFE. Usually, having a solvent like ethanol helps.

@@MarquezBalingit Yes, you can. Try dissolving PTFE powder in ethanol first, before mixing it with the activated carbon
@@EChem_Channel I have like PTFE beads, and it is not dissolving with ethanol, so what has to be done for the beads?
@@nandhinidhanavel213 I never used beads, so I'm not sure what's wrong with it. Consider switch to powder and the dissolved form.
Nice video! I also have a question: I tried to reproduce your flexible electrodes. However, I always have the issue that the electrodes are cracking while drying. Do you have any suggestions how to avoid that? Could it come from the fact that I use a different carbon black from a different company? Or do I need to fold and roll the mixture longer?
Hi there, did the cracking happen during the drying or during the rolling? If it's the former, you may need to spend more time mixing the binder with the carbon. If it's the latter, you may need to repeat more fold and roll with adding ethanol in between.
@@EChem_Channel Hi, thanks for the help, I will tryout soon. It happens when I produced the film on the glass plate (after rolling). When the ethanol is evaporating (basically the "drying over night" step) after several minutes big cracks are apperaing
this can also be due to the particle size of your carbon material, especially if it was "home-made". make sure the particles are small enough before preparing the composite. roll out your electrode and fold in half at least 10 times or until you get the desired texture. but do not overdo it, too many rolls can cause the electrode to compact too much and begin to crumble. and yes, each subsequent addition of ethanol washes out your polymer, you can see this by the stains on the glass. Good luck with your experiments

Free-standing film means it can stand by itself without another substrate.
Instead of PTFE one can use PVDF?
Yes, if PVDF doesn't dissolve in your electrolyte, it is a good option too.

@@justinemarieabarro9406 you can bend it, but if you fold it, it might crack at the region of folding... It depends on how well your binder binds particles together.
Would be awesome if you could do a video with cmc sbr with activated carbon, water absorption of AC is very hard to do from my experience on films you need so much water to mix
