great review! the lens guard is removable, just not sanctioned by Insta360. I carry a couple of the 3rd party lens guard replacements with me on my trips ;) I also own the DJI A4 for 10 bit LOG and color grading but you're right, with this camera I haven't really had the need to do much color grading because it handles color/dynamic range quite impressively.
Yeah the images I got just by "point and shoot" came out great. Made the trip a little more hassle free. Still used my R3 at times for photos, but for this trip my go to was the Ace Pro.
Overall, yes. I mean you'd be good with the other action cameras if you're just snorkeling, but the battery life is excellent and you have the flip up screen.
Software? Video capture requires post production. Every device renders colors differently. You CAN'T escape it. That is when you step in as a "video editor" to correct color balance, hues, levels, shadow/highlight values. You can be a youtube person that doesn't care about the footage or you can be a PHOTOGRAPHER that actually understands that there are resources that allow you to take control over your final product. Be a Facebook content provider or be an actual serious artist. If you are on your phone this does not apply to you because you are not an actual artist, you are a social media addict. Hope that helps.

I've just started snorkelling and thinking about buying this camera. If it's only for snorkelling would you recommend this one?

How do you sort out the pink skin tones.

No, but very close. I love all the beaches in that area.
