- A zoo in China told visitors its sun bears are real, after videos of the animal standing like a person went viral on Chinese social media, prompting rumors that it was a human in disguise.

My first time seeing a bear was when one ran past me while I was driving a tractor in a hay field we were raking. The bear’s build and its gait even running on four legs had left me feeling kinda weird about it. Every time I described the event to others I’d say “it didn’t look like I expected, it looked more like a man in a bear suit”.

I read about a small zoo that had a large gorilla that was its star attraction and its biggest money maker. Unfortunately one day the gorilla died. Come on people, this is very simple. These bears have probably spent most of their life there or even born in the zoo. I might be the most qualified person to answer this question. I make costumes for furries professionally. That means I know the limitations of costume design AND the anatomy of animals vs humans. This is just a bear. Bears are plantigrade like humans so they look similar on two legs, but if you look at the way the fur on this bear stretches and moves with it’s movements you can know it is real living bear skin (attached to a bear) and not tanned bear fur or faux fur.

Sun bears are shaped a little weird. People think bear and picture grizzly or black bear, bears that live in colder climates and tend to bulk up to cope. Sun bears don't need tons of fat for insulation the way other bears do. This gives them a more slimline appearance. But that is most definitely a bear. I've seen grizzlies stand and wave. But I can assure you that he's not waving you over to talk about your cars extended warranty. A lot of it is probably just mimicry.

2) It’s standing on 2 feet because it’s what sun bears do. They have very good bipedal balance.
3) They aren’t starving the bear. Sunbears are naturally skinny. They only weight somewhere from 80 to 150 lbs.
4) It’s waving because it’s begging for food. Bears do this all the time, and sun bears are known to be really smart, so they do this a lot.

If they think these bears are humans……they should see the video that went viral of the bears that were walking up to tourist buses for food. I forget where it was recorded at, but it was at like a nature reserve or national park. Tourist buses were going by slowly for people to take pics. As they were going by, a group of about 6-7 brown bears were hanging around, and when a bus come to a stop, they would stand straight up, and walk towards the bus with their paws out like they were begging for food.
