  • Big Wall #11 of 14
"Following" up after our leading episode, we show you from your partner yelling "off belay", releasing the bag, cleaning up the anchor and ascending the rope with a few easy lower out examples when the gear isn't plumb below the anchor. You get two demonstrations to see what's different but also what's similar between the two.

RYAN you are contributing to more Extreme Sports than you could imagine. I found you lookin for soft shackles for my 4x4, I've always had an interest in climbing and a love failure analysis. So your channel is a perfect fit for my Brain.

I just happened to stumble across these videos and I used to do a lot of gym climbing 15 years ago and now I'm looking into climbing again and I'm very excited to get back at it

Watching this channel makes me want to try a bunch of this stuff out in a gym. The technical process of managing ropes and other gear looks really engaging and mentally stimulating. I just don't want to do it however many hundreds of feet above the ground as part of an all day (or longer) climb.

So I could do a big wall supporting a lead climber and never actually climb?

Ah…. You will be climbing…. Just not like the lead climber. Being the follower, you will have A LOT of work to do… and it’s a whole OTHER list of stuff to do… and it’s got to be done quick, or you are gonna slow the lead down..: you ALSO are going to have to belay him…. It’s a lot of work… just like leading… but ya’ll are splitting alllllll the work ya’ll got to do to move your campsite vertically up the side of a massive slab of granite… baking in the sun

Yes this is what my GF does mainly just supports. If the climbing is too hard either 2:1 or 3:1 or use an ascender. Its a fun time on the wall!

Need some advice, the start of this video says it's a follow up to a previous video. Where's the link for that? And if this is a 11 of 14 series. Where are the rest of the videos in the series? Great work and thanks but there's some many videos, and that's a good thing!

Have you break tested a metolius easy daisy? Is the 1.3 kN limit actually what they break at? Seems kind of sketchy to be untying from the rope (even if briefly) and having just those keeping you alive with no other backup?

    • @HowNOT2

why not just let the lead line hang free below you? why is the follower tied in at all? if you let it hang free, a grigri backup will feed nicely, and then you never have to take the grigri off the rope.
What do you do if you need to lower out longer than your docking cord?

Nice dude. What is this back up traction device (?) that J is using? So he is not relying on the Grigri.?

Quick question, what's Jeremiah's Personal anchor system? I assume it's explained in one of the numerous Hownot2 videos - if someone could just point me to it, that would be great

I'm having a hard time following the video because you look a lot like Michael Scott from the Office. Which leads me to believe that at any time you'll say 'That's what she said.' or Dwight will come stumbling in at any moment.

Why do you guys keep a non locker or locker keeping the top ascender locked onto the rope? ? How do you pass pieces ? I learned via Chris Macs stuff and never recommended it . ex: ua-cam.com/video/rPsiSu2lwpY/v-deo.html
Additionally, is the backup of a micro really necessary since it is basically a third ascender? Wouldn't a gri gri or backup knots provide more redundancy since they are different methods of keeping you connected to the rope?

So the reason I use a microtrax instead of grigri is because it auto feeds with the weight as you jug which speeds up that process since it doesn’t have to have the slack pulled through. Also, it’s a backup for when you have to pass your ascender and if it accidentally pops off during a traverse move.

@@jeremiahletourneau9951 I have a question that ties into this one, I think. Is there a reason you use a locker on the top of the ascender, but a non locker to attach your ladder? It seems more intuitive to do it the other way round.

  • @thatdude3943
