I'm 61 and using AI, it's a game changer for learning, it's like having your own personal tutor who doesn't get pissed off with a barage of endless questions about new or unknown terms or definitions. Wish this was around 40 years ago.
@@Ezra-wy7ux Same argument that was presented in the 70s and 80s. Robots are going to take all our jobs but what actually happened was an upshift to new skill sets and technologies. After all this time the Luddites are still about. Bet your kind of thinking doesn't extend to the technologies that bring you water, energy, your car, mobile phone and every other comfort that you enjoy 🙄

As a UX designer I was NOT expecting Design Thinking to come up here but it makes perfect sense at the same time.
Design Thinking will be integrated to everything. How to create a restaurant menu to how to design behaviours of your kids. Future will be interesting. Fellow UX designer.

This video was so packed with valuable information, no empty words no fillers. In just less than 10 minutes he got to explain the basis of design thinking with examples. But not just that it was about how to teach children, how the education has to be, how to cope with the change. Dr. Li Jiand is a man I will need to follow.
Oh gosh, the little people shuffling around rearranging their lives so AI Big Tech can make hand over fist billions as millions and millions will be devastated by the disruption that the little people are just supposed to accept as a given. It drives me nuts, this narrative of what humans must now do to accommodate the future determined by a relative handful of AI movers and shakers.

Empathy isn’t enough. Narcissists are highly empathetic, but then use their understanding of the emotional dynamic of a situation to manipulate others. AI needs, like people, to have understanding and prioritization of avoiding harm.

I agree with him 💯. Our kids need to learn how to interact with the existing technology and at a time when they are most creative. This guy is brilliant. We need more educators thinking this way
I agree with *you* 100%. (: IMO, It’s terrible that students are even prohibited from using technology that they will need as basic skills when they become adults. Dunno if anyone here is older than I am (: but I remember the days when calculators were banned in school. Kids learning AI today will be making decisions on what AI technology to use in their companies.
How much time until AI gets creative?, imagine you base the education of an entire generation on the creative process and in the moment they get to the working life AI replace them too...our brain has nothing magical, creativity can be AI simulated too, probably in a couple of years you will be able to adjust the level of metaphorical references in the AI essay that is directly related to you browse history so you can catch all the "winks"...the moment has not yet arrive but we have to face that in the future we would be physically and intellectually expendable.
University professors are so full of themselves.

I have never met a particularly creative child. I’m sure they exist (but even Mozart’s early compositions are vastly inferior to his mature output). Children churn out lots of garbled nonsense, because their brains are undeveloped, but that isn’t creativity. And a lot of their "active imagination", upon examination, is usually the product of media they are consuming (produced by creative, adult artists).
This is just as sentimental and ill-founded as the romantic "all children are naturally curious, until the system beats it out of them" meme. Some children are curious, yes; some adults are curious, too. In my experience most adults and most children are shockingly incurious. Teachers’ jobs would be much easier if most children were naturally curious about science! If children ask more questions, it is simply because they are more ignorant about the most basic and useful things.
Maybe I’m wrong here. But probably this perspective just rarely gets expressed? (I am fully anticipating a telling off for being a curmudgeon).

Incredible video. One could say that instead of giving the student a problem to solve. Asking them to think about a "problem" that can be solve will certainly spark some creativity and outside of the box thinking. Although Chat-gpt also can do it, for some topics involving emotions or feelings will be out of the equation.

chat gpt has a politically correct US west coast liberal bias. it does not answer the truth to any question that might challenge that. therefore it's ineffective at tackling deeply human topics for 99% of the human population

I think that’s the part that’s worrying for me because creativity has always been my strongest trait. This is the first time AI started encroaching in that space, and it’s no longer feeling as irreplaceable.
And someone who profits from this crap telling us how wonderful it is while promising strategies and giving none is an additional cause for worry. I wish governments would shut this crap down so that society can keep up. This is too much change too suddenly. I don't want to read something written by AI no matter how good it is. I know why Han treated C3PO like shit.

I worked as an ex-data scientist at a sizable corporation. Im watching this after automating an entire team, replacing them. But they left a junior and fired the entire team and me(im not in the team) last week.
I understand the logistics behind it: they think they can train the junior to monitor, let let go of me cause i get 3x more pay.
If things were good and expanding they woulda kept me but as they get into survival mode they simply want the least cost.
While i think that’s the dumbest decision, non-tech executives dont know that and dont care. I honestly thought i would be the one to survive if i am the one optimizing and automating things.
Im honestly lost as where to go cause things wont be too different in different companies as even top tech companies are laying people off at a massive scale, and i think it has more than just the economy to account for.
This means we have to evolve to adapt on this rapid change that technological advancement is affording us. Let us discover, try and secure opportunities to thrive in this ever changing world.

I worked with manufacturing efficiency for many years and have since retired. Just one of management's methods for solving problems was the DMAIC method. Define the problem, Measure the problem, Analyse the results, Implement the control method, and Control through measurement. And we taught this method to all of our employees.
The level of value is insane. I felt kind of stuck in my thinking process and this definitely helps
This is one of the best sub-10-minute content I have seen around. EO comes up with great topics, speakers, and production quality.
I think Dr. Li is totally on the right track. I wholeheartedly agree with his 0 to 1 vision. I think that is a KEY IDEA that needs to be implemented in the current educational system ASAP. Overall, a very refreshing exposure of a critical topic for the future of education and for the future of humanity.
I think one great solution for ai era is to do things personally instead of written homework at home for example. Then teachers can really analyze how their students are evolving the teachings, also stimulate more personal interaction than use ai as a secondary tool to help instead of do the work all by itself
Dr. Jiang, some questions for you: I can see the usefulness of AI for finding cures for diseases and helping business owners write copy. However, I think AI does more harm than good in the arts.
Having taken art from artists without their consent in order to train AI, such as ChatGPT, Midjourney, and Stable Diffusion, AI allows users to create work “in the style of” a specific artist or to input an artist’s name and output work that seems as though it was created by that artist. This directly uses that artist’s talent against them and diminishes their ability to make a living from their art. How is this empathetic? And why can’t AI companies simply remove this function, which, essentially, steals an artist’s originality and can lead to forgeries, copyright infringement, identity theft, and deepfakes? Even if an artist does not upload their work, others may do this, and so as long as we allow “in the style of” prompts and other prompts that allow users to input artists’ names, we are effectively pushing out people who are creative and replacing them with people who are less creative. How is that better for society?
I also do not understand why we are expected to readily embrace this technology when it’s clear that those behind it haven’t thought through its impacts on society. It’s nice that you want to figure out how to make AI work with education, but shouldn’t that have been a forethought rather than an afterthought? How many students will become overly reliant on AI before solutions are offered and widely disseminated? If we have even one generation of undereducated professionals in the medical and scientific fields, shouldn’t that be cause for real concern? And why weren’t teachers trained in how to spot work created by AI before this technology was released?
I dont think you understand ai very well.... you don't choose ai, like you don't chose a kid, you teach him once the structure is operational (when it's born) there is a lot of things you cant think of. AI isn't hurting arts, it is democratizing it. Everyone will be able to do anything. Problem is humanity does not have enough wisdom as a whole, people have no goals, no meaning in their life, they are on cruise control. Ai will sweep everyone and the majority is not ready mentally. It is happening whether we want it or not. There is no huge router somewhere that we can simply unplug/plug to restart. Ai is stealing artist? What's the difference between learning an artist and. Trying to reproduce it ? Design is redesigning. The only thing that change is the time it takes
@@Digit0wL I think the problem is that the tech community doesn't want to acknowledge that the process by which humans learn to create art is very different from that of AI and that copyright law was written for humans, not AI. Most professional artists attend schools or take online courses because, unlike AI, we cannot learn how to create excellent art by simply looking at copyrighted images on a screen or listening to copyrighted music. Usually, the process must be explained to you by someone else who also had it explained to them by someone else. You have to learn technique, theory, and (in most cases) technology. And in that learning process, every art teacher I have ever had has stressed the importance of developing one’s own unique style/voice as a condition for employment and survival. Standing apart from other artists-originality-is literally the bread and butter of every successful artist. Prompt engineers would like to “skip to the good part” by using the free labor of artists and stealing originality and voice under the guise of style. Note that Vice recently reported that much of the “art” that generative AI spits out is copyrighted and in over a third of cases, an exact copy of existing, copyrighted work. (See "AI Spits Out Exact Copies of Training Images, Real People, Logos, Researchers Find" by Chloe Xiang.)
This could mostly be solved very easily by not allowing users to input names of specific artists and not including work by living artists unless you have secured their consent.
@@Digit0wL Also, as a Black artist with a disability, it is infuriating to see tech corporations attempt to spin this as “democratizing” and an “equity” issue and go so far as to tout the use of their tech by some marginalized people as evidence that it is somehow progressive. There are BIPOC artists with disabilities whose work has likely been ripped off to feed these machines and to enable others to further rip off such artists. Also, as most know, artists are generally not privileged people. Many of us, even those who are not BIPOC and/or living with disabilities, struggle for decades to succeed in our crafts and make major sacrifices for the sake of our art. Few of us make the kind of money that the tech bros who are benefiting from this theft make. (This is particularly true for BIPOC artists who have disabilities and likely lack connections and, when disabilities are severe, employment opportunities.) A mantra of progressive movements should be: If your group’s path to success depends on the oppression of another already oppressed group, then it’s not a progressive path. It’s a divide-and-conquer strategy being used by the usual oppressors and you are merely a pawn in their colonial agenda.

And I actually point out that practically all artists are exploited, which is another reason I think stealing art from its original creators to train AI and, essentially, use those artists' art against them (putting those creators out of business) is immoral as well as likely illegal. I have taught creative thinking in the artistic perspective since i was 23. Its the most important type pf learning a person can receive besides critical thinking. It should literally be taught from kindergarten to university consistently.

If schools realised the potential of ChatGPT they would ensure every student had it in class, where it could act as a personal tutor at every student's desk, with the teacher guiding the whole process. It's possible that we are barreling towards a dystopian quality of life imbalance, but it's more likely that our societal values will shift. Being human is never irrelevant. Being a whale isn't irrelevant. Extrinsic value will just change.

@@new-bp6ixI think as art AI like Midjourney become more advanced, it’s inevitable that many artists will eventually lose their jobs. But that change should be a slow and gradual one otherwise it would suddenly put a lot of people out of jobs, so I do think more laws should be put in place to limit what AI can do.

Wow, great perspectives. Opened my eyes to more than a few concepts I hadn't thought of, thank you.
Recenly inventor Tom Furness reminisced about how having a toy robot when he was a kid (one I still have from when I was little!) influenced his ability to imagine the heads-up display we now experience as virtual reality. The toy literally had a sort of ‘scope’ in the back of its head through which a child could see things from the POV of the robot. Just this week as I consulted my ‘Dick Tracy’ wristwatch, watched a new episode of a favorite SciFi franchise on a “2001 A Space Odyssey”-style handheld TV screen, then had a conversation with an artificially intelligent ‘robot’ about the Socratic method, I realized I now get to play with most of the inventions that my inner child once could only dream of. (With the exception, so far, of jet packs and flying cars.) So tonight I happen across this professor speaking of the necessity of children being encouraged to have just such dreams -so that one day their fantasies can become everyone’s reality!
I think just like you about your goal! In the place I live the people needs more education. I dream about a concept for the last decade, something in my mind tells me that everyday.

Some amazing insights in here! I am very curious to see how AI will speed up medical research since a lot of the chart review is manually done by someone and is very tedious and slow. The comments about going with the flow of progress and all design is redesign was very helpful as well! Puts into perspective about how we should adjust to AI in the coming years
One good example is to look up the story of Jack Adraka. He was 15 when he invented a early detection cancer test. his biggest challenge was scientic research articles where all Paywall LOCKED through various universities. CHAT GTP is BREAK that paywall model, and allow anyone to research medical in the future.
UGH! I already hate how the medical industry uses AI to push out human jobs and interactions. Screw AI

@@yeahboi7562 when the war started in Ukraine, we got offline because the Russians destroyed our electricity infastructure. I did not have any work for 3 months, got a huge bank credit to buy powerbanks, and now cannot even fix my teeth (and I lost almost 10 teeth after they occupied my town and held us there in cold winter without food). I am also unable to work in any other fields because all my life I have been focused on jobs connected with computers, mainly teaching English online, and they stopped working when the Russians shut down the Internet. The whole country survived thanks to foreign humanitarian aid of food and clothes, and fuel. We were so poor.
I remember what happened to people's calculation skills when they got calculators. I still remember this because in my country school pupils started using calculators when I was in the 4th year of school. After a couple years nobody was able to do simple calculations, and we had to carry that calculator in our pocket, physically.
Now we are moving into the age when almost all thinking skills are going to be performed by bots. And the climate is changing, and the political situation is getting worse and worse with more militarization.
I cannot imagine what the people of the future are goin to eat when some Chinorussia destroys their power stations and Internet lines. Those Starlinks will also be shot down by anti-satellites.
I am thinking about how to safeguard my survival in those scenarios, and I wonder what you would suggest (and don't propose solar batteries, they will be useless when you have to migrate to another location).

Based on my experience in the past , i was kind of a person that always was looking to cheat the system , like a back door in the school , then in university was the same . I would say there are 2 ways of teaching !
The one (oldest conservative version ) : key words - mandatory , must be , if not read .... - students get penalized due to not following the conservative frame of the school or the teacher . This type of learning for me was the most boring and always as usual took the poorest scores ,as simply this way is cutting the way of 'implanting the seeds' for interest in learning to the students.
The second one ( new free version ) : key words - empathy , positivism , embrace creativity , exploring , allows the technology .... - this is the path that a lot of teachers and lecturers need to understand the constant improvement in the way of how the information needs to be provided and share their knowledge is the crucial for their personal success and the future success to the students .
The key point here is if they teach for the basic salary , or for the final outcome of their students .

I hate to say this but as students, you (I mean you students collectively, not you personally) don't really have an appreciation yet for how necessary that mandatory knowledge is. You're still learning, you haven't actually had years of experience at work and encountering all kinds of problems related to work. You may think that piece of knowledge is useless, a waste of time. You want to cut corner. But that's gonna make your knowledge full of holes like Swiss cheese, and it'll bite you back later when you actually need it. Teachers and the education system know what you'll most likely need, because they've spent years figuring that out. That's why they make you study them.
I myself was once like you (we all are). I've spent my uni years studying classes that were so boring and "a waste of time". But now when I've gone through years of PhD study and become a uni lecturer myself, I'm actually grateful for those classes. In my lab and in my classes, I've seen many other students struggle with problems that to me is like "why haven't you learned this in 1st year?" because they've had a different curriculum than me.
Why can't we have both, old and new? as i've learned, everybody learns different ways. it is not like 'One size fits all'
@@kasalibang7206 Of course in a utopia world, it would be best if each person was educated according to what they'd need. But it's not logistically feasible. Even you yourself won't know for certain what kind of job you'll end up doing in 5-10 years time, and what kind of knowledge you'd need accordingly. So the education system is set up to teach everyone the knowledge that you'll statistically most likely need in the future.
Furthermore, schools and unis don't just have obligations to the students. One of their functions and duties is to grade and evaluate the students, so that employers (and society in general) can base on that to assign the jobs most fitted to individuals. That's why we have exams, GPAs, degrees, and why teachers require you to have certain knowledge to pass the classes/curriculums.

The other day I was discussing with my fiance the same topic, I was arguing the same that we can not block water, we have to learn how to flow with it. I resonate with your thinking professor.
Its a complex decision. I used Autocorrect on my phone. Within a year I felt that I had a dependency on it for basic spellings. It was a mess. Same goes for calcuators. These things like spellings and calculations when done manually develop brain and cognitive functioning. If a kid develops a dependency on thechnology early, its will lead to an unfit brain development. However it depends on the curriculum schools will make in order to have a overall cognitive development. In such case whole curriculum may need to be changed. It can be a better thing or maybe not.
I agree. AI is no doubt an extremely powerful technology that can create benefits and opportunities, but I think we should also take a step back and think about its implications it’ll have in the long term. Like you said, over dependency on technology can lead to degrades in skills. There’s a reason why especially in college, it is recommended to take notes by hand instead of typing, and understand how to apply formulas in different situations and work in variables rather than plugging everything in to a calculator. I fear over reliant on such technology can hinder future generations on things like writing, critical thinking, and creativity. Currently it feels like the technology is developing at a pace faster than institutions and regulations can keep up. Sorry for such a long rant on a UA-cam comment because its a really deep topic😅
I hate school with the soul, flesh, and bone as a person who achived a diploma. But I don't deny I had the most applicable knowledge during High School. The fact they are centered around outdated molasses paced inconsistently contradicting fossilized lawmaker decisions making Curriculum is where I point my finger on all of our problem.
After going to university, I slightly agree. Understanding the math, reasoning behind it, and what it does is important. Once you know that, use a calculator. There is no legitimate reason to ever do a complex calculation for a project by hand. The most important thing you learn in university isn't any specific subject. It's learning how to find and learn any information you want.

Because if we treat AI as a replacer for the mind and body, it will result in negative consequences. People who develop AI need to take into account that AI should only facilitate things which we should be able to do without it, just in a larger scale of time.
Even if you want to use the AI in its full potential, you need to learn the basics and because of that you need to study. Let’s say you have a quantum computer but you don’t know how to use it, so what’s the point of having it. On the other hand a quantum computer is a blessing to a scientist, so to be a scientist you must study basics, get deeper and then you can use AI to solve problems.
In future people will use AI to solve problems but there is a catch, you have to be better at something to use prompt, get the right answers and then tweak it further to use it at your own advantage. What will happen is if we needed 10 person to do a single job, now we will be able to do the same job with 2-3 person, with the help of AI. People are gonna loose job and it’s inevitable, it’s like survival of the fittest.

This is definitely useful for kids and there future and for people who are disabled, me being shot from my neck down really has took a toll on me asking people to help me, or even being took advantage of being in the wheelchair by over charging someone in my condition more than it cost for assistance or digital aspects of marketing books, music or scripts, i definitely appreciate it alot

Not really... LOL they'll attempt to try and find every way possible to only use it minimally and try to punish people for using AI, this is how it's been since the education system began and already some schools have banned it's use while they "figure it out", never ever let them figure anything out lol because they should accept how the world changes and actually see things for how much more easy it can make things for us AND for them, so far they purposely run on making things very difficult and confusing for people.
I completely let go of it all because of how restricted we are just because they want money. It's just not acceptable and more and more parents are opting for home schooling it's gotten SO bad to the point there's no point even being there, if they do this even with AI and try to keep things the same then lawsuits need to start flying, most of us don't even know the basics of mathematics these days and at least with AI they can actually track why they aren't using it to the fullest potential to help people learn and why there are still far too many varied results in who does well and doesn't.

As a Computer Science student, our department allows use to use ChatGPT for schoolwork. But they boldly highlight the ethical usage of AI, and being able to use AI as a stepping stool and not a "spoon feeding" tool. In my opinion, I think that as someone who is not studying computer science or anything related to CS or IT, being able to understand how the AI works, and also knowing the concepts learned in this video will greatly help you survive in the era of AI.
Major shoutout to my college department for promoting these tools instead of being a karen about it.
Im from Germany and right now I am in the last stage of my 5 year journey to become a teacher in elementary school. Its rediculous that i have to hold on to a curriculum that was updated in 2014. Approximately next year around this time I will write an essay based on this, so that the people of the government that are watching my teaching sample will be proud of me lol. Its insane how they teach teachers to not teach creativity. I doubt germany is the only country which cant adapt fast enough. I remember that my grandparents couldnt handle the internet and smartphones. Lately my parents were unsatisfied with the development in TikTok/ social media and the risks that change the society right now. I hope that I can be a better person, even knowing that AI is hard to handle....We need to try to go with the flow like Dr. Li Jiang said and teach our children that there is no need to be afraid ♥ (even if its human to be afraid).

Indeed AI will steal a lit of jobs and for the better. It will also create a lot and free people form most of the toxicity of the current system. We’ll have more time to enjoy our lives freely but mostly, we’ll have time to do more research and evolve way faster! All redondant and repetitive tasks will be taken care of by machines so it’s kind of a win-win situation for us.

That is the tricky part. When children learning basic knowledge, it is also a process that they develop their way of thinking skills especially critical thinking skills. If children use AI in early stage, they might relay on it for its convenience and start to lose their own ability of deep thinking. That is my experience with chat gpt, when I ask some questions and it give me some answers that actually different from my beliefs or from my value. However children are in the stage they don’t have those strong opinions of their values and beliefs yet. So how to make sure young generations are not going to be brain washed by AI and their designers and loose critical thinking abilities?

The problem with competition is that whereas its original meaning was to strive together, the more current one is to beat the other person(s) to the finish line and win the prize by whatever means. The fact is that information-based technologies have their limits when it comes to resolving the many challenges to humanity, with most subconsciously created by us human beings. Sadly, the narratives now needed for our species' sustainability are so far outside any of our current technologies or hand-me-down belief systems that they might as well not exist at all.

Creativity cannot be taught in a classroom because those who seek answers are looking for hard definitions. To be creative is to be free from the standard rules and practices. By definition there is a finite amount of people that can be creative before a creative way of teaching becomes standard.
The best way to become creative is to question everything, disregard most hard and fast rules, and be willing to accept judgment. Just know that deviating from what most people consider normal comes at a cost.
I'd say StableDiffusion is pretty darn creative. At the moment, it looks like AI is doing badly on numbers and truthfulness, so ironically the "boring" STEM and handiwork jobs are going to be spared at first, unlike creative jobs.

I have a webdevelopment degree, bachelor in ux and now following a masters in data driven design. Learn to embrace ai as a tool not a replacement for skill. Its about learning to solve new type of problems, and let ai solve the old ones. Chat gpt is a good example. When solving a problem with searching on google you search for context. Through langue models like chat gpt context comes to you systemically, learn the difference and you will be future proof.
To a point. Once a true general AI arrives and matures then basically everyone is out of a job.

The problem is that AI is a wonderful tool for individuals who have money and can invest in new products. The income factor will create AI social classes based on capital, education, and access to AI tools. In the Age of Capitalism, many will be relegated to living in the lower classes. Stanford has a distorted income group that can benefit from a $ 100,000-year college costs.
I‘m a bit more reticent with AI perhaps motivated by fear idk. My issue is if I get used to using ChatGPT and relying on it, if it was taken away from me I would be handicapped which is an extra layer of fragility.
You would learn to live without it. Just like if I took your computer, phone, and internet away from you. Some people live without it, some people need it. But they are such powerful and useful tools it would be upsetting to see you live in the 1930's.

Everything he said is right, but what I find myself asking more these days is: will there be enough jobs for every human? Should we start thinking about ways to guarantee everyone a decent life? (I think we should've long ago, but with AI the matter is even more impending).
So long as we have finite resources in comparison to our wants/needs, there will always be jobs.
Look at the industrial revolution. 1 person could do the work of 50 but there are still plenty of jobs around.
This is a brilliant perspective. There's a lot of negativity surrounding AI right now, especially with AI art because of how the raw data was gathered without permission. The AI itself is not the problem here, but rather how the humans behind it made certain choices. Now they are charging money for subscriptions to use these AI art tools and making lots of money from what was essentially free labour without consent. If they had only used images for training the AI that they had permission to use, and/or they offered the AI art tools for free without paid subscriptions, there wouldn't be the same negative backlash. Now we have a lot of people angry and they want to opt out of using AI because of how the tool was developed. These companies are already facing lawsuits and that could have been avoided. We can point out that AI is inevitable and we have to embrace it, yes, but also as Dr Jiang points out, we have to use our human empathy to solve problems or we won't get effective solutions.
At the moment I think regulations just haven’t caught up to the pace the technology is advancing. AI is here to stay, and eventually almost everyone will have to use it, I won’t deny that. But at the current state, it feels like it’s built upon unethical practices and who can profit the most out the the entire AI race while trampling on the hard work of millions of others with no regards. I’m just hoping that regulations will eventually catch up, like with most major technologies, so that it is built on an ethical foundation and safeguard against malicious intents

The line in the sand is simple: if life for the majority becomes harder with AI, the majority needs to overthr0w the system. We should not let the wealth and power concentrate further into the hands of a smaller group.
In an oppressive system, yes. But in an open market, nobody is preventing access to these knowledge and tools. In an open market, you either spend your time improving or spend your time complaining and get left behind. Left behind not only by the "rich and powerful", but by your neighbours, your neighbouring cities and your neighbouring countries.
