No band really in same category. Seen them 12 time s .... 1979-1985. Totally acoustic. Without, with Out a keyboard 🎹,,, from the ancient to the future. Their mantra. Did not come from bebop ,,, or miles... Mmmultiple Reed capacity,,,, !!!!!un extreme understatement... I could listen to them forever
Really one of the best bands out there. I saw them at the Chicago Jazz Festival in 2019 and they just brought the house down. Easily my favorite concert ever. Thank you for the upload.
Yes this is beyond cool and all that. I saw them 3 nights in a row in my youth - not the experience it would be possible to forget. Today Im so glad I stumbled upon them and to some degree can understand and feel them. Gives me great joy hearing this.
That's a gem, this jam. WOW! Thank you very much for posting! I love it! It's so good to see them after all these years! This is not just a gig; it's a performance!
i saw these cats with Cecil Fucking Taylor at Michigan State University in the early 90's.. it was BY FAR the most intense concert i've ever seen! it was just like this but they had tons and tons of children's instruments, like 30 or so gongs, drums, noise makers and a huge rack of cow bells. They all played the various percussion instruments and gongs except Lester Bowie who would sit in this chair in his doctor's coat grinning and every so often he'd just beat the shit out of this huge bass drum. i clearly remember this huge black woman with a gold wig just sitting there in the audience, rocking back in forth, screaming, during a very intense solo by Cecil F'n Taylor and Roscoe Mitchell
Ha ha great story, thanks man. Cecil Taylor with Art ensemble..feel like I could off a pinkie to see that. Or maybe not...but I saw AOC 3 nights in a row in the 80s and I can tell now the influence on my swirly head have been profund.
