Love the guide, think the general example you've picked is a good way for people like me to see how theory gets executed. Also, love the way you build up towards spesific items by first talking about your objectives and playstyle rather than the typical other way. Also, thanks for not spending 10 minutes going through what his skills do.

70% win rate on slardar over 200 games. My thoughts: I almost always buy treads over phase boots unless I really need the armor. I always buy an additional gloves of haste after treads and wand. The extra attack speed for getting your bash off is massive. After this I almost always rush an Ags usually by buying ogre axe then blade of alacrity. I usually buy bkb after ags and then blink unless I’m against a sniper or a puck in which case I’ll get blink before bkb. Favorite supports to pair with are grimstroke, ogre, treeant and ogre/lion. Worst matchups are vs troll and pa because the evasion griefs the bash.
Is echo sabre really that bad, i mean it increases kill potential and makes u more of a threat on the map, gives mana regen & attack speed, feels like it has more value than drums in the mid-> late game (once ur out of charges)
Man, I love this guide! I've been trying to make slardar work for so long - and this has helped me understand so many of the concepts as to why I felt like I never had enough impact. I've been playing it either too unselfishly (aoe items) or too selfish as a carry and farming
I really think if Dota had more guides like these the game would be hella more approachable and pleasant to play on all levels, Dota needs content like this to keep breathing
Hey BSJ! Love the content! Trying to cover all areas tho! You said what you would buy against a melee lane, or vs a lane where you're not afraid to run at them. But what if they're ranged and you are afraid to run after them? Lots of sustain, armor and movmentspeed? Cheers~
Awesome guide man. Looking forward to another guide. Quick question: taking opponent tier 1-2 towers are important, but what to do after that ? Warding opponent jungle- more map control- taking rosh ? What is the key thing to do after taking down their tower? Newb question. Tks
Once u take their t2, take their outpost and ward their jungle. Then never touch ur jungle jus farm their jungle and push the waves. Later secure kill rossh and seige hg. Ez game
Absolute, brilliant offlane guide on Slardar, seeing I play offlane and love picking him! Haha, I have been going Echo Saber all this time. I'll be looking for Aghs, blink, AC from now on. Drums if I am feeling a little rough around the edges and perhaps Midas, if feeling comfortable before going Aghs blink. Only thing about Midas is, it does nothing for sustain and like you said it need to be a very comfortable game to do this.
Great guide. So in depth and detailed. Thank you for talking about echo Sabre 👍🏼 Also.... what is the background piano music at the end of all your videos? Does it have a name?
I learned Slardar doesn't get right clicked the hardway when I bought a blademail because of DK stunning me for 10 years, all it did was keep them from hitting me while I was stunned and instead focusing on my teammates which isn't exactly ideal lol
Echo on Slardar is really tempting tho, like really really really tempting. Like, the double hit, mana regen, and stats. But the thing which makes me agree about questioning echo is the timing. Slardar has slow farming speed altho not bad attack speed thanks to treads, but yeah the farming still kinda slow. I just think that making echo just delaying his dagger timing really really lot. Maybe another bracer for stats if needed or drums then dagger is much better.
The information you give us is priceless man really thank you a lot. My main position is offlane and with your advice I managed to become a better player. BSJ ftw!!
Please keep posting offlane guides. As one of the most misunderstood roles in the game, I think your insight is helping to bring it into focus for many people.
Slardar wr combo for pos3,4 is broken rn. Slardar amp and wr's ff deletes anyone mid game. Plus shackle and slardar's kit as a whole makes the laning part very ez
Although I agree with most of the tips, I disagree on the echo sabre rant. The thing is that most of the dota guides online are done by very good high mmr players that play in games where there is A LOT of team effort. Like A LOT. At low mmr, people don't know about timing, they dont call shots, they dont help you or gang up. So strats that apply at high mmr not necessarily apply at low. Echo sabre is a perfect exemple on slardar. It is a little bit less expensive than vlads, it slows on bash, double hit every so often which boost your bash potential AND gives mana regen which slardar desperatly need. I can't count how many times I killed a target due to the double attack from echo sabre before he escape me. Vlads keeps me alive but doesn't help me kill at all. And like you said, I'm not suppose to be the one killing (or doing the damage) but at crusader-archon rank and below you have to sometime, cuz no one comes for help. You can always trade it later for something more team oriented.
Ammar seems to always build mask of madness on slardar so he can farm more (especially ancient) before buying blink and i find in my case i can dominate the laning stage but when the carry hide deep inside his jungle then i can't pressure him because his team will just tele and arrive before we can and i start losing networth compare to their pos1 because i can't farm without mom
I was spamming slardar a few patches ago cuz that’s what I felt comfortable on since then I’ve switched to mainly mars but now it seems like ima have to pick slardar back up :)
What about echo sabre instead of midas for the games where you are doing good? More stats, sustain and helps farm jungle camps faster and also helps you burst people.
Mjolnir for farming? In that case midas is better. Mjolnir for dealing damage to enemy heroes? BSJ already explained why it's not Slardar's job to deal damage.

bsj, how about stacking moonshards to get below a 0.3 attack time (permalock)? you ever tested that build? at around 2 moonshards you can just permalock anyone
do you think echo into silveredge or orchid/bkb (depends on the game) viable for slardar? I mean echo is not really a complete damage item. double hit is a free hit for your bash with an extra control before the bash. it gives you some mana reg which is nice especially since you got mana in sprint. and it gives some health as well. treads into blink into echo sounds good for quick pickups
lol free hit for bash.. someone’s confused. Last time I checked and tried that, it never worked. It doesn’t count it. I believe this applies to certain other things too.
@@matthewshan1031 if you let it hit twice(instead of canceling the attack with the first hit) it counts for 2. I just tested to be sure if I remember wrong or not
I disagree. There is no threat of supports if you completely master slardar(or any other 1-2 heroes). Also i disagree that you shouldn't build echo sabre because in low mmr games in most games your carry and mider toxic ruiners. Without echo you can't even solo pick off support.
Exactly. High mmr player build guides that fits high mmr playstyle where team synergy is a big thing. At low mmr, echo sabre is a very good choice to enable slardar. If you can pick 1-2 support each fight, that's all you need to do. With blink + echo, slardar is terrifying for almost any support. Even if they are super close to a carry, you just kill them so fast with this when lvl 6 and on
What about if the team Needs a break item, like silver edge. Slardar is not a bad hero to build it, if the hc/mid cannot. Usually, against specter/bb. If I don’t have anyone to break their passives, I build it.
I don't think you really need to make radiance on slardar to deal with PL. Your goal should be at max try to delay those heroes's diffusal timings. If there's absolutely no one in your team to deal with illusions, maybe you can consider it. But I don't think good on Slardar, since like BSJ said you don't want people to hit you. You wanna burst them down before they get a chance to hit you. Also the build up of radiance is not really nice for slardar ( if it was a brewmaster, or Omni or abandon, radiance is great since you want enemies to hit you).
Minus armor doesn't counter armor is what i always said to people when i was at 2k mmr. If you do the math . Minus armor works best when the oppent have less than 15 or 10 armor.
