Kevin Young has been on the job 8 weeks, with the first two of those weeks part-time as he was still coaching the Suns in the playoffs (ok, that's didn't go so well, but thankfully it meant Coach was able to get to BYU full-time quicker). What Coach Young has accomplished in just a few weeks is crazy. Just remarkable. He put together a great coaching staff, retained a core of really good players (several of whom had entered the transfer portal) and then went and recruited a couple terrific transfers and also grabbed BYU's greatest freshmen recruiting class ever. All in eight weeks. From scratch. With Coach Pope at Kentucky trying to gut the roster. On April 12, we BYU fans were feeling pretty low. We had just gone through a very successful first year in the Big12, and had a great core of players returning for '24-'25. Then, out of nowhere, a chain of events happen that lands Pope at Kentucky. Disaster. We all knew we'd be taking a big step back and have to rebuild while navigating our way through the Big12. Awful situation. And then Kevin Young happened. And now we sit just 8 weeks later with a great roster, a great coaching staff, and an unreal level of excitement around the program. The Marriott Center has always been a great venue, but we might have trouble keeping the roof on the place this coming season.
Your right and I’m happy for BYU and as a Kentucky fan I would have loved Richie but at the same time Coach Pope really only went after him and Jaxson and he got Jaxson a guy who had offers from Kansas and probably would have been a second round draft pick not only that he got Jaxson after he didn’t start him most the year to come to a team who has let’s be honest more talent than the BYU team did last year so for BYU best player to follow him says a lot especially after not starting him almost all year and idk what you heard but outside of Richie you could argue he went after Khalifa but he never went on a visit and he didn’t call Noah who I really like, I’m not dogging Cal and BYU fans shouldn’t dog Mark Pope I’m happy for BYU fans but he’s right if Pope was still there he would have started to bring on better talent with NIL and the big 12 change recruiting to the big 12 is way different than the WAAC, also Coach didn’t call Hall he was never going to get an offer just be happy for your coach and your program don’t worry about your old coach I mean Kentucky fans are most definitely now thinking about BYU , you guys should look at your team and future instead of talking about your past and I say the same thing to dumb Kentucky fans who talk smack about Cal, I hope you beat Kansas every time you guys play
@@johnnystivers6788In hind sight, it was a win-win for BYU and Pope to have things play out the way they have thus far. Happy for Pope. Be fun to see a matchup between BYU and UK in the Final Four in the near future. Here's to hoping anyway.
Remember that Tim Fanning was Kanon's coach at Overtime Elite. Kevin Young added Fanning as an assistant coach, and at that point, Kanon asks out of his NLI and is allowed to re-open his commitment. Knowing his history with Coach Fanning, and the timing of this story, it's not a big surprise he landed at BYU
Lets go BYU!!

Mark Pope was the talk of Provo for two weeks in April and pretty much an afterthought since then.
Mark who?

byu looking scary
This guy looks like he should be doing a hunting podcast…definitely not a show about basketball! Well done 👍🏽
I think BYU will be a great success this season
@soundmoon: many BYU fans are still following Mark Pope. The better Pope does, the better BYU appears. 😉
The first part of his name is pronounced "Kay"!
Brooks Bahr is in this class, but he wont be on the team for 2 years.
