Still remember when Albany Mall opened in 76 with that jingle on tv "76 great stores in the Albany Mall" and me and my sisters and friends walked to it. Neat to see charlie finally driving thru one of my towns.
There are a lot more neighborhoods in the surrounding areas of Albany. People here are trying to live and enjoy life just like the rest of the world. l should know lm part of this community nearby

Albany, sure. Not Columbus though. It's the third largest city in GA after ATL and Augusta. Almost 200,000 people live in Columbus, and it's connected to an Interstate (I-185) Fort Benning is one of the larger Military bases in the country too. Columbus isn't rural. I will say even though Columbus is 3rd largest and Macon and Savannah are 4th and 5th, they feel more "urban"

I’ve lived here all my life. Though I don’t live in the “ghetto” in Albany. I did a bunch of construction work and house maintenance in “hoods”. Family’s here are more willing to cook you dinner then wealthy white families. I filled a little girls bike tire with air and within a week she got shot in a drive by shooting. Sometimes you can’t believe it and other times you aren’t surprised. Love and hate this place.

There were places in Albany that if you lived there you were banned from donating blood because of the rate of hepatitis and AIDS was so high. I lived there in mid 2000s and everything east of slappy blvd ran on food stamps and crack. Everyone ate at various churches and the Mission and homeless shelters and Salvation Army and sold thier SSI Check and food stamps for crack. I heard from a female prostitute who was my neighbor that now it's also methamphetamine and all the males are gay now. ALL the males I knew then at least-- and a lot of people I knew were murdered. Wonderful place.

I had good memories there
I’ve lived here all my life. Though I don’t live in the “ghetto” in Albany. I did a bunch of construction work and house maintenance in “hoods”. Family’s here are more willing to cook you dinner then wealthy white families. I filled a little girls bike tire with air and within a week she got shot in a drive by shooting. Sometimes you can’t believe it and other times you aren’t surprised. Love and hate this place.

There were places in Albany that if you lived there you were banned from donating blood because of the rate of hepatitis and AIDS was so high. I lived there in mid 2000s and everything east of slappy blvd ran on food stamps and crack. Everyone ate at various churches and the Mission and homeless shelters and Salvation Army and sold thier SSI Check and food stamps for crack. I heard from a female prostitute who was my neighbor that now it's also methamphetamine and all the males are gay now. ALL the males I knew then at least-- and a lot of people I knew were murdered.
