Great content! I have these on my 06 Silverado and they make the truck look more rugged and higher (which I love), and they have plenty of grip as you mentioned... Very happy with these tires! And road noise isn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's a lot quieter than most.
Excellent, informative Video Mike. I recently R&R'D my second set of tires (Firestone Destination AT 265/70R16) on my 2013 Gen II Tacoma SR5 2WD. I installed Ultra Terrain 265/70R16's from Discount Tire. D.T. compared with Firestone is literally, night and day, D.T. being a well run, professional organization compared to Firestone's "farm team" attitude and customer support. I live in N. TX and it only snows occasionally but ice, mud, gravel and torrential rains (when it does rain) are plentiful. The previous Firestone Destinations were an OK compromise On/Off road tire with average road noise and ride but poor rain hydroplaning, sketchy on ice and I got stuck twice in my own yard hauling landscaping supplies. They did last 50K but the warranty support was so poor I ended up plugging my own punctures and rotated them myself. The Destination AT's averaged 20.8 MPG between City and 75-80 MPH Interstate commute. In comparison the Ultraterrain AT's win the cool points/Bad-A$$ competition hands down. Performance exceeds the Firestone AT's in every category except mileage which surprisingly despite the more aggressive tread I only lost 0.5 MPG overall. I recently drove a 1000 mile trip and with cruise control on at 75MPH I carefully filled and mileage confirmed Three full tanks averaging 20.3 MPG. Overall after 10K miles I still like the Ultraterrain's and would recommend them to any Tacoma (or otherwise) owner, especially if you have 4WD. Great product and awesome support from Discount Tire. RR
Great tires I have set of these on my Cherokee I give them hell every weekend offroad so far they take the punish very well I couple of gashes on every tire but still griping hard mud, rocks, gravel. I air down to 15 psi and drive offroad safely. Had them for about 6 month great on the hwy I have about 20k miles on them still tons of tread on them I would buy them again.
Thanks, I was trying to decide between the same two tires( Goodrich ko's and Goodyear wrangler ultra terrain AT's) in 265/75r16. Liked the looks of the Goodyear's much better for the same reasons you gave.
Thanks for the tire review... BTW nice vehicles. I'm quoting a new set up for my truck and this tires check all my needs. This video helps me make a decision.
I'm getting mine put on Saturday morning on my 2009 Chevrolet Colorado LT Extended Cab 4wd. I was debating on the ultraterrain and the general grabber atx so I decided to get the ultraterrain's. I will post my impressions after a month or two. Thanx for the review on these
I agree I put those on my 08 Toyota Tundra very smooth ride. Love the aggressive look. The Tundra looks bring it. The Meguire wet look makes them look awesome.
If you drive a pick-up truck in winter weather and have good A/T tires you will rarely need to run around in 4x4 if you will simply put weight in the back end. I recommend getting tube sand from Home Depot or similar hardware store...very inexpensive. Depending on your truck (smaller Tacoma size or larger 2500/3500) would recommend at least 500-800 lbs.
I'm fairly sold just off this video. Very impressed. 2nd video of yours I've stumbled upon while looking for ideas on modding my 17 tacoma sr5. Have the same wheels someone else's take-offs. Love them. Wanting to lift/level yet keep the stock wheels, go bigger/beefier ATs. Definitely have these ultra terrains high in mind now thank you for the detailed review on them
This tire was recommended to me from discount tire today. I got a quote for these and the BFG A/T KO2 This tire is 10$ cheaper. Only a couple of my a/t tire buddy’s have recommended this over the bfg. So far, I am leaning this way
Thank you for great video. Are these more quiet than the Ko2’s? Also. Which one do you prefer now that you have used the ultra terrain and the duratrac.
I just bought these in 285/70/17. Looks great. But the side wall lugs make it look shorter. 0 miles so I cant give a good review. But as far as road noise if yall are concerned. I I went from al season to these on a 2500 gmc. The road noise is zero compared to the old basically highway tread. They felt great big improvement on handling.
Great info! Question - How are these in the rain? I currently have KO2s (315/70r17) on my F150. They weren’t great in the snow or rain, but have since added Eaton Truetrac…sorry got off topic lol. I am trying to decide between the Goodyear Ultraterrain AT and Falken Wildpeak AT3W? What is you recommendation between the two?
I got a silverado with the 6.2 and break loose all the time with these tires. I'm gonna get a set of slightly wider and taller tires with more siphoning.
Currently looking at these tires or some Ridge Grapplers. What should I go for guys? The size I want for either tire is a big price difference. GY is $960 for the set. RG are $1250. What should I go for guys?
Hey mike just an update on my Goodyear wrangler ultraterrain AT. They worn down 2/32 within 2months at just over 4k miles when they was at 18/32 brand new. They are getting a little noise but not to loud. I may get em again but overall they look good on my truck. Getting them rotated on Tuesday. I'm really impressed with them so far.
How is wet performance?I have viva 3 on a car and going around a wide curve om the highway id be sliding off the road and couldnt even go the speed limit. Afraid gy uses the same compound and they may be bad in the wet. Whats ypur experience
@@bengleckl1877 They are okay on dry and wet roads I think they perform better in sand and mud. I think I'm going to go with the new toyo open country at3s next when it's time to get new rubbers and try something new. I've tried the kumho road adventure ats but they didn't last more then a year. If you are wanting to get the goodyear ultraterrain and want to save on a little gas get the lightest tire. The ones I have on now weigh 51ibs each load range e compared to SL at 40 ibs each I think. The toyos weigh 41ibs each SL.
I put these on my 2017 f150 went from duratracs to these and I like these ultra terrain better so far seems like they grip better on ice and light snow compared to the duratracs.
Do you still like them? Discount was touting them although if course they're an exclusive item im just torn to believe the sales guys I feel like they make a bigger commission
I am not sure why but I have these on my 16 Silverado and they screech a lot when turning and when it’s wet sometimes will hydro plane. Not sure if I should keep them or not.
Is your TRD Off Road lifted? I have a stock TRD Off Road 4WD and want to put 265 75 R16 on them (compared to factory size 265 70 R16) but I was worried the larger size tire may rub on the wheel well. Can you comment on that?
Did you get E rated or Standard? I have 275/60r20 set of the wrangler ultra terrains on my lifted 4runner. I love them. So you have decided you like these better than bfgoodrich ko2s? Nice!
Did you have any trouble with balancing and vibrations? I’ve compared these with the falken and bf goodrich but there are a lot of reviews about falken having quality and balancing issues.
I had major issues with my Falkens. Every single was very out of round. Falken corporate was a joke and told me tough luck. Bought more out of pocket to replace the worst ones. Also out of round. Falken is junk and they wont stand behind their products.
Hello there... Since this is an older video. I'm sure you've logged in some miles on those tires now. I'm looking to get them tomorrow and just wanted to see if you're still satisfied with them. I'm getting the same size for my 20 TRD OR. Opinions on driving in snow? Good, ok, bad? Thanks in advance!
I couldn't care less about looking tough, I want a tire that has good traction in snow so I don't get stuck easily. Next is weight as heavy tires will decrease your fuel mileage. These weigh only a few more lbs than factory tires. That's why I am interested in them.
Isn't this a discount tire exclusive item? I get nervous when an item is exclusive, I feel like they're only made to be extra profitable. Did you think about that when making your purchase?
It is exclusive to Discount Tire. My only concern was whether it was their best product if they only sold it at one location but I have been 100% impessed with it. I have Duratracs as well and the Ultraterrain is much better in my opinion.
Are you still running these tires ? How are they holding up ? I'm looking to change my stock Dunlops to an AT.. I was looking at Duratrac and the toyo at3 and I'm from the pnw... What do you recommend ?
How are these in the rain? I had goodyear viva 3 on a car and they were the worst tire in the wet I evwr had. Couldnt even go speed limit when wet out ..gave an 1500 miles and still were not safe. Are these good in the rain? Im worried all goodyears have the same compound and therefore id have bad wet pergormance
Goodyear ultraterrain are better than ko2. I had ko2s and every time I went offroad would come back with missing chunks of rubber I heated because there not cheap. I hit the same trails with my ultraterrains and they hold up much better than ko2s

Very little difference from stock - just a tad louder.

How different are they compared to the Duratracs? Cheers

E load
Yeah, the look, the look, the look. That's what I LOOK for in tires.
How’s the noise with these when on the highway?
Was your Tacoma lifted in this video?
How have they worn and still handling?
Whats the tread warranty?

How’s sound on road driving?
