Gwen Stefani, Nelly Furtado, and Fergie are the women, alongside Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, P!nk, Jennifer Lopez, Avril Lavigne, Ashanti, and Beyoncé, that I think of when I think of women in music that defined the 2000s decade. Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift, and Katy Perry don’t count because they debuted in the industry towards the end of the decade so I firmly put them as 2010s music artists. Even Rihanna who technically did release 4 albums between 2005-2009, didn’t become a global superstar until her fifth album, Loud, released in 2010. Her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, (2007), made her a superstar, but it was no where near the level of Beyoncé during the 2000s, and it wasn’t until the release of Loud, that Rihanna was starting to become recognized as a true force to be reckoned with. Younger people who didn’t come up in the 2000s tend to overstate the importance of Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga during this time. These women were all newbies just getting their feet wet in the industry. The reason why Kanye West infamously interrupted Swift during her acceptance speech for Best Female Pop Video at the 2009 VMAs, was because she was still relatively unknown at the time and he felt Beyoncé, (the better known, more popular female at the time with the better video), was more deserving. And as far as Lady Gaga, did she have a huge breakthrough year in 2009, yes absolutely but what’s one year at the end of the decade compared to someone like Britney Spears who dominated most of the decade, especially the first half. I’m glad this video is highlighting the pop cultural impact of Gwen, Nelly F., and Fergie. Their albums definitely shaped and influenced the sound for the later artists that followed.

Good work! Interestingly enough, what became LAMB originally belonged to Kelis. The tracks were selections for her follow up to Tasty, but she fell out with The Neptunes and they systematically tried to blackball her; snatching the tracks and giving them to Gwen. The core of their dispute was money and Kelis (alleging) being taken advantage of via a shady contract agreement.
@@Kevin-rg3yc Yeah! It’s super interesting, right?! That’s also why she had such an adverse reaction to being sampled on Renaissance. Because of said contract, Bey’s camp didn’t have to involve her. They went directly to the folks that they were contractually obligated to. 💁🏾♂️
@DooleyDoesFood What the heck u're talking about? Where's your source? LAMB was created even when Gwen was still in No Doubt around 2000-2003. Don't spread lies and diminish Gwen Stefani's creativity. She even won the Visionary Award for LAMB.

Oh YES, the mid-2000s holy trinity. I want more videos dedicated to them. You guys don't understand the HOLD The Dutchess and Loose had on me. And Hollaback Girl, Rich Girl, Bubble Pop Electric, Harajuku Girls, Serious, Crash, Yummy, Now That You Got It and plenty other songs from Gwen? Unforgettable, iconic, hard to top. For me Loose is still one of the best albums of all time. But so is The Dutchess, even if that album didn't get the stellar reviews Loose did. But it was SO Fergie, so personal, and so unique, that I absolutely love it. And the BEEF Fergie and Nelly had? It was amazing. And also Gwen and Fergie had some rivalry according to fans (which that never happened btw). The best.
I was into hip hop then and find out about all of them through a hip hop song. I'm glad because it lead me to embrace other music. They are fantastic women.
I grow up on No Doubt music and then Gwen was my huge idol in my highschool/young adult years. I got the Sweet Escape CD as a first gift from my then boyfriend and even owned Gwen´s doll. Because of her I tried to experiment with my clothing style and made some of my own clothes. I still love songs from LAMB and Sweet Escape to this day.
I was just thinking of this era a lot recently. Such a cool time for music, we truly did have a bit of everything back then compared to now. I'm missing the 00s more every day! 🥺
Made me happy watching you discuss the music history of a decade where I fell in love with music for the first time, amd Gwen was the very first female singer I ever heard from the 2000s especially with the song from No doubt "Hey Baby" in 2001 and then their cover of "Its My Life" in 2003, then her solo album dropped with the song "Hollaback Girl" in 2004/5 and "Luxurious" before The Sweet Escape Era where "Cool" dropped in 2005 before the rest of the songs and Album into 2006. Then I heard Fergie and Nelly around the exact same time in 2006 and 2007, and then when 2008 I was sad I didnt hear from them all anymore, especially Gwen, these songs and albums to me will remain their best
Fergie’s album is underrated. All 3 are really great, classic albums. I would say that Nelly’s best album is probably Folklore though - the songwriting and vocals are so good.
I feel like you really can't say that L.A.M.B was Gwen's "career defining" album, because that REALLY undermines just how huge she and No Doubt were on the alt/punk scene prior. Tragic Kingdom still has songs played on the alt stations (Spiderwebs and Sunday Morning to name a few). Like, it really was a colossal album that still holds up today.
the Dutches is one of my favorite pop albums ever! I Lowkey wish she didn't drop the follow up a few years ago because it just didn't hit the same. but an icon she is!
there's no denying that the mid-2000s offered some of THE BEST and most appreciated gems of the entire noughties - female artists of that time period had edge, distinctiveness and creative vision that would be later picked up on by artists like Gaga or Kesha (I'm thinking of Gwen's whimsicality that Gaga used to establish herself or Fergie's half-rapped, half-sung pop songs which style would, to an extent, work as a foundation to Kesha's, or should I say Ke$ha's, most recognizable tracks). Also in the mid-2000s two of the possibly biggest pop comebacks of history happened - Mariah's Emancipation and Madonna's Confessions!
2006 was a fun time. I had graduated from high school and started college. These ladies were the the BPGs of my day lol My introduction to Nelly Furtado was Timbaland's remix to Turn off the Light and her feature on Missy's Get Ur Freak On remix, so I always expected her to make an album like Loose. If anything made me go WTF it was Folklore
honest pleaseeeeeee do a video like this for the consecutive early 2000s debuts of Beyonce (2003), Ciara (2004), and Rihanna (2005). i think each of them had their own interpretation of r&b and distinct images that set each other apart from one another, but they also had many similarities being new black women making their way in the early 2000s pop space.
CIARA was a part of this group as well. From 2004-2007. The Goodies and Evolution albums were huge eras. Well, they were her only hit albums. LoL.HAHA 🤷🏾♂️😂
ciara, beyonce, pussycat dolls, kelly clarkson, and rihanna were probably the hugest pop girls outside these three in the video until blackout by britney and the fame by lady gaga changed the sound to that electro-pop sound that dominated the latter aughts.
She's considered more R&B, but she's definitely one of the most prominent R&B ladies from the 00s. I want a video like this but for the R&B ladies. And props to Ciara for getting more big hits after her prime, even if it didn't translate to every album

QUEENS OF 2000.. I can't get enough of her music's. Are forever
I love them all!!! Thanks for the awesome video 😎😎😎🦝👽
When Gwen Dropped The Music Video For Hollanack Girl She Had That Urban Cali Girl Look That Fergie And Nelly Furtado Were Trying To Copy Off Of
I was just thinking of this era a lot recently. Such a cool time for music, we truly did have a bit of everything back then compared to now. I'm missing the 00s more every day! 🥺
I don’t care they CARRIED!!! These new girls could never!
My era
I love this 3 Queens
I loved that they touched on RnB hits, it was done very well!
Maneater , Luxurious , Big girls dont cry 😭👌🏻♥️♥️ Loved them as a child now those were hits ❤
If he is just focusing on her solo work, he's still right though.
Ciara, Kelis, Keysha Cole and Faith Evans ❤ too
They fall more into the RnB category then pop.
I feel like Gwen Stefani's COOL is still her best song till this day and still overshadowed
the Dutches is one of my favorite pop albums ever! I Lowkey wish she didn't drop the follow up a few years ago because it just didn't hit the same. but an icon she is!
Ah, the 2000s, my teenage years. That decade produced some bops that still slap to this day.
I really miss era and just always hearing these songs wherever i went
Gwen Stefani is the GOAT. An incredibly diverse body of work.
I love these three queens! Especially Fergie Ferg! ♥️✨
It’s so mad to me how Americans are barely aware of ‘what you waiting for’ from Gwen, it was huge in Europe! Great video ❤️
2000's Queens
I love the 3 albums and they were soundtrack of my life back then
Cool...one of the best music thats ever been written. it so good and positive.
Gwen Stefani was my mother. She raised me right
Três das maiores empresárias na industria da música dos anos 2000 sem dúvidas!
Honeeeey. Too bad I was a kid when these songs came out cos I bet dancing to these songs at the club hit so different!
literally love all of these ladies. its my entire childhood right there. they're my favs
there's no denying that the mid-2000s offered some of THE BEST and most appreciated gems of the entire noughties - female artists of that time period had edge, distinctiveness and creative vision that would be later picked up on by artists like Gaga or Kesha (I'm thinking of Gwen's whimsicality that Gaga used to establish herself or Fergie's half-rapped, half-sung pop songs which style would, to an extent, work as a foundation to Kesha's, or should I say Ke$ha's, most recognizable tracks). Also in the mid-2000s two of the possibly biggest pop comebacks of history happened - Mariah's Emancipation and Madonna's Confessions!
I’m glad y2k came back, we need it so badly due to the pandemic wanting us to have fun again.
I don't remember Luxurious.. was that even promoted in Europe? maybe was single only in the US?
yes it was, i have the CD single haha
3 of the best main pop girl eras of all time
2006 was a fun time. I had graduated from high school and started college. These ladies were the the BPGs of my day lol
My introduction to Nelly Furtado was Timbaland's remix to Turn off the Light and her feature on Missy's Get Ur Freak On remix, so I always expected her to make an album like Loose. If anything made me go WTF it was Folklore
broooo that remix was so good!!
I think these ladies had some of the best singles in pop history.
honest pleaseeeeeee do a video like this for the consecutive early 2000s debuts of Beyonce (2003), Ciara (2004), and Rihanna (2005). i think each of them had their own interpretation of r&b and distinct images that set each other apart from one another, but they also had many similarities being new black women making their way in the early 2000s pop space.
No one talks about how Fergus the dutchess album was the original teenage dream and how loose by Nelly was the original sweetener
ooooooo
L.A.M.B is one of my favorite albums of all time holy shit
They still rule pop in my car.
I always hoped we'd remember them fondly.
Tbh pop will never be the same. The iconic status will never be reached
Nelly Furtado and Timbaland need to come back! Like, seriously.
Agree
Gotta admit Nelly released 4 bombshells that are still popular and fresh to this day and then just disappeared
I love Hollaback girl, rich girls and sweet escape til this day.
say it right is my favourite song of all time tbh
I wish this kind of music be back ❤
The Holy Trinity of POP Y2K!
I loved when they rock the world ❤
YESSSS!!!!!! That was my time, so many memories
2000s - 2010 ruled by Britney Spears, Beyonce and Rihanna
Honestly Gwen was leading the pack here- even though I like Nellys album the most
CIARA was a part of this group as well.
@Chill Bro I agree. But she crossed over very well during those 2 albums. She should definitely be mentioned more, at least. 🤷🏾♂️😩
Oh yeah, for sure! Cici is def my main girl
